I’m literally obsessed with your channel. This type of content just didn’t exist on RUclips before you started posting it. Thank you! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Plus, it’s done well! You’re killing it! ❤️
I named my daughter (now 21) Sloane. It is a sassy name and she really lives up to it! I love everything British and especially their preppy classic fashion.
Aw thank you!! I guess the outfit is a bit more 70s with the green and brown combo, rather than the early 80s color palette, but I think it still has a Sloane Ranger vibe 😄
@@FabSakker I'm a big fan of vintage styles. 50's-90's I like things that are different and the green really pops! As a dnd fan I just like anything that has ranger in it 😂
I lived in London at the time of the Sloane Ranger thing and it was definitely satirical. Only middle class aspirants took the book seriously as a how-to manual. The real people would absolutely be seen dead outside West London. Slumming was definitely a thing, just like US Ivy League types would go clubbing in lower Manhattan, and I witnessed the phenomenon of public school boys affecting a working class accent like Guy Ritchie but they were a minority. If there was a moment that kicked off the movement, outside of the Royal Wedding, it was the Brideshead series. But mainly it was just a 180 from 15 years of 60s counterculture and 70s decadence. The Brit equivalent of Generation X was coming of age and distinguishing themselves from the equivalent of the Boomers. Trad was fresh and new, comparatively. Also the people in the photo around 1:30 were not Sloane Rangers, they were more middle class "Garys" and "Sharons." Also, they didn't wear penny loafers (that's a US thing) they all wore Lobbs and Gucci loafers, at least the guys did.
My parents raised me not to talk politics with people, but I saw the video of the iconic American flag Ralph Lauren sweater and yesterday, Biden was announced as president elect so I bought the sweater and I’m gonna wear it for my senior portraits next week so thank u so much for that video! Love ur content!
Oh dear! I was in London in the early 80's and haunted the Laura Ashley shops. And yes, God help me, I owned a sailor suit dress with huge collar. And wore it. In public.
This is a great overview! I had never heard of this substyle before! Also, as a person from Portland, thank you so much for pronouncing Oregon correctly. :D
HaHa, I'm am a Portland native originally so glad to have been in Vancouver 40 years now, what Portland has turned into...😥. My London born husband and I lived there for the first two years of our marriage and I have been to Sloane Square. I was obsessed with Princess Diana when she came on the scene...!
Great video! I already knew about Sloan Ranger style because of Wikipedia 😁. I relate a lot with the SR style: loafers, pleated skirts, vests, these are all things I wear daily. Diana's outfit with the blue shirt at 4:02 is simply perfect! I'm actually building my wardrobe for those kinds of outfits right now. 👍
Oh my gosh thank you so much Patricia!! I've been wanting to make this video for a while but wasn't sure what the "angle" should be, so it's lovely to hear that you like the idea 😄💕🦋
Yes, I totally loved this video. Thanks for making it. I do like that style. Not sure if I will try anything yet, but I will think about it. I already have the loafers. I do like those vests also. I adore your vest too. Another picture I recall seeing of Dianna was a skinny black string tied around the collar of her blouse. It looks so sweet and girlish.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Sherry! The loafers would look fabulous. I am looking at buying a pair myself but I am still tossing up between black, brown or even white ones. I think I know the Diana outfit you are talking about! That would be a great addition to a Sloane Ranger outfit, and so easily achieved too with a simple black tie or ribbon 😄
The mini pleated skirt was never seen in the 1980’s. You have more of an Acadamia vibe. There was a ton of Laura Ashley as well. Could you do a separate video about Laura Ashley clothing?
I’m aware the mini skirt isn’t very 80s but was just working with what I have in my closet ☺️ I would love to do a Laura Ashley video - I’m always on Etsy looking at vintage Laura Ashley pieces!
I hope this means that someone will be compelled to share the handbook on Internet Archive. My info on Sloane fashion came exclusively from dark academia Tumblr blogs and Ultimate Fashion History before the latest season of The Crown.
Someone should totally put the handbook online, I’m sure many people would like to read it. I love UFH!! It is one of my favourite channels here on RUclips and the Facebook group is great. I haven’t watched Amanda’s video on Lady Diana yet but it is on my watch list 🥰
🔴 thank you so much for your video, it brought me inspiration to make my own video about Princess Diana fashion style 🎥🎞 great job, keep going, good luck💚
I’ve heard the term but never knew what a Sloan ranger was. I think I get the appeal of the name Sloan now. I’m a huge name nerd and I never knew the background on that one. Great fashion, thanks for the video, 🤗
Hugh Grants characters friend Tom in 4 Weddings nails Sloan even more for men. The Barbour jacket over a suit at the funeral and the Land Rover Defender were spot on to the look.
I didn't know there was a name for this look. Early P Di definitely had that look. It's putting me in mind of oil cloth coats by Barbour type feel Edit, u literally mentioned the jackets after i typed that ✔️
This was such an enjoyable video. I subbed! I actually have the Warm and Wonderful/Rowing Blazers sheep sweater and I recommend it if you want to be stopped and complimented everywhere you go. 😂❤️
I have actually found they provide core warmth and are nice to layer under jackets without having too much bulk around the arms - perfect for those transitional months! 💕

