I worked at a wastewater treatment plant on the Pacific coast of Washington state and was able to view gyrfalcons a number of times when they stopped by our plant to hunt waterfowl. Absolutely beautiful birds!
Thanks for sharing your story. I will never have a chance to go to see the falcons, I did see Goshawks on my trip. The Alaskan experience I viewed as one of the last frontier.
Here in Denver Colorado, we are blessed with respectable population of red tailed hawks. My neighbor spotted one on top of a blue spruce in the yard by our house. Just scanning for the next meal. Last year spotted one on the ground with its meal of a dead rabbit. Getting in close to record it with my camera irritated the hawk and it simply flew up on top of a power pole to continue lunch. Last year a bald headed eagle set up shop on top of a large cotton wood tree in a major park in town Normally the lake below teems with ducks, geese and sea gulls. Not with the eagle perched overhead. I was hoping it would go for a fish. But just flew off. Love birds of prey.
I love Gyrfalcons very much! Very pure white in both colour and nature. However, the most I adore is the Peregrine falcon. Their diving speed (stoop) can reach up to 350km/h and I managed to see one during my hiking trip.
@Meeko - hasn't seen grass since 2020 about 3000 in the UK, so not really common but not too rare. for comparison, a common sight is the kestrel and there are 100,000 of those
Gyrfalcon, or "aksungur" in Turkish, was one of the nost sacred totem animals of pre-Islamic, shamanistic Turks in Eastern Siberia. We still love and respect this wonderful bird, so much so that one of the strongest Turkish drones is named after it.
Too much work, you can only eat meat. Being a Vulture is better since nothing really ever preys on them and they can eat pretty much anything including man-made foods and snacks
@@michaelanderson7715 Read: My tiny mind can't comprehend the idea that if I can't see something, it doesn't exist so I'd rather stick to an unproven theory.
The ghostly Gyrfalcon falcons are rare and incredible. Love their breathtak speeds. They breed far away from human disturbances, but sadly the warming climate is affecting them.
It would be great to see the entire movie and not sure why this entire movie isn't available. Only a DVD - I stopped using those more than a decade ago. Anyway, please make this available on subscription streaming
I googled to find out what kind of hawk i was looking at here in Ohio, it it could have been any of the several thats native to this state.😩 I couldnt see enough of it plumage to make it out. We have Bald Eagle here too. Those were exciting to see up close in real time.
Ellesmere Island? I'm out! I have a friend from Cambridge Bay and that's about 1,000 miles south and still not on Canada's mainland. Then from that extent of the mainland it is another 2,000 miles to southern Ontario where we all live. They still manage to get home once in a while. One disappears back to Cape Dorset for months at a time to refresh his connections to home.
Beautiful this is a powerful bird the way it sore i just couldn't hear the narrator it was very low on my side the volume. just to watch this was amazing

Peregrines are my second favorite bird of prey second only to the gorgeous Cooper's Hawk
We have peregrines in UK which nest in cathedrals - last year it was possible to see 4 or 5 of them circling the cathedral at the same time

i saw a golden eagle catch something really close once

Lmao turkeys drones are trash out good when used against third world countries
The One Almighty who made them is the Only Sacred most.
Then why do they slaughter and eat birds
@@Ghostwriter33 Are you in your right mind? Who slaughter and eat "raptors"?🤔
This was amazing to watch. Thanks for sharing. Love nature.
I like how the beak is smeared with blood. Gives it a menacing look
If I could be any animal, it would definitely be a Falcon, Hawk, or an Eagle.
Gosh, make a decision!
Too much work, you can only eat meat.
Being a Vulture is better since nothing really ever preys on them and they can eat pretty much anything including man-made foods and snacks
So… poor parent-ship? (A lot of birds let their kids fight to death, and only care for the strongest)
@@AaronShenghao still better than most humans 😆
If I'm not mistaken Hawks are in fact eagles.
Wow! Absolutely stunning kings and queens of the skies.
all those black hearts on his body, very cool falcons
