Gonz is one of the reasons why I consider skating more of an art form than a sport.

He exactly embodies all of the reasons why I started skating, loved skating, and still love skating, despite the fact that I don't skate anymore.
You can always take it up again. Just need to know your limits if you are old like me. I'm going on 50 and started up again earlier this year.
I started skating again after a 10 year hiatus. I recommend it
you skate - it's just been a while. i've been on my board a lot lately and loving it. a little expectation management is required but the fun is out there waiting for us, always!

Yeah since he's Irish too, it inspired me to be a better person.
Yeah, since his name's Mark it inspired me to buy a bunch of markers.
The thing about Gonz is that nowadays people watch him when he shows up in other videos like he does in some FA, Jenkem and so on. But because he just cruises around and is being weird and not really doing much skating in modern videos, the younger generation don't even realise, just how good he really was.

That shit is tight, Gonz is one of the skaters I've always looked up to since back in the day, he paved the way and helped define the foundations of modern street skating. So much respect

Mark's street skating could have possibly been the original inspiration for "Zoo York".. He's got the funnest style and one of my main heroes thought I get nervous for him going in and out of all those peeps on the streets.
So rad though and almost always in control and then controls they out of control. We Skateboarders are lucky. I can't think of too many scenes that have such dynamic personalities and approach to life.
The part at 10:24 is one of the sickest things I've seen. It's not super complicated but flows so nicely and sets him back up to his normal stance

It was important to me, because we didn't have parks, most pools were vinyl lined, and there was only one backyard ramp in the area, and that was in an adjacent smaller city. We skated street. Might not look impressive to today's kids, but you have to remember he was doing it 30 YEARS before your favorite modern skater.

Gonz is #1. The only other skater that brings this much insane energy to the street is Milton Martinez.

Gonz inspires me so much its un describable, its incredible how he balances between creativity and skill, fun, and even social aspects his spots................................. most of all hes having fun it so awesome, this really separate him into a legend category all its own, exery time I hear a skateboard in nyc I check to see its mark, but you can usually tell. Great Classics jason best one yet!

Gonz was sick. I love the Vision Streetwear black suede kicks. And those spots were straight out of Thrasher. A kid living in the hills of NC and many more like him learned to skate watching these videos.

I remember being mesmerized by that kickflip hippie jump between the railing the first time I watched this on VHS back in the day. Thanks for putting this video on here, it brings back some good memories!
I'm still mesmerized by it. Lance Mountain does one over a pool ladder in Extremely Sorry that's pretty great, he we pushing 50 when he did it.

Saw the Gansz at a skate show in Hawaii in 1989, doing a rail slide on his board upside down during the practice sessions. Realized he looked at everything differently and was super inspired!

I miss the early 90s the smell of the coffee at the Cafe we would hang out at the taste of beer when you're young, how easy you rebound from a gnarly slam.. watching these videos brings me back and I can smell the coffee
This was the real skating I grew up with... when we skated for fun, not to try and land tricks for instagram/youtube/etc because we wanted everyone else to see what we could do