Oh Kelley!! Thank you! I put a lot of work into my videos, so to hear that you appreciate and enjoy them is just so encouraging! 🥰❤️
Yes, me too! I've been looking for other people who are into 90s Preppy style for over a year now. I'm so glad I found you ❤
I named my daughter (now 21) Sloane. It is a sassy name and she really lives up to it!
I love everything British and especially their preppy classic fashion.
That's lovely that she has really lived up to her name! I feel like Sloane is such a "cool girl" name - I imagine she is unique and stylish! xx
Love this - classic clothes never go out of style. ps. don't forget a strand of pearls and pearl ear studs.
Ooh yes pearls definitely complete the Sloane Ranger look! 😄
Exactly! Why buy new clothes every year if you can just wear the same stuff for decades? It is also a very sustainable style 😉
@Ian Rowen Why did you hack her instragram? That’s kinda weird
i adore Princess Diana’s pie crust collar blouses/shirts.
Yes! So cute, especially when she added a thin black ribbon tie 😍
I'm just going to say it. You're an absolute master at color blocking the green really pops on you! Princess Diana was amazing to!
Aw thank you!! I guess the outfit is a bit more 70s with the green and brown combo, rather than the early 80s color palette, but I think it still has a Sloane Ranger vibe 😄

Ahhh that is so awesome to hear! You are going to look so suave in your senior portraits, it's going to be such a cool look!
Oh dear! I was in London in the early 80's and haunted the Laura Ashley shops. And yes, God help me, I owned a sailor suit dress with huge collar. And wore it. In public.
I was just looking online at vintage Laura Ashley dresses - with the sailor collars too 😂 I think they need to make a comeback!!
I remember getting W & seeing all the girls at UVA games wearing them.
The tern Sloane ranger was creater by a Tattler magazine editor in the early 1980s, and it's a pun on Lone Ranger.
Named after Sloan Square in Chelsea. The Sloane Ranger Handbook was a blast.
I am really digging statement collars
I am loving them too! I've always had an affinity for collars so I love that they are now such a big trend! 💕
Ok, I don't know how you don't have a million subscribers yet. Your channel is just a great find! Thank you for making these videos!!
Ademi!! Stopppp lol you are too sweet! ❤️ I appreciate you saying that so much! So glad you’ve found my channel lovely xx

Thinking of adapting this style just bc it matches my name 🤔 never heard of this until recently
😱 Omg Sloan! This HAS to be your style lol
@@FabSakker I think so too!

Great video, been looking into the sloane ranger style it's so strange n very interesting!
Yes it's a very interesting style! I like that it's a bit ambiguous
love this vintage look, it’s soo cute! also, I’ve been loving your channel, keep it up!
Aw thank you so much for the encouragement Valeria! It means a lot xxx 💕😄✨

Would be most grateful. Had it. Someone brought I back from England for me. Long gone now 😞
This outfit is perfect. Omg I love it!
Brit slang is always more fierce than ours…we’d term this “ivy league prep” - Sloane Ranger is way better 😎

I am such a name nerd too! I legit have lists of names I love in my notes app lol The name Sloane would be very cute and such a fun connection!
Hugh Grants characters friend Tom in 4 Weddings nails Sloan even more for men. The Barbour jacket over a suit at the funeral and the Land Rover Defender were spot on to the look.
Ooh yes Tom had major sloane ranger vibes! 😄
I love this style because it's very wearable in Dutch climate
Oh that's perfect! It's a great style to feel fashionable but still weather appropriate 💕

They just released pink, green and baby blue sheep sweaters, and let me tell you I am sooooo tempted to get one! 🙊
You convinced me to sub.
omg blast from the past lol
A+ great video
Thank you so much! 💕😄
Bonobos is another brand that gives me that vibe
I like this 80s look too!
This is the sort of 80s look I can get behind... not so much the fluro! 🙈
@@FabSakker I’m 52, so I was a teenager in the 80s. I was mostly preppy, but in some pictures, I think, “What was I thinking?!?!”
Invest in vests 😍🤩👍👍
Lol! Makes me think of Mr Burns... see my VEST 😂
Is there a difference, other than geography, between this and preppy?
👌
The British have tht snootiness down pat.
I think sweater vests defeat the purpose of a sweater: to provide warmth.
I have actually found they provide core warmth and are nice to layer under jackets without having too much bulk around the arms - perfect for those transitional months! 💕
They do without being overbearing. Also they're great layers under blazers.
I like them for color more than warmth.
With a bit of luck more brains. They leave city at weekend to countryhouses.
We call your vests tank tops
