@@jacobschiller4486 It's super good. They definitely did everything in their power to tie up all plot threads into a neat little bow. Probably one of the top 3 spiderman movies of all time. With only Spiderman 2, and Spiderverse contending with it for the top spot.

Personally, I'll have two Ninja decks. Yuriko and Satoru. Both can play super differently.

Exactly! And making Satoru part of the 99 in Yuriko would make Drako, Archetype of Imagination, Icebreaker Kracken and other high CMC creatures easy to play and not just use for CMC damage.

He probably will be a great commander...just not for ninjas. Also Yuriko probably does not want him in the 99, because...her Ninjas already have ninjutsu and his first ability works against the top deck manipulation common in Yuriko decks.
I would see him as a "Dimir, Lord of Riots"
I mean, you still get the trigger for playing B for skull snatcher, so I don't see why you couldn't do a ninja tribal deck
I think he would be a good card to swap for another ninja alongside Yuriko, definitely would be good if you include some changeling like I do. I think he would be good with some spectures and infect blue black
@@Peaceful978 There are 2 changelings I run: Changeling Outcast & Mothdust Changeling. Because they are Ninjas with evasion built in. Other than that I play creatures with evasion (& topdeck manipulation - love myself some owls) or ninjas. There is a limited space in the deck after all
Bold of you to assume that yuriko has alot of ninjas in her deck, lets be honest most of them are just unblockable creatures that she uses to come in.
@@spudster8887 To whom is this a reply? Because my comments never insinuated that Yuriko runs a lot of ninjas. Only that those she runs already have ninjutsu (and the other creatures are too cheap to benefit from the Ninjutsu effect of Satoru).
It's essentially blue-black Kaalia. Not so much a ninja commander but a cheat into play commander. Kill on Sight, as they say.
He’s a dimir sneak attack with card advantage. I like him however Yuriko still rules ninjas
I gotta admit, getting the artist that made the art for MGS is amazing. I love that alternative version but I'm conflicted because it's way divorced from the magic aesthetic... Life's tough choices man.
It’s not a ninja commander, it’s a ninjutsu commander.
I really like this card, but I don't think its going to become the new Ninja Tribal commander. I think he's on roughly the same power level as Yuriko when both are built casually, but his deck would focus on switching in huge beaters while Yuriko actually cares about Ninjas, and gives a massive payoff for ninjas whereas Umezawa just benefits from an ability activation once per turn. I like him, he's gonna be fun, he goes into a Yuriko deck at lower power levels, but I don't think he's the new best ninja tribal commander. That'd be like saying Glissa the Traitor is the best golgari elf commander. Fun, has a synergy or two, but the game plan isn't really elf focused.
Yuriko is only stronger because commander tax doesnt affect her. yuriko can never one shot someone. umezawa can and can completely obliterate someone. Yuriko really wins off extra turn cards which is just abysmal to play against. Umezawa i think will be more consistent overall. Plus other ninjitsu abilities will trigger off of umezawa ninjitsu creatures.
The best Elf Golgari commander is Abomination of Llanowar :)

I think that Satoru could actually see some competitive play. If you can make infinite mana during combat (perhaps by using Emergence Zone to do your combo), you can switch out creatures infinitely. Use anything that with a broad ETB trigger (like Altar of the Brood or Dire Undercurrents) to basically win.
Just glad they’re adding more ninjas to the tribe
Another S-Tier commander that makes me wonder if anyone would have fun sitting across the table from it.
I don't think this is nearly impactful enough to be s-tier. it's super good and a-tier for sure but I don't think it's reliable or convenient enough to punch into that level.
I agree, this makes me want to really build ninjas, but at the risk of making people never want to play against it
As someone who has to sit across the table from it… I absolutely hate it. It’s my least favorite deck to play against. My bf (the Deck’s owner) loves it. He actually built the deck almost exactly like this here in the video after he watched this video. Just missing the Blightsteel. Every time he says he’s playing that deck, I immediately know I’m going to have zero fun for the next 1-2 hours.
Before watching: This guy, astral cornucopia and two artefact untapper creatures
A fun synergy with the primordials and other evasive etb creatures, if you have enough mana, you can ninjutsu one in, then return it to ninjutsu another thing, then bounce the other thing to ninjutsu the original creature back into play all before damage. This synergy has been used in some yuriko decks at higher power levels to have the ninjutsu clone creature copy a dockside to make infinite treasures.
It can even be after damage, before the combat phase is over
Updated oracle text saves us from Phage the untouchable instant kill (play from hand => cast from hand)
Yuriko: I make anything ninja game-winning.
Satoru: I make anything game-winning ninja.
Put in a good bit of unblockable rogues. Then throw in big things like Blightsteel and the blue preator

