- It's been 4 years since I opened up this channel and started covering Destiny. And with no more major changes coming to Destiny 1 (probably) and the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal a mere 3 days away, now's probably a good time to reflect on the past 4 years on youtube and 3 years of Destiny, starting from video number 1.
This is not so much a complete review of Destiny 1 over three years, but rather a retrospective of my experiences with Destiny and the channel.. I do talk about Destiny in the video though in a review style, but this isn't a video for someone who never played Destiny in the first place. Just objectively, D2 has way more content than everything released during the whole of D1, and has brought massive improvements over the board (meaningful ranked PvE, pinnacle weapons, the way seasons work, the current weapon system, the levelling system, overall encounter design, the more cohesive storylines, different farming loops like Menagerie, which is literally the best content across all of Destiny...) Maybe you are just tired of Destiny as a whole.

McKay Lee back then when iron banner came out when pulse rifles ruled the crucible with shotguns and snipers being all there i was jokingly trying to prove a point that if you do nothing for one game of iron banner win/lose you’ll get something better than the guy who is in first place next thing you know the game ends and what do you know
My GT pops up saying i got ghallarhorn which was my second one and i was blown away i was joking when i said all that after that one the guys who i was friends with kicked me blocked me and i never talked to him again :/ but hey destiny 1 was truly fun in the long run :)

Awesome video dude, and really great to get some insight on both the game and your channel + personal thoughts during each time period. I had much of the same feelings coming from a hardcore WoW raiding background; hoping for incredibly hard and longer raids. Although that wasn't what came, still incredibly happy with the game as an overall and looking forward to Destiny 2!

I don't usually hit the like button, because generally I will just be in RUclips zone surfing through different videos, maybe liking the occasional one, but your content always feels different. I got the last word as my first exotic from the crucible in year 1. In my opinion it was the best gun in the whole game at the time other than pre-nerfed vex.

Watching this video 2 years into Destiny 2. Man it's crazy! How much has changed at first it was bad and finally starting to ramp up to be good again about 4 weeks into Shadowkeep
Despite destiny's flaws, I still to this day believe it to be one of the most fun games to come out in recent memory. When it came out, I was really hoping for a halo meets borderlands type experience. I still think that would be the best aim for the series. As someone who hasn't played this game since the drought that followed the house of wolves launch, I truly enjoyed this video. I don't believe that I fully understand why this series seems to be so lacking in content. As the most expensive game to create of all time, the story should be epic and the universe vast. I have very high hopes for destiny 2. I'm going to buy it, but if it seems like an updated expansion or dlc, I'm probably going to be one of the many jumping on the message board to shit down bungie's windpipe. Keep doin you, datto. I just hope to God that this next game feels like an evolution.

My friends and I all appreciate the time you've spent making all of you videos. I only watch your content for PvE because I like your style, opinions, editing, humor, and especially learning. Being somebody who has VERY limited time to play all games, let alone Destiny, I'm not going to waste my time watching some who doesn't give good concise information and isn't honest. I don't normally share videos instead I'll just relay the information while we play but your quality is so good it makes it easier just to share. At this point my friends and family all watch your guides. Seriously though if anybody didn't subscribe after the blindfolded Croata kill smh. Keep up the hard work, I'm going to need those yellow background exotic guides for Destiny 2 among others for everything because I'm a filthy casual.

Destiny 2 at launch up to Curse of Osiris may have seemed bad but it was certainly better than Destiny at launch. Although it don’t seem so, it had improvements that vanilla destiny 1 didn’t have. Yeah they removed random rolls and it was more casual but since Destiny 2 is building off of D1 and along with Forsaken coming out in September, the game will be in a better spot.
Knute Johnson forsaken is bringing back random rolls , a complete overhaul to the weapon slots , weapon mods , gear and a whole bunch of stuff. 9 new supers. A lot of good stuff

Destiny has horrible reception and is not recommended by many people. However, this does not change the fact that it is my all time favorite game. The community is great, and I've made many friends through Destiny. Playing the raids with all my friends is never boring. Sure, the mechanics will be the same every run, but every little thing we do differently is something to enjoy. Playing 3 years of Destiny was a great experience for me, and I support this game and Destiny 2. This video is a fantastic representation of what most of the Destiny community has been through, both through its ups and downs. I'm looking forward to Destiny 2 and I highly recommend everyone to play it. Thank you, Datto, for a fantastic video and for being here with us for the past 4 years.

