Charles McCord was the glue that held the Imus radio show together. The "Imus in the Morning" program started going downhill after McCord retired and Imus' wife edged her way into a regular spot on the show promoting her health products and offering her opinions on almost every subject. They might as well called the show "Mrs. Imus in the Morning".
Charles was the heart and soul of the show, and when he retired, Imus resented him for it. Imus only mentioned speaking to him after Fred passed away and in his final shows, Imus claimed Charles retired because Imus wouldn't pay him an extra million. When someone mentioned on air the possibility of inviting Charles on the last show, Imus refused, stated something to the effect of "I'm not going to forget". There's probably more to it, but we'll probably never know.
I agree that Charles Mc Cord was the glue that held the Imus in t he morningleft show together After he left the program started.going downhill Rememment bee Charlea was his sidekick for many years and was very much involved with thek show as far as doing some of the writing. When he le made the annnounce aboutn his. retirement it sought of came as a shock as i thoughtCharles both of them would retire together Listening to the program since Imua returned to WNBC in 1979 i often wondered how Charles did it for so many years without losing it
I love this guy. I know those of you who knock him have your reasons, but he quit. He'd had enough. So you can knock him all you want. Imus with him was a bright spot in an otherwise sucky work day. And he is a brilliant man.
Charles was also the announcer for the Jan Murray Show and I think some other TV daytime shows. "NBC Radio News. I'm Charle McCord." Very talented guy.
in the military I've had to move across country and not able to listen to Imus. Today, I feel at home, knowing I travel to work everyday listening to the show. Thing that irks me, is how Imus never visited Charles at his home. After a 30 year friendship. Nappy Headed Hoes was a travesty. Bernie said it, and Imus chimed in referring to a segment from day before. There was no animosity directed at Rutgers women. It was a subtle compliment, if you follow the segment, on how being tough is a good thing...I caught it live as it happened on TV. Didn't phase me the least when it was said.
We Miss you, Don. Don't Ever Forget that we adore you and your humor, the "green ho" (we should have gotten on your butt for saying that...what happened later probably wouldn't have, if we had, so it's partially our fault for letting that slide. Of course, you probably wouldn't have paid attention! We love you and ALWAYS WILL!!!! We miss Wyatt too...he is soooo cute, and miss Charles, and the rest of the gang.
Charles is an awesome guy miss him too
Very interesting interview with an awesome newsman, sidekick and comedy writer. Imus and McCord had great on air chemistry. A very funny show.
Chuck McCord was a radio icon....miss him
Me too. And now I miss Imus. 😥

Charles and Imus were always great together, they played off each other so well along with Bernie.

Don Imus is one of the ten people I would love to sit down and have a beer with.

Imus will be back in the fall. I really think it could happen...or at least I hope so. Hahaha, I guess I don't know anything.
whos imus?
A bigger bore than Imus which in itself is pretty hard to do.
Imus stinks.