If you wanted to board wipe all of your opponents while also getting a little bit of damage through you could also use Ninjutsu to drop in a masker girl mid combat
One interesting fun fact. You could in theory use two clones (one of which would be Sakashimas Student) in declares blocker step or in the combat damage step (after damage was dealt) to let ninjas leaf and enter as crazy.
So if You cheat out Peregrine Drake or Palinchron for 4 you can then switch between a normal clone (2BU) and Sakashimas Student (1U) over and over again.
So in short clones can repeat a crazy amount of ETBs or even go infinit. Peregrine Drake and any two clones would already work to get infinit Mana and depending on the ETBs available on the field it will already cause you to win.
Disclaimer: I wouldn't use that against friends. My friends hate that so I don't do it
I suppose that is a way of playing it at flash speed and basically making it uncounterable, but if you just have palinchron and a clone you already have infinite mana and ETBs at sorcery speed and that's a two card combo compared to a four card combo (commander, two clones, and palinchron).
@@MrParagonical It would work a bit different. It is more about escalating synergies. Mitch mentioned Dead-Eye Navigator in regards of reusing the ETBs. You can exchange ninjutsu creatures among each other as often as you want and as often as you have mana.
Basicly the clone can also be returned to your hand for 2BU even if it becomes the copy of another creature besides palinchron.
If you have a specifice clone: Sakashimas Student for the infinit mana combo you could take an unblocked creature cheat Palinchron into play with Ninjutsu and turn 4 mana into 7. Then you use 2 mana to cheat in Sakashimas Student copy and ETB of an opponents creature and then switch Sakashimas Student for Palinchron.
You could also use Azra Smokeshaper and turn your whole battlefield indestructible and get infinit mana.
Then you can use the infinit mana to replace all creatures on the field with big threats like Blightsteel Colossus from your hand. And if the opponent wants to exile it you just use the rest of the infinit mana to ninjutsu twice and get the same board state but the spell has no more target.
The double clone approach is more or less just needed for the Peregrine Drake or if you don't have a Sakashimas Student.

@@Fausto_4841 the problem was the eminence abilities they had back then were busted! they needed to nerf them a bit. I think this card needs commander ninjitsu though

Not counting Neon Dynasty, there are 17 cards with ninjutsu. Satoru only gives you a discount on two of them. I can't imagine him replacing Yuriko as the choice commander for Ninja Tribal.
That said, he'll absolutely be a good commander in a different style of deck.
@@Fausto_4841 Exactly. He's definitely a commander that will do something interesting, and people will build around him. But he won't be replacing Yuriko in any decks. Because Yuriko's deck is full of ninjas that don't need to be given ninjutsu. Satoru will have his own, separate deck.
I thought you could choose which cost you pay when presented with 2, say moonsnare hacker with ninjutsu of an island, it would also give it an optional cost of 2, black, blue. I always imagined him to not really effect your ninjutsu ninjas, but to give your big scary chaps an option to come into play for cheap!
some cards that could be placed in the deck are Nether traitor [went down in price]. Neurok invisimancer.quicksilver gargantuan. frost titan. Break the bank part, lord of the void. sower of discord. Demon of deaths gate.

