Gu is a thing in cultivation novels, usually its mainly just poisonous insects or creature. Reverend Insanity takes this idea and dials it up to a 1000. Usually, it's only used by evil sects in stories.
I don't believe that cultivation necessarily needs to have downsides, take POT for exemple, It's said multiple times there that living beings cultivate to eliminate the flaws that exists within themselves to become perfect, so I don't see why it would need to have a downside in this case, for me it's more about what the author intends with it, ya know?
As pro and con in cultivating, Lord of Mysteries probably has the best example, if you can call A Beyonder System a cultivation system. Each path has unique danger to it and each has its own pro and cons. Overall, a truly balance power system in my opinion.
Like if you think about it in case of wang lin it was reversed like the heavens (all seer)was the one that's ended up realising all of it was a part of wang lin dream with collaboration with slaughter lol
This. I just caught up with it and I'm actually experiencing withdrawal symptoms 😂 The MC there is like the perfect antithesis to fang yuan in character. 11/10👌 Had me crying a couple of times 😅 I just can't even find the words to describe how PEAK it is!
No I have been thinking of ideas for a year now and i want to make a novel better than most even if I'm delusional I've been thinking about the cultivation system insights plot laws everything for years it's not even close to being complete I've read so much novels and improving it my way and looking at feedback
Make every character unique have different personalities none of the characters being fodder for the plot everything has a meaning and backstory everything links and not repeating plot
A novel can be lowkey trash and still do as long as it remains entertaining or knows its audience well. To be honest most "good" or decent cultivation novels are bad for 400 chapters and good like maybe 200 or less. Cultivation novels are good, bad, boring, interesting, engaging and peak at the same time, not counting extremely high qualities like Reverend Insanity.
Honestly even Reverend Insanity had its lesser moments, at least in my opinion. Basically after every major arc concludes there was this down time period where FY loses cultivation and/or has to hide and build up strength. But it might have been the better writing decision for the sake of the story over action.
brain rot path counters wisdom path

When Wang lin decide to cultivate both the Ancient and Celestial paths with his clones separately that was fire.

How heaven is handled in reverend insanity is fantastic, just you wait till you get back into the immortal realms

I'm trying to make a cultivation novel as a westerner
make brainrot

I don't want to make trash I want to make stuff people can actually get inspired from
Make every character unique have different personalities none of the characters being fodder for the plot everything has a meaning and backstory everything links and not repeating plot
And I want it to have a big scale kinda like desolate era but that makes it even more difficult
Have you tried "the strongest form the Mental Asylum"?Have you tasted Peak?)
actually cultivation is more taoist based than buddhist
