I ran the #113 at the Gold Coast RR for several years in the late 80s/early 90s. I absolutely LOVED running her, and what I wouldn't give for a chance to be at the #148's throttle just once! Those Alco light Pacifics are good engines, built for speed, and also for mixed service. And you're right about the whistle. FEC generally used Nathan 6-chimes on these engines. Also the bells are among the highest-quality and most melodious bronze locomotive bells you'll ever find.
This brings the happiest tears to my eyes this is the FIRST! time since 2017 that Florida my home state has had a steaming iron horse I am absolutely ecstatic and I can’t wait to see her!
It's cool to see how the steam cloud from the whistle interacts with the denser, more humid air! At higher elevations, the whistle steam from locomotives jets farther before condensing (The air can hold more water than it has, so much of the steam stays evaporated after cooling.), whereas here, it doesn't go as far and much more of it condenses much faster!
153 should stay at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum, if anything they should get 113 since I wouldn't want 153 to stray away from the place people associate her with the most!
I really hope they keep this thing for a long time. Come to think of it, steam trains would be a good use for all the ethanol farmers are producing once cars switch to electric.
@@robintheslavewr1513 to be honest, i think 148 might sound better with a southern railway ps4 3 chime long bell, which it did have one when it ran excursions in new jersey in the mid 1970s
Awesome to have a steam engine in revenue service! Now I guess they've pretty much largely replaced the South Central Florida Express name with US Sugar Railroad?
I am sitting in my parent’s car in front of the exact same depot where the train made its debut. I’m guessing it is inside the shed right now. Do you know when it will need be out?
I have to agree with you. There's a photographer that rents helicopters for these excursions for a birds eye view. Fortunately I expect opportunities to chase this train without that noise.
US Sugar: "We restored a steam locomotive"
Railfans: "Nice! for excursions?"
US Sugar: "What? no, we needed another engine to pull sugar cars"
Railfans: "My joy is immeasurable and my day is saved."
Honestly, we need more steam locomotives operating revenue freight

@@isaiahirani6952 thanks Isaiah! Miss seeing ya at the museum!
This is a great video! I've been a steam fan for as long as I can remember; I never can get enough of it.
I love how USSC restored an entire steam locomotive and uses it for freight.
Nice shots and coverage, Tolga.
Thanks, Tim!
Wow, that was awesome! I can't wait to get over there and see her
Thanks!

113 and 153 should be next in line now that they bought back 148 to life!
Don't forget sister locomotive 750 in Duluth, Ga
@@amtraklover that too

Fantastic!! It is truly a great event that a steam engine is brought back to life!!! This is a great video and a great event!!
Thanks!
Someday I'll have a chance of driving that train myself
That was really cool!!!!
Beautiful locomotive and awesome video my brother wish I could’ve been there with y’all !!!!
MICHAEL THORNTON Thanks Michael!! Wish u were there brother
TolgaEastCoast one day we will meet trackside lol
I didn’t know it was powered by vegetable oil! Lol that just made my day!
A Most EXCELLENTLY produced and narrated Video by THE TURK™ WELL DONE BRICK!!
Thank you GATOR!
Does anyone hear the whistle at
5:47 - 5:55, it sounds like a mix between the whistle of polar express and Sierra railway #3's whistle
Tyler Green interesting
That's because both Sierra Railway #3 and the Polar Express whistle are one in the same.
Yeah it does like Sierra Railroad 3 and the Polar Express altogether!
Polar express wears a brass 3 chime most likely a Baldwin brass round-up 3 chime

nice locomotive!! Great video!
Thanks!
@@TolgaEastCoast you're welcome
Nice footage! Would love to come down that way when they start the excursions.
csxnstrainman thanks! Hopefully sooner than later.

Joe Tarantine thanks! I don't know the full deal but the branding has been USSC since 2012. SCFE still operates per diem trains and the Bryant Turn.
@@TolgaEastCoast I think the crew on the cane trains is US Sugar's or are they referred to as SCFE?
Great video tolga!
Thanks!
Her whistle sounds like the 3 chime used on the Polar express
Excellent!!!!
Thanks!
Belle vidéo j adore les trains amerquain
Reminds me of when Puerto Rico had steamers for sugar cane industry
Hmm. INTERESTING.
Does anyone know if there is an HO scale of the #148 in its rebuilt configuration? I've seen 4-6-2's but they don't look the same.
I am sitting in my parent’s car in front of the exact same depot where the train made its debut. I’m guessing it is inside the shed right now. Do you know when it will need be out?
I don't know, there is no set schedule
Wasn’t this steam locomotive from the BR&W Railroad ? ?
It is. BR&W is 148's third owner after FEC and USSC.
The helicopter sound kinda ruins the vidio ....we need to listen to the chuck chuck and hissing of steam

Agree 100% about the helicopter.
The second run should be better. Maybe it won't have that stupid helicopter noise. Great video otherwise :)
Please stop talking
