TIme to slay the single player of Snarfstone. My Website: day9.tv/ Me on Twitter: / day9tv Find me on Facebook: / day9tv Fancy Day[9] Swag: day9.tv/store/
two types of people - Kripp ignores when anything good happens and then says never Lucky when bad stuff happens, Day9 ignores when bad stuff happens and says he's the luckiest when good stuff happens xD
I understand why he's getting salty about being called out at playing non-optimally, because it's pretty much what chat is doing all the fucking time. Hell, I do it all the fucking time (even though he never reads youtube comments). People are, like, offended that he's lost patience with this horseshit? I imagine so! I'd imagine it gets pretty fucking insufferable hearing nothing but that day in and day out! It's annoying to watch misplays but it pales in comparison to constantly being fucking needled about it.
@15:47 You know, this is some interesting psychological food for thought. When a player plays Fatespinner, you tend to expect one of two mindsets. One, they're going for the obvious thing and hoping you simply can't play around it. Two, they're attempting to mindgame you by getting you to play around what ends up being the 'wrong' choice. But how does an AI do it? A lot of the Choose One effects are picked 'smartly' by the AI based on what they need. But sometimes, like with Discover effects, it's mostly random. If it IS random, it creates a pretty interesting mental puzzle for the player; having to globally expect either effect 50% of the time. Just kind of interesting, that only the AI would have access to that kind of power with the card (you can choose randomly yourself, but if the opponent isn't expecting that it's just a bad play).
51:00 Damn, that was a serious rant from Sean there. He's smiling through most of it, but you can tell how intensely he feels about this, and hearing chat complaints about "optimal play" get on his nerves.
I wouldn't go that far. He seems like a genuinely optimistic person, but he just can't stand people telling him what to do on his stream in his games. Even cheerful people can lose their tempers every now and then.
sullgass It's a game. You play games for fun. Sean is trying to have fun playing the game the way he wants. When you have people constantly being know it alls, hounding you about how they think you should do things, it would get on your nerves. I don't think Sean meant anything by it. That's his sense of humour. But there was definite truth in his feelings on the matter. I hate people trying to tell me how to do things or trying to influence me. I like having the opportunity to solve things on my own and learn from the experience. Not just be handed the answer. Often I'll find an even more effective way.
Yeah, I wasn't saying I didn't get where Sean was coming from, I understand completely the frustration of backseat gamers, but that's also why I think there was some real anger behind that rant, it's a genuinely frustrating thing to put up with, but his viewers wouldn't get so worked up if they weren't invested in his games and wanted him to win, I don't think they're trying to ruin it for him either.
For everyone freaking out about Sean getting sassy with chat for talking about optimal strategies etc. Just wanted to point out that he explicitly says he has no problem with it in P2 at 15:50. The guys just being his goofy self in a slightly more aggressive tone than usual, nothing to take personally!
All I'm saying is that if I had tried to do the Equality-auto-fill deck, I would have lost the dragon to a trade somehow. DayJ just has a horseshoe shoved WAAAAAY up there, Morty.
*Professor Putricide has a ton of 1-cost Paladin Secrets* 'Skulking Geist doesn't help for shit, man.' Huh? Guess Day9 and chat didn't know Geist cares not about cost changes (similar functionality with the Princes and some other cards)
This obviously isn't the first time Day9 has received criticism for not playing optimally. It's clearly a problem that has grated on him for a long time until he lashed out here. I agree with his points entirely. I think the fan's question was innocent but Day9 read something between the lines based on previous experiences with similar conversations. Or he presumed the question was about to lead there. It's frustrating to deal with people when they act like that but important to recognize the anger may not really be directed at you. I think Day9 should apologize to the fan. If I were his agent I'd suggest doing it publicly because it came across as malicious even though he probably didn't mean it to. Personally I like watching him play however he wants, whatever that happens to be. He's best when he genuinely enjoys what he's doing and people watch because he enjoys it. No sacrifices need to be made from either end.
I enjoy day9's videos but to be honest this video really humiliates him.The fact that he gives the guy the middle finger while he is humiliating himself and what he is saying is wrong as well.Boy that was hard to watch.
Since you said the phrase twice in this video, and you do seem to like to sing, are you aware of the song "This Is The Moment" from the musical "Jekyll & Hyde"?
