    This song, Shiretoko Ryojo (Shiretoko Journey), was released in 1970 or 71. I loved it then, still do. Tokiko Kato sang it beautifully. Written by famed film producer and actor, Hisaya Morishige, it told of the pain of people dispossessed by the loss of the Kuril Islands to Russia following WWII. The Japanese expelled from the Kurils would make the journey to stand on the the remote wind-swept cliffs of the Shiretoko Peninsula, from where they could see their lost homeland.

    is nashiri an older reading of 後? I thought it was generally pronounced ato or ushiro... I had no idea there was another way...
