  • In recent years a very worrisome trend has taken hold in pop music... no guitar! Yes, sad but true, guitar is increasingly disappearing in modern music. So what do you do if the band you are playing in wants to play a tune with no audible guitar part? Well, you gotta create one. In this lesson we will take an example of guitar-challenged song and explore options of creating a part that works with the existing groove.

This is an approach I picked up listening to AWB and Michael Jackson's David Williams! In my mind it's kind of like turning the guitar into a percussion that also plays notes

These are great especially when you have a band that can groove and hold it down properly.

Hey, Rick. Have you heard Jimmy James' playing with the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and the True Loves? Apparently he's a Seattle legend. I love his playing. And he rocks a sweet old Silvertone. Check him out.

Yeah, dig their stuff. Funny story, I had moved back to my hometown of Tacoma, WA in 2016, they were playing at a bar literally 2 blocks from my apartment. Free show I think, before they were widely known. I skipped it for some reason I can't remember lol

Thanks! This was using position 4, which I believe is neck and middle combo.