So I feel the "You aren't doing it optimally complaint" stems from the viewers valuing of their time. At this point most of them had beaten these bosses and had likely seen other players beat them several times as well. Then Sean comes along late to the party because of the events he had been participating in for other games (which is fine) and has one of his first streams back as content people had already recently seen and he struggles on challenges and puzzles the audience has the answers for and wants to essentially bumble through on his own. But what the viewers want is to see an entertaining stream which is not necessarily Sean doing what he wants. Then when they question his method as they are frustrated with his use of his time and by extension their's he snaps a bit. He also robs them of the confirmation bias that they did it the clever way, by forcing his less effective method to work. It obviously doesn't help that many of these fights are pretty straightforward and lack real challenge. Edit: So I guess I didn't make this clear this is not prescriptive or that I think Sean did something wrong , it's just trying to put to words why his methods might be frustrating
ItsATrap Well dang, I feel like you are the first person I've seen in some time to try to understand a viewpoint rather than dismissing it as "Chat is being stupid/impatient/pretentious". Thank you for the breath of fresh air. It was a bit of a reminder for myself to do the same. Also reminds me of how I binged on Undertale playthroughs and so badly wanted the person to see the wonderful and heartfull things I saw in mine. (Seriously no one asks papyrus to repeat the tile puzzle instructions, it's so much funnier than the other option aaaaargh.)
If they've already beaten it optimally, I feel like him playing through it the way he did would have given them a new and more entertaining take on the adventure, an underdog adventure with an entertaining host. That's the opposite of robbing them of their time; it's providing a new and refreshing take on something they've already experienced.
hey day9tv its stupid because of the ramp, yesterday i was watching noxious livestream and he was losing it because when he was on 4 mana the druid was on 9 at that point plus its not op on its own people are saying that its that in combination with spreading plague
1:38 "I have not found druids to be that powerful" flashbacks to mechathun druid flashbacks to malygos druid flashbacks to token druid flashbacks to togwagle druid this did not age well
Well all games are designed to be beat.Games like dark souls and mario maker have difficulties that are extremely hard to beat which is why sean is wrong.
ajohnson9630 i think you are misrepresenting the situation here. He was asked "are you using a jade druid for this instead of building a new deck because its more challenging?" and instead of giving a normal awnser, he goes on that insane rant. It was a perfectly normal question that was asked there
Yea. single player is suppose to be beaten. It's also suppose to teach you how to optimally use the new cards. If you want to play the game suboptimally, that's fine. But don't pretend like the game was suppose to be played suboptimally
I don't think his argument was that it is supposed to be played sub-optimally. He was arguing that he doesn't enjoy playing single player optimal because he has always played game optimally as a career and want to enjoy himself more. That's what I got from it at least.
The game was meant to be played by a single person. A singular experience, which is unique to each person who plays it. Not everyone needs, wants, expects, experiences, finds challenge, finds excitement and finds satisfaction the same way you do;nor the same way anyone else does. Your argument requires that everyone need to learn how the cards function optimally, that every single designer meant the game to be played in exactly one way, that no one could learn how the mechanics work without playing a optimal deck, and that you developers of the game want people to feel they are doing it wrong if they don't do it 'the optimal way". And if you think all of that is true, I have a ocean front property in Minnesota to sell you.
Hearthstone adventures are what got me into watching day9. When he would always try and mill the bosses. So many good memories of those.
The joy of Day9 transcends all games :-)
two types of people - Kripp ignores when anything good happens and then says never Lucky when bad stuff happens, Day9 ignores when bad stuff happens and says he's the luckiest when good stuff happens xD
To be fair, back when Ragnaros was standard (or pre standard), Sean was making correct Rag calls like 60-70% of the time
"Fuck you Tog." best youtuber ! always love your style and personality.
Is it optimal? PROLLLY NAAAT
It's annoying to watch misplays but it pales in comparison to constantly being fucking needled about it.
thinking Sean is actually irritated by that and is legit salty LUL It's all part of his persona
@15:47 You know, this is some interesting psychological food for thought.

