  • ITV Schools junction from Tuesday 12 May1987, the final term the programmes were transmitted on ITV. The opening titles to the programme 'Search', a new series for that year, are included.
The slides that term suitably refelected achievements, or advances in technology, over the previous 30 years that ITV Schools had been transmitted. Transport was the theme to this slide.
The music used that term was recycled from recent terms. Sailing, by Brian Bennett and Jay T Virgo, was on the interval tape used in Autumn 1985 and Spring 1986 (although rarely heard), and Nothing Doing, by Jim Stokoe and Errol Reid, was prevously used in Autumn 1986. The clock is accompanied by one-minute edit of the track Waiting for Summer by James Aldenham (aka Brian Bennett), previously on the interval tape in Summer 1986.
Thanks to Simon Luxton for the recording, and thanks to Ben Rigsby (benriggers) for his help in dating this clip.

Waiting for Summer is probably my favourite ITV Schools and Colleges piece of music

CaptainSiCo It's taken a while, but I think RobRobintv is referring to the cue-dot that appeared in the top right corner a minute before the programme ended or went to a break, which was used to inform the other ITV companies to get ready to play out their adverts. The cue-dot is no longer used with pre-recorded television programmes as they are usually played out automatically from servers, but cue-dots are still seen from time to time on live programmes.

@RobRobintv What 'timer thing' - like an on-screen ticker or something?

Because this would be the last term of schools programmes on ITV before they were transferred to Channel 4, they didn't pick any new music for the slides. Instead they recycled some tracks from previous terms...
    1. Brian Bennett & Jay T. Virgo (aka Jim Stokoe) - Sailing (from Autumn Term 1985 & Spring Term 1986)
    2. Errol Reid & Jim Stokoe - Nothing Doing (from Autumn Term 1986)
3 (Clock). James Aldenham (aka Brian Bennett) - Waiting For Summer - 60 second edit (from Summer Term 1986 - fortunately they had a 60 second edit to hand already as this was the 9.28am interval track that term)

Very apt that Schools programmes finished on ITV on their 30th Anniversary and then moving to Channel 4 later that year for the new term in September 1987 by then Channel 4’s coverage was up to virtually ITV so the Time was right to move to their new home on Channel 4

ITV should NEVER have got rid of the frontcaps.

and schools programmes should have stayed on ITV, because at least that way, Jeremy Kyle would never had happened, which would have been a relief to everyone.

@jx866 Yeah I do too and I've been taping that quite a lot just dont like that "timer thing" on the programmes. I have been recording the WW1 and 2 programmes (that were shown on the run up to Rememberance Sunday) and they had bits of period drama in them (like in YTV's How We Used To Live) and the "timer thing" really spoilt the serious mood of the programmes......
