At first I thought it was a photoshopped picture! It’s really amazing what crazy animals exist on this world...
You took the words right outta my mouth, that's exactly what I thought!✌👍
You must be very young... ive seen so many strange creatures that this does not suprise me anymore:(
@@Noutelus
I agree. I remember, when, I believe it was the okapi was proven to exist. I've seen so many species "found" that I can't remember which one it was.
I am not into cryptids though. We know what the chupacabra is, a mangy coyote, and aside from blurry and/or "doctored" photographs, there is not one shred of evidence of the so-called bigfoot or Nessie.
It makes me feel like we are in space. Like on a planet in space 😁
gear machine Yeah, if things look this crazy here on earth, imagine how crazy aliens from other planets would look.
One thing you could've added to this: The more common species are getting increasingly popular as pets in the insect keeping hobby. It's still a small volume of them that are imported but it is increasing.
Sadly the importers only ever catch females, for obvious reasons. This collection could become a threat in the future if they are not more strictly protected or (and I prefer this method) if we manage to breed them in captivity thus making imports, even illegal ones, worthless.
Their diet and lifestyle is similar to other beetle species that are already being successfully captive bred, so long term keeping and breeding should not be too hard, the problem is somehow getting at males.
I would hate humanity if this species went extinct. So I agree with you.
Omg I want one any way you can get a hold of a female ethically?
@@spectacularsceptile3879 As far as I know no one has managed to breed them in captivity yet, so I guess not. I'm tempted to buy some myself, they only cost about 20 bucks but I'm opposed to the import of animas where there is no chance of continued breeding in captivity so :(
@@Fruchtpudding buy them and try to see if you can make them breed (unless you know little about beetles)
Fruchtpudding breeding in captivity would by no means make importing worthless
Depending on how difficult it is for them to conceive, imports could potentially be cheaper, especially so if restrictions get put on breeders
Even if it’s easy to breed them in captivity, owning them is relatively niche so you’d most likely have them get shipped to you anyway, so imports may be an easier way to access them than through breeders
I like the idea of humanely breeding them, just wanted to add food for thought
Looks like something from a Japanese Kaiju movie.
it looks like battra:)
Or Starship Troopers.
JonWashburn I was literally about to comment “we need a Kaiju based off this.”
@@NodDisciple1 that's what I was thinking
If Battra ever returns in anything, it's larval form needs to look like this.
When I first saw this beatle I thought they looked exactly like grown up beetle larvae but grown up. Thanks for confirming, that that is actually the case! Absolutely interesting animals.
Women are just big children, confirmed.
Amazing how I can still learn of entire families of animals formerly completely unknown to me. Thank you for that lesson!
This thing from Southeast Asia? 😮
As Indonesian I never see nor heard about this beetle, this bug is amazing and beautiful!
Aku baru lihat di channel ini
naa na sa lasang bai
Yup never seen on Borneo as well
They’re also in Madagascar. Very, VERY endangered. It’s illegal to kill them (well duh). They’re beautiful.
It looks like they might be related to Fireflies. Fireflies also have larviform females, and the male Trilobite Beetle at least superficially resembles a firefly male.
they don't appear to be the same family so probably some convergent evolution
Yet, we raid Area 51 to find aliens while we have Zerg larva here...
Those plates on top look bulletproof!! Their unique but different and beautiful at the same time!!
At first I thought the females looked just like a beetle larva. Some species like ladybugs have larvae that are quite similar. That is also apparently the case because these beetles never actually become "full-grown" beetles, which is pretty cool.
Woah that's a beautiful looking bug
Reminds me of the Akrids in lost planet
Especially looks like the Bugrancher armor set.
They look related to lampyridae. Anyone know? About to look into it.
Edit- Same superfamily- elateroidea
Fire fly?
@@jiminmanoban1273 yeah. The males look like them.
@Nevaeh The Maverick
and the females look like lampyridae larvae
The females are really cool and look like living tanks and the males are beautiful, they look like something you would see in a game, they look 3D
Well... you know, they actually are in 3D in reality.

I mean, well, gijinkas are always an option so sure
Props to those males for doing their duty smashing that thing
There are some here in Croatia, not as big or colorful like that, a bit more modest looking, but they actually look like an ankylosaur more than a trilobite. Even if more modest, they are still amazing to look at.
Ah convergent evolution, will you ever cease to amaze?
I know and to evolve a similar design to that of trilobites of all animals.
Evolution is a lie.
living_dead_guy_222 Cute. Found the guy who never passed 5th grade.
@@JoeyBullet222 And you worship a dead man.
evolution is bullshit
they look like something out of an alien movie
They look like they could exist in subnautica
Like sandshark!