Where there's a mill there's a way :'D
51:00 Damn, that was a serious rant from Sean there. He's smiling through most of it, but you can tell how intensely he feels about this, and hearing chat complaints about "optimal play" get on his nerves.
Another reminder that most streamers' attitude is just facade.
I wouldn't go that far. He seems like a genuinely optimistic person, but he just can't stand people telling him what to do on his stream in his games. Even cheerful people can lose their tempers every now and then.
sullgass

I do agree with you. Defeated Deathwhisperer with Exodia Mage deck, because I wanted to :P
@34:37 is the way that I feel everytime I mill a card
2:21:41
Day9, you literally just saw him play a card, whose effect required a dragon in hand, without its effect going off.
All I'm saying is that if I had tried to do the Equality-auto-fill deck, I would have lost the dragon to a trade somehow. DayJ just has a horseshoe shoved WAAAAAY up there, Morty.
this is why i love day9 tiwtch chat; HUR DUR USE DA HEAL PRIEST A DUUUUUR, Day9; Fuck you here's equality autofill pali xxxxxxxD
*Professor Putricide has a ton of 1-cost Paladin Secrets*
'Skulking Geist doesn't help for shit, man.'
Huh? Guess Day9 and chat didn't know Geist cares not about cost changes (similar functionality with the Princes and some other cards)
Everyone touting the heal deck vs Deathwhisper just took 120 damage TO THE FACE.
1:08:00 LMAO

Well, hi.

3:10 I had that same reaction.
GOG DAMN THAT STARCRAFT APM
I'm your subscriber from Russia and i absolutely you and the way you play this game.
BTW, your cat is very cute ^_^
I haven't build a single custom deck for this adventure. Combo Priest all the way.
Wimperator that's one class. Somehow forgot that the actual challenge is to beat him with all 9?
This obviously isn't the first time Day9 has received criticism for not playing optimally. It's clearly a problem that has grated on him for a long time until he lashed out here. Hay Day9, what's the program your using for knowing what cards are in your deck on the side there?
Timothy Ashton Hearthstone deck tracker
Fucking perfect. LOL
Yay so hype
I enjoy day9's videos but to be honest this video really humiliates him.The fact that he gives the guy the middle finger while he is humiliating himself and what he is saying is wrong as well.Boy that was hard to watch.
That was the joke he was making.
ICE CROWN CITADEL! (ICC)
Since you said the phrase twice in this video, and you do seem to like to sing, are you aware of the song "This Is The Moment" from the musical "Jekyll & Hyde"?
Anyone know if he did the first Arthas fight on stream and if so, where to find it?
Hah, never noticed that. When he's having the brood war rant around 50 mins in look at the buff text on the dragon
I dusted my marsh queen quest, prince taldaram, and hamet to make Raza because I never use those legendary's
Why didn't u use justicar in the mill warrior??
Chandler Griffith he didn't want to use Wild cards

If you don't like the way Day9 doing his stream, then don't watch. Easy as that. Some of us enjoy the fact that he does what he wants.
Lars T I wasn't stating this as my opinion I was just trying to present why the disconnect occurred.
I've got no problems with the way he did it
Alright, got it.
ItsATrap Well dang, I feel like you are the first person I've seen in some time to try to understand a viewpoint rather than dismissing it as "Chat is being stupid/impatient/pretentious". Thank you for the breath of fresh air. It was a bit of a reminder for myself to do the same.

Come on Toag how ?
Why the fuck does he have 30 armor at 49:21
50:00 - 53:00 can somebody link me that clip? Have a friend who desperately needs to see it :D
If you mean Seans rant on optimisation while doing the Deathwhisper fight, then it's already a clip on his channel :)
Nice anime tshirt :d
Well all games are designed to be beat.Games like dark souls and mario maker have difficulties that are extremely hard to beat which is why sean is wrong.
for people who want the TL;DR of Day9's rant, without the pretentiousnes: Yes, he used a jade druid for the challenge of it
Yeah, I didn't enjoy him patting himself on the back and then misplaying with the auto fill deck. I don't mind the auto fill, I mind the ego.
Pretentious, lui?
The ego is in the people who backseat. All he did was put them in their place.
ajohnson9630 i think you are misrepresenting the situation here. He was asked "are you using a jade druid for this instead of building a new deck because its more challenging?" and instead of giving a normal awnser, he goes on that insane rant. It was a perfectly normal question that was asked there
Yeah and if I wanted a normal answer I would watch normal streamers
All these streamers ect. struggling and building custom decks and I beat all the pre-Lichking bosses with the same paladin deck.
Andrew Taylor same
thats nice, are you just posting this comment to stroke your ego or?
Jet Voidweller nah he just thinks its funny that 1 deck was good enough to beat all bossen while the streamers are crafting these combo-esque decks
Andrew Taylor Clearly you hate fun
Yea. single player is suppose to be beaten. It's also suppose to teach you how to optimally use the new cards. If you want to play the game suboptimally, that's fine. But don't pretend like the game was suppose to be played suboptimally

It's supposed to be played for fun. This isn't high end progression raiding in an MMO, it's a casual card game.