A fun deck would be a clone deck, that would make every single clone basically a Sakashima's Student with the commander out.
He’s good, but I still think Yuriko is better personally. Commander ninjutsu is super good and Yuriko being able to passively whittle away at all your opponents life totals is too good to pass up on in the command zone.
A weakness of Yuriko, who I love and play as one of my commanders, is that politics are out the window because you have to hit everyone
Years ago, I built my Dimir deck to be 'mystery attackers'. It was morphs and ninjas. It never had a good commander until Yuriko was printed, who was perfect for the deck. I have since also added some manifest cards and first stike equipment (hitting with first strike, then ninjutsu to also deal regular damage).
New umezawa just doesn't work as well for a ninja deck, it uses ninjutsu in a very different way and will be a very different style of deck...which happens to not be what I want for my Dimir deck.
I have a deck with just a bunch of various on-hit effects that was previously helmed by Mirko Vosk just because I like the card. I'll swap him with this. Point of the deck was to just have all kinds of different powered effects that sometimes might be more fun than destructive. Satoru will make it way better because now it's really going to be a surprise
you could play him as a reanimator deck with him as backup
Shrieking Drake is an incredibly useful little powerhouse in decks like this. It's cheap, it has invasion, and pulls back creatures with powerful ETB triggers to your hand.
Big creatures be like: "You know, I'm something of a ninja myself."
A note on etb ninjutsu you can ninjutsu them in and then back out in the same combat

Coming back to this video post new capenna release. The 6/6 kraken is an amazing addition in a ninja deck esp with this guy. Either the opponent eats a 6/6 4cmc creature attack which is usually favorable. Or they tap you out and now you have a 1/1 unblockable fish. Ninja fish who transform into godlike creatures. So many fun names you can give the deck. I kinda like "don't tap the kraken".

I really wish you could make a budget version of this. $100 or less. I have a few big hitters but I need more synergy in the instants/sorceries/enchantments, as well as recommendations for big hitters that have ETB or when dealing damage triggers. Not great a building decks and only started playing in January. Thanks!!!
Its a suuuuper strong cheat commander, but i seriously dont think of him as a good ninja commander. Saldy the last one would be a better fit for me.

So, contrary to the thought of using the ninjitsu on small dudes, it may be the way to go! The ninjitsu is not an attack trigger but a trigger after blockers are declared! You can use the ninjitsu after damage is dealt but at the at of that damage step where damage can't be taken back but they are still classified as attackers or beforehand to then ninjitsu in the small fry you used to get the ninjitsu in the first place and reuse etbs while getting ready for next combat
Or ninjistu into another high cost creature with an etb
Thanks to you I've made a pretty dangerous deck I call "Yakuza" because it's a mix of these cards and more Neon Dynasty and New Capenna.
The out of nowhere effect is a bit scary, but I think a there's a few decent counters in red, and black (blue is kinda a given)
Unless you stifle it, Ninjutsu can't be countered.

I can’t believe you didn’t mention Krydle of Baldur’s Gate! He only costs UB, is budget friendly, and can make ANY creature unblockable.

Lightning greaves would also be incredible for a cheap way to have the engine pop off turn after turn with your low-cost, evasive creatures
You don’t really need greaves. I made a test deck in Mana box with 36 creatures (not including the commander), 15 of which are big demons or Eldrazi or something equally scary, and the rest are 1 or 2 mana unblockable or flying critters. Its very easy to have a hand and early turn draw where you can both pay the ninjitsu cost and play a critter each turn, so there is always a creature without summoning sickness ready to swap out. You only need two critters in your hand to do this, after all.

@@sailordaigurren8225 creature removal is light work nowadays…. Unless yur not playing red, white, or black, sometimes Blue. You should be fine 🤷🏾♂️ only color with limited creature spot removal is Mono green. But then they’ve got beast within…..but shouldn’t be hard.