Destiny was labeled average yet there was such a huge community on the game still 2 years on, something very few games can claim

Gavin Zimmerman I only get flustered when remembering this change because all updates affect pve! thorn was a beast in pve, a totally viable choice. Now its junk, that resembles, more of a peashooter than a handcannon.
Meh that's just a Bungie problem, I'm just glad Thorn is nearly gone in pvp. It's still usable, just not super popular.
I always found very few instances where having an exotic primary in PVE was a better option than one in the secondary or heavy slot, especially back then when elemental legendary primaries were still a thing.
+radwyer86 you are 100% correct. IMO that is just a false narrative from pve players that resent the fact that they are not very good at pvp.
I have to admit that was a real eye opener. I never realised the struggles you have gone through to keep this channel working and it make me appreciate you, this channel, content and all of the work you put into it even more.

Man, coming back to this video after the D2/CoO launch is uh... pretty interesting, to say the least.
I've been here since almost the beginning. I have stayed and watched probably 80% of your content. My main reason is because of Destiny but my second reason - I enjoy the way you think. Your ability to condense several different angles and concepts into just a few and then make them palatable for me is excellent. And of all your videos - I enjoyed this one the very most. Right now I am processing a lot of stuff in my life - (job, family, new used car with bad transmission, money stuff, etc.) Hearing you explain how you processed this stuff and then studying you as you do self analysis was great for where I am at right now. So much so in fact that I thought to myself "Lord, what are you trying to tell me" Here are the messages I am getting which go well beyond a video game or a you tube channel. Lessons which at 48 I should know but still struggle with. 1 - Passion needs persistence and persistence needs passion. 2- Making a leap of faith does not always result in boom or bust so much as it leads to more decisions which are equally as important as the first leap. 3- Being afraid to try new things or take risks is the biggest killer of dreams but the second most killer is laziness. Great video, thanks for the reminders. BTW - if you do more like this I would watch them, maybe a separate channel? "Datto's Brain"

I thought the game was a disappointment because it had no story, the reason why it had no story, Bungie sacked Joe Staten. If they are rushing D2 were in deep!! They have had enough time and resources to complete the game (btw it should have been out last year) So D2 has to be good otherwise Bungie is in Deep .....

Well said. I wasn't around since year one. I scoffed at the game when it was released due to the reviews it got. Finally, my brother in law talked me in to getting it around Christmas of 2015. As much as I've tried to get into other games that looked good, I keep coming back to destiny. The guys in my clan are awesome. With out them, I wouldn't have had the great experiences I had over this last year and a half. If destiny did nothing more than introduce me to these guys, it would still have been a fantastic game. Datto, I appreciate all your work you put into creating content. You are the first one I watch when I need to figure out how to do a specific mission or when I'm wondering what weapons do the most damage to maximize my "combat effectiveness". Keep up the good work and I hope you're enjoying the new place!

Thank you datto for making amazing content for the last 4 years I've been watching. I watch a lot of RUclips, and your videos are by far the most thought out and well made. I watch every one of your videos, because I enjoy it. Even if I already know what xur is selling. Even if I already know how to get a certain exotic. I still watch them all. You always have such a good attitude and edit them so well, the info on screen about certain weapons and subclasses is very nice to have, it shows that you spend time on a lot of your videos. Congrats on 1k vids and I can't wait for another 1 thousand 😀

I got my first Gjallahorn from PoE and my friend got so mad because he still didn't have one. We ran it again and he got a hawkmoon when he already had it and I got a SECOND Gjllahorn not even joking (this was a week later) and he got so mad. Ahh I love destiny and this community and all the good memories it's given myself and other people. Datto I just want to let you know that you are one of my favourite you tubers and I always get excited when you upload and I just wanna let you know that the Destiny community loves for all the good you've done. From giving us guides on how to cheese nightfalls to runnning raids propley I just want to tell you that you are a great RUclipsr and can't wait for you to sink your teeth into Destiny and get every little detail about the game. So in a nutshell thank you being a great Destiny you tuber and putting time and effort into every video that you make.

Is it weird that I totally fell in love with the first Destiny and love the sequel even more? It's like a love - hate relationship I have with Bungie. I think things will start picking up now, they've pushed and seen how far they can go before we cry bullshit.