Not gonna lie I'm getting Legendary Godzilla M.U.T.O. vibes.
Trilo-beetle
This looks so amazing , I would keep it as pet lol
You can actually, they are quite popular pets!
@@olimthomas6515 that's amazing I might look up about them some more
That's morally questionnable tho
Asrath Qathreth then how are they kept alive long enough to get to the consumer, sounds like bs my friend
Oli M Thomas
‘They’re quite popular pets’
No. No. They’re... it’s illegal to keep them. Do you know how endangered they are? Jeez, please research.
Reminds me of Red Eye from Lost Planet or maybe the Trilids
What the hell i lived in Malaysia all my life and never saw or heard about these things all my life. Wow just
.. wow
Super adorable! I wish there were more of them.
These beautiful creatures have just inspired my next dinosaur hybrid.
Idk why but I really want to see that
Isn't that the thing on the old star trek where they crawl into someone's ear?
KAAAAHN! KAAAAHN!
If they needed to save the whales, we could guess that the trilobite beetles are extinct in the future.
You nailed it looks just like that seen from star trek.
That was more of an earwig.
Could you make a video about the golden jackal. It's a canid that has been spreading its habitat in recent decades/centuries in at least Europe. They are adapted to all kinds of environments and eat almost anything. They can now be found from Vietnam to Arabian peninsula to Estonia. Finland's first confirmed jackal sighting was made just few weeks ago. I think it's crazy how a land dwelling, relatively large mammal has veen able to spread so far.
i love him i miss trilobites so much but this is a good little dude to help me cope with their loss
They're soooo cuuute!
I just subbed btw.😊👍
They remind me of forest millipedes, such interesting and pretty bugs.
Fascinating & gorgeous little critters. I wouldn't be surprised if they're eventually kept as pets (like some other gigantic insects). They kind of remind me of the giant whistling Queensland cockroach native to North-Eastern Australia. Giant insects, arachnids & other arthropods are really fascinating creatures. I gotta wonder how big they'd.grow if they had better circulatory & pulmonary systems - especially lungs (instead of spiracles).
fyi - The three lobes of Trilobites are located vertically on their bodies (Left, Centre, Right) & not running in horizontal segments (of which they can have a few, or dozens - depending on the species).
you know, this is the first video that comes up when i search for trilobite, congratulations.
That sure is an uplifting ending.. :/
is it just me or does he sound like he's smiling while talking?
wouldn't you be if you found out Trilobite Beetles exist?
This does put a smile on my face.
"they might not live in the water, but still like it wet"
oh ho ho do they now, haha.
That animal gives me goosebumps.
In Kinabalu Park, they are abundant and very easy to find. You can find multiple females on pretty much any rotten log.
*What the heck is that? I never heard of such a Beetle. Anyway I wonder if you'll still make a video about the Megalosaurus in those within the genus of this particular type of theropod dinosaur*
Are they close relative to fireflies? Because females of fireflies also don't go through full metamorphosis.
3:35 gosh i hope that the amount of extinctions per day isn't vary high
Wow, if that's real, that's an incredible looking creature. Thank you for sharing this. I've never seen one of these before so again, thank you for sharing this.
Is that Batra? #gojirafan
Oh yeah! It does look like Batra!
*Battra
Battra to the próx Godzilla movie
Mmmmmmm yes
Ah yes, a real-life Chaurus.
Wow those are amazing I've never even heard of them before. I sure hope that they continue to thrive for generations to come. Thank you very much for this amazing video. I've learned so much from watching your channel
Thank you for watching!
In 2016 or 15 (I live in North Dakota) I was walking on a sidewalk by a grassy dip that gose down to a treeline by a river. I found what looked like what was on the thumbnail but WAY smaller. About half an inch maybe smaller & it didn't wriggle, it crawled.
Creatures like those are a reason why I always wanted a flamethrower. I love all animals, but all insects are so scary for me, I've never would touch it, even watching videos like this makes me shiver.
I saw one of these in Borneo and they quickly became my favourite beetle , cool video
Great channel man! All killer no filler
It's amazing what we don't know! Liked & subbed.
I’ve learned from taking an entomology course that insect larvae are not analogous to vertebrate infants in which adulthood becomes their essential being. Many insects spend most of their lives, sometime years, as larvae before pupating into their adult forms which exist for a very short time just so that they can get where they need to be to reproduce and then die.
These insects, man. Always up to something. What a beautiful little fella.
Finally a video on this. i've been waiting for a good video by someone on it!
best week ever Ben g Thomas
Looks like something out of Monster Hunter. Swear I need to go grab my Longsword...