It's a good sneak attack oriented commander in Dimir, though for Ninja Tribal I'm currently sticking with Yuriko unless another legendary Ninja comes out. He is going into my Ninja Tribal deck though as a Ninjutsu payoff. Just not the commander, unless I want to play against lower power decks; then he'll swap with Yuriko.
do you get attack triggers from ninjutsu? from say like Kozilek, Butcher of Truth. i assume you dont get the cast trigger but what about the annihilator?
Not a Ninja commander, but a ninjustu commander that cheats in big things. Yuriko's consistency is still outlandish though, and is better.

Idk, Yuriko still seems to be stronger. She is just a lot more efficient. We cant really judge until we get to play with these cards, but ninjutsu for 2(blue)(black) seems really expensive and even when you arent doing that, the card selection isnt that great since it is only once a turn. I hate that wizards is putting this stupid "once a turn" text on things. It makes it a lot harder to make higher teir decks with these cards.
It seems like somewhat... Restricted creature Jodah. Or rather less restricted Kaalia, since it is put into play attacking. 4 mana isn't much for Blightsteel colossus. That's in ideal situation turn 4 blightsteel that you can repeat turn 6 and turn 8.
Just it's not a good ninja commander.

I would think he isn't going to be better thank Yuriko at being a Ninja Tribal Commander, as there are only 2 other 'Ninjas' that don't have Ninjutsu already. He is 'Shredder' from TMNT though, he has everyone else fight for him like a Ninja. He will make Yuriko even more strong though IMO. Now you can have Blightsteel, Draco, and those in her CEDH deck and use them after flipping them other than trying to get them back on top deck or just discarding them. I mean Scion of Draco making most of the 'Ninjas' also Hexproof and Lifelink *shiver*?
yeah I think yuriko is still better, like it is just better card draw cause it is more than once per turn and skipping commander tax is just too good

Would this be good on a rogue tribal deck? This and the new planeswalker I’m tempted to throw in there but unsure completely of the synergies that this could bring. I currently use anowon myself as my rogue general.
No, most Rogues are low to the ground. 4 mana cost is way too high to drop on a Rogue.
If you have 2 of any of these cards: palinchron, great whale, peregrine drake and/or sakashima’s protege. You can infinite ninjutsu for infinite mana since it costs 4 mana to ninjutsu and if you have 5 lands then these guys would let you untap 5 lands letting you net a mana. Then if you have any other ETB creatures for infinite ETB too lol
Infinite mana within combat phase is significantly worse than in your main phase. A lot of hoops to jump through to go infinite with a pay off when there are so many more easy ways to main phase it
@@richardjohnson8991 yeah but then you wouldn’t play this guy if you’re trying to go infinite since there isn’t a payoff built in the commander, it’s just cool to infinite gray merchant of asphodel or something during combat.

Played a game yesterday at my LGS and my satoru deck vs a kaalia deck and 2 others. Those other guys didn't stand a chance and yes brought in blightsteel to finish the game🤣

I think this will be the more "fun" commander than Yuriko. Yuriko was an admitted design mistake and leads to less than fun games - this was probably the design "fix" for her. It looks like a more interactive commander, though I try not to kill one person off on turn 4 so they can be bored for the next hour while the game finishes. That's the one problem I see with the Blightsteel combo.

he going to be a kill on sight commnder that will make the deck do 0, you be attacking for 1 and 0 wile in your hand you will have cards uncastable due to high mana costs. Yuriko has 0 command tax, and hits all opponents at the table. Yuriko is the way of the Ninja, and Satoru is just a wana-be that will get hated of the table.

the weird thing about this commander is that he is not really a Ninja commander since he gives all your Creatures ninjutsu. He is mostly a "cheat large Stuff into play"-Commander since his first Ability is nice to have but nothing you would want to build your deck around.
I’d prefer to build a Ninfect deck.
