      I might just START by cracking the shell for scent and leaving it on...Reds have to crack a shell anyway normally...that way the crab has less of a chance of getting eaten up by smaller creatures and remains a larger target

    What hook size should I use for this? I’m pretty novice.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Год назад

      Depends on the size of the bait you are using. 1-2inch pieces of bait will fit well with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. Always match the size of your bait to the hook, not to the size of the fish you're after.

    Great video! I'm stepping up to larger fishing and plan to do this tomorrow. I'm curious, is there a reason for the swivel vs say a uni knot? I'm thinking since we are fishing bait we won't be casting as much so the swivel isn't an issue.

    When hardheads or other unwanted fish are stealing your shrimp as fast as you can throw it out blue crabs is the best solution. Works best with small blue crabs you will have to catch yourself.

      Do a combination bait, by using bait tying thread. Combine squid with the crab. The snapper might not like it.

      You'd have to check local regulations. In Florida, for example, it's almost always illegal to use a treble hook with natural bait (live of dead). But that might be different where you are.

    I don't understand how y'all could catch him on 25-pound lb mono and 15 pound braid the Bull's I hook onto will easily snap that line weight even with the drag set as low as possible I wouldn't use anything under 50 some massive monsters out there.

      No way you will get a bull red over 30" which will eat a bait like that on 15lb braid. Unless its all in his kayak. Maybe wear it down and follow it in the boat. Not from land or pier or jetty. Get spooled or broken off most certainly.

    • @deadrabbits8788

      If fishing any kind of structure on bottom, betrer use 50lb braid and atleast 40lb yozuri leader

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 7 лет назад

      The only time i really use swivels is when using a sinker with live or cut bait. If i am free lining or using artificials I always use an FG knot for the braid to leader connection. I try to avoid any extra "jewelry" on my rigs as much as possible.