Thanks so much for this. I had never heard of this beautiful creature and it’s odd ways of procreation. Indeed there are probably many creatures that still are unknown to us. Maybe it’s better to keep it that way. People tend to destroy everything they lay their eyes on...
If the last environment of a given species is destroyed due to logging, local weather patterns or whatever else, that species will die whether or not it's existence was known to humans. The best deal of species that have gone extinct while humans have been a global species were gone before we ever even had the chance to be worried for them.
Land has value. So has anything that might be in it. If there isn't a strong reason not to use it, it probably will be. There could be a road, somebody's home, some farmland, anything. By shutting our eyes from any potential unique life on that particular plot of land or water, they are just doomed to death by collateral damage.
Miska Kopperoinen true, but is is a fact that the exploitation of the Earth is taking a big toll. There could be saved many natural environments if people started thinking and care less about money profit than they do now. In Brazil they are destroying primary forest by logging all for the profit of a few. They even kill the indigenous people because they protect their forest. Illegal logging is not punished. In Sumatra the Orangutan is is almost totally wiped out because of the disappearance of its environment.... and these are just two of the things people are doing to our planet. We should start to think hard, because we are with too many and we are destroying our home. I don’t say that we can solve everything but there has to be a willingness to do it. That is what is now missing. Our race is so busy with making war and with finding more ways to bend nature to our will that we don’t see the coming deluge.
This is why i love this channel, i wasnt even aware that this animal existed.
That thing is real!? How have I never seen these before!? These are some of the coolest looking beetles I’ve ever seen!
I have never heard of nor seen this critter before. I will have to do some more digging. It is pretty cute.
Incredible, convergent evolution managed to bring the trilobite to life
never seen black and orange horse before, amazing
When it grows 10 meters long and starts flying,
Nausicaa Vallley of the Wind
Wonderful critters! 😍❤️
I've seen one here in Philippines... it's like that but it got no spikes in tail... more like millipede shape in the tail.. maybe a rare specie of trilobite beetle or a hybrid
Most of us don't realize what a difference there is between most beetle larvae and their adult forms. At a glance, ladybug larvae look more like millipedes than beetles. Thanks for this, I never heard of this group before.
that is straight up a a dinosaur bug size like they looks so cool
they look like they came straight out of a fantasy world.
I can see what inspired the Akrid in lost planet
They have come along way since N64 I can only imagine what its like now.
...bizare beautiful creature. ^^
That’s really so cool, thank you.
I have video of a Trilobite beetle eating another insect. I live in North Carolina and had NEVER seen ANYTHING like this bug before. 😲😲😲. I was both disgusted and fascinated at the same time.
Nature is always amazing
Just shows how effective the trilobites niche is.
I can see why they are called a trilobite beetle. They look like a trilobite. Very interesting insects.
the years and years of watching documentaries, i have somehow missed ever seeing this beetle.
Holy Shit.
Pokemon are real.
These things look so awesome!
I live in Malaysia, the first time I saw these beetles it freaked me out because it looked like something from starcraft.
Nice, must have been amazing to see them in the flesh
It REALLY looks like a hollow knight enemy or miniboss.
New favourite beetle species
Trilobite Beetle ?, are you sure ?, I think it’s a Real ALIEN.
At least it's not a traditional source of Ancient Chinese Medicine™
Wow first time ever hearing about these!! And I've been watching animal shows for over 20 years
Trilobite beetle, you had the chance to call it trilobeetle and you passed it up. Press F for a missed opportunity.
Wow! I've never seen this insect before.
They're so beautiful.
I love Animal of the Week!
They look like a boss monster from Lost Planet. Look at all that thermal energy
How have I never heard of these, their amazing looking!
What beautiful beetles. Given the thousands of species, beetles are pretty successful.
OMG My 3 new favourite insects, mole crickets, trilobite beetle and mantis fly.. soo freskin Starship Troopers..
Looks like an alien. Just awesome.
520-250 million years ago... Now that's zooming in on some precision.... ahhh hahahaha
Somebody from another planet would be astounded to see what aliens look like.
That thing is so cool looking I'm almost not terrified by it
I see smaller versions of this everywhere in Idaho.. they are black and orange, but don't have those three large plates on the top of their body. I always thought they were a species of caterpillars.
Edit: just looked it up, found it rather quickly tbh... I'm thinking of a lady bug larva. Not as similar as I thought, but I can see why I got confused.
When this will come in market
Me:I will take your entire stock
Looks like it should have been in the new godzilla movie.
Kool looking bug
I would defetnely have a pair of these as a pet...
They are so beautiful!!!
