This was a great story. I’d be curious to hear more about the infrastructure differences between Westside/Eastside and Watts gangs, that created different reactions to peace movements.
Watts already had entrenched Nonprofit Organizations on the ground that specialized in Gang intervention. It was easier to pull 3 local projects together. The Westside Gangs are bigger and heavier on set tripping, having laundry lists of enemies. Where Watts gangs had 2 or 3 main rivalries a piece.. Sixtys & Hoovers are the most hated gangs with tons of enemies all over L.A County and done a lot of damage to enemy sets. Difficult to squash all those conflicts with those guys. The Westside has these alliances that run deep. N/Hoods & Rollin 0s, Hoovers and loose nit collective of Gangster Crips.... At the time, if u beef with the 60s or cant peace with 60s, you have 10 other gangs backing their play. And I want to say, their was a lot of Wars and new beefs that kicked off right before the Riots, so once the Police broke up most of the Peace Events and Enemy sets didn't get time to get fulling acquainted with eachother, shit gradually went back to Pre-Riot conditions. Watts had Politicians & organizations supporting them with programs, resources & finances long into 1993 and beyond... Westside didn't have none off that. Watts is considered the true Ghetto of L.A and gets extras attention when it comes to poverty programs dating back to the Watts Riots of 1965.
