    Hey, @AntsCanada, you're way more of an ant expert than I will ever be, but I thought of something while watching and wanted to share my idea all the same. Perhaps along with the wood base, you could add some sawdust/wood shavings or a little bit of soil for the ants to move around as they would like? My idea is that they would be able to control the moisture levels of the various chambers themselves with a resource like that. Until the wood becomes soft/rotted enough for them to be able to chew into it. As you pointed out, the moisture level inside is really high, and I just worry that it could cause a bad mold infestation to break out. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment! I love the channel, ant love forever!!

      @@dukeofthedance8062 Bro, it's still there, it only dissappears for your 'session' if you report it. Log out and in again, or just look for the comment from someone else's phone/tablet/computer, it will still be there. Google just made it look like your report gets it removed to satisfy all the low-iq people falsely mass reporting stuff.
      As for how I know it's a bot or just a spammer, the comment literally spams a bunch of useless 'keywords', while using sexual language in the link itself to get vulnerable people to click on it.
      It breaks RUclips's TOS in multiple ways; just off of my head, some of the rules being violated are those that prohibit spamming the same thing on multiple comments, using comments for advertising, linking to unsafe off-site pages, promoting sexual or pornographic content, and using scrips/bots to post multiple comments for you.
      If you follow a few popular RUclipsrs and watch their videos fairly early after they post them, you'll even see multiple different accounts post the exact same spam, which is a clear indication of bots having to use new accounts as their previous accounts get banned.
      One last thing, you don't have to worry about your report doing damage to some legitimate person. It takes a *lot* of different people to report a comment or account to even flag it as being 'suspicious', but only RUclips can see that flag. If RUclips's automatic systems are at all unsure if the reported comment is in violation of their TOS or not, then it will be forwarded to a real human employee to read and compare with the other masses of spam currently in circulation. They then ultimately decide if the comment should be removed or not.
      On the other hand, the sooner more people flag these comments, the sooner RUclips can take action and possibly prevent gullable children from clicking on some scetchy link that installs a virus on their device in the background, just because they think it will show them sexy/pornographic content.

      i think the red film is just to keep the inside of the nest dark, someone correct me if im wrong lol

    • @mortlet5180
      @mortlet5180 2 года назад +1

      It's mostly a myth and even if it wasn't, the red filter is only on the outer cylindrical surface of their enclosure. Light can still shine in from the top or bottom surfaces and through the inner cylindrical surface, as can be seen around 10:47 and also when he removes the outer red film at 15:12. The frosted top inner surfaces seems to be particularly effective in redirecting downward light, from the ceiling, in all directions. Although the solid wood core should block most of the light coming from above, the nest still seems to be well lit when looking, through the chambers, at the inner cylindrical surface.
      Where this seems to have come from is the fact that *some* ant species are known to not be able to see >620nm light, combined with papers showing many ant species have difficulty *discriminating* between longer wavelength visible light (i.e. reddish, >=600nm) and the slightly shorter yellowish-green to pure yellow light (between 550-580nm), but that does not imply that they can't see red light at all.
      A quick search of the academic literature (you can even just use Google Scholar and you'll find lots of papers on the subject), gives many examples of ant species that react to red light, although many others can indeed not sense red light at all.
      All this means is that you can't know for sure if your ants can see red light, without scientifically testing it yourself; that is, unless you have a 100% positive species ID and also know that exact species has already been documented as having a limited spectral responsivity, ending before 600nm, in the scientific literature.
