He got support from the west and all he did was to execute his generals because they didnt want to get their soldiers massacered so he made them retreat. 8 years of war and nobody won

@@waterfall4535 It wasn’t just that, Iran heavily relied on children soldiers. The Iranian goverment sometimes literally forced them and they did it as “martyrs” as they call it, the Iraq-Iran war was a slaughterhouse to say the least
@@russkayaimperiya4918 My father was a child volunteer, they weren’t forced. In fact he had to fake his birth certificate and the guy still found out but wouldn’t let my dad in, so my dad cried and begged him on his knees and the guy eventually allowed him to sign up

But you guys did lose an air base close to the syrian border and were on the defense for most of the war and the only reason baghdad didn’t fall was you used gas to kill children and make an internal crisis in iran and that the soviets basically gave you free tanks and helicopters to stop iran from winning a war against a socialist country

My dad was a lieutenant from 1983 to 1992 he serverd in this war in Basrah slemaniya and worked at Baghdad then I'm so proud of him 🇮🇶
My father was a basiji around since Operation Karbala 1 to Operation Mersad, i am also quite proud of him. He also fought in suleymaniyah and basra 🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

gotta hand it to Iran though. While the Arab states are normalizing ties with Israel, Iran is the only OG in the field fighting against Israel and the USA. That Irani fighting spirit is something different.

Those F-14 Tomcats are still flying to this day after the 80s and they are old but still useable to the Persians. Hell they still have their original weapons the Tomcat uses.
My grandfather was killed in this war while fighting against the Iranian army. It was a great war (I am from Iraq 🇮🇶)

I don’t exactly know why this is the case but I think that of all the RUclips videos and channels that I follow this place would probably be the best question kind of location. Is Iran basically just the Soviet union but the Middle East and with F-14s that were left behind by the Americans?
IIRC the F-14s were bought by the previous regime, several batches were delivered to Iran before the regime got toppled. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@@_ichsanni8294 yep. Before the 1979 revolution, the Iranian Shah and Iran itself was incredibly important and close to the US and UK for strategic and economic reasons during the Cold War. With this close relationship and Iranian oil, Iran was able to purchase the most advanced arms they had to offer before the US and UK git to play with them. That US not an exaggeration. Despite coming and being made for the US military, Iran had F-14s in Active service before the US military got a single one

Iraq : Soviet tanks - soviet scud missiles - German made chemical gas - Soviet Mil helies - Ak47 & RPG - Mig 23 - all sorts of Migs - Mirage + French pilots - All sort of Arab soldiers from neighbour Arab countries- soviet anti aircraft guns missiles and tanks, American and British and European loans ( that Sadam had to pay back that's why he attacked Kuwait ) I guess that's all. About the machinery. Iran's lack of equipment made them use infantry waves mostly to win the war while Iraq was mostly trying armoured units rush without the support of infantry mostly.

Not just that, Iran was the strongest and well-funded in the region under the Shah. At some point it was the 3rd most funded Army in the world, not just that but it’s size was massive aswell and was very disciplined and modernized. People were calling Iran the great power of the middle east at the time and predicted that Iran would be a 1st world nation in this century alone. That says a lot, the fact that Iraq went as far as it did is a wonder and because of the revolution obviously.

I wrote a paper on the Iran-Iraq war back in the 80s. My teacher asked me "Why did you choose this topic?" I had no clear reply to give other than "It just made sense...". It was either that or the Chernobyl accident. But I got a passing grade so at least there was that. I wish I had saved that paper.

As an Iranian 🇮🇷, I pay tribute 🫡 to all the Iranian 🇮🇷 and Iraqi 🇮🇶 soldiers who fought to defend their country, city and home, because these soldiers did not cause the war or wanted it, to defend themselves and their families, they had to fight. In the hope of peace and tranquility and the destruction of all governments and regimes that want war and unrest to advance their dirty policies, it does not matter if that regime is in Iran 🇮🇷, Iraq 🇮🇶, USA 🇺🇲, Russia 🇷🇺 ... or even Palestine 🇵🇸 or Israel 🇮🇱.
