- Опубликовано: 4 ноя 2019
- The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is designed to complete critical close-to-shore missions, including surface, mine countermeasure and anti-submarine warfare missions. LCS offers the perfect recipe for speed to capability because of its modularity, open architecture and common U.S. Navy systems. Learn More: lmt.co/2WK7das

Freedom-class's structural problems don't necessarily make it a failure, they just have to overcome those. Their size are tailor-made for cramped waters like SEAS, East Asian Sea, Hormuz, & so on. They just to be configured on those missions
When are these available for civilian purchase please?
LOL
Seconded. I don't need any of the weapon systems. I just want to intimidate all the other fisherman I encounter.
Right to bear arms.
Pooties MahGooties i dont think you can buy it with the weapons, computer systems or armor, since you could steal the secrets of it....
But i do know that you can buy old warships without their weapons!
My ancestors actually owned a trade ship during the war of 1812. He added cannons and was allowed to keep anything he took off the British.
So at one point in American history private citizens DID own war ships.
directed energy weapons..... this is so cool to see this evolution.
@TheTimeTraveler2025 yea but it sounds way cooler in this context
@TheTimeTraveler2025 Yes but they've spent most of their time in blueprint and testing phases. Railguns and lasers haven't been mass deployed yet
Awesome! The one that buzzed Laguna Beach a couple years ago was cool.
Excellent film footage and commentary.
That was a great analogy.
it has so many issues and flaws.
navy is already trying to get a frigate to do what the lcs is being marketed to do
Yea..
That's well and good but how do I place an order?
As a Russian I admire your incredible progress with the Aegis ships, the Virginia class and the nuclear carriers, but judging on the LCS it seems like we are still better at building corvettes and frigates
I agree, the Russians build very good subs.
And European states such as Spain Italy Turkey Netherlands Germany are better than Russia in building frigates and corvettes
@@TheBlackHeart1903 Russian corvettes and frigates have now filled the gap in electronics, and overally boast better survivability and firepower
@@TheBlackHeart1903 Which corvettes are better than the karakurt class? Tell me
Well I'd say the need for the new Constellation class Frigates indicate that LCS is failed.
So it's a high tech next gen Modular frigate. That's all they had to say
It's failed tech, nowhere close to be a Corvete more so a frigate... It's just a failed project. They are too small and too little weapons, to call this a Frigate, not even close.
Good job
a 3.500t frigate size ship undergunned and armed like fast attack craft or Corvette! this ship need SSM, VLS, second main radar, 2 medium cal guns and hull sonar!
So Cool ! :D ♥
Awesome.

Whys it have all the structural cracks when you crank them up to speed and they are always broke down

Ask NASA
So basically .....the NAVY ....wanted a competition between two hull configurations.....competition means....one design eventually wins.....in this case....the NAVY dropped the competition...and continued authorizing both hull configurations.....that means two different training programs.....it also means.....two different sets of spare parts must be maintained.....that just increases the overall cost.....
But hasn't that always been US military doctrine?
Bradley - Is it a troop transport, scout or tank? The answer is yes, but it has no armour.
F35 is it a strike fighter, close air support or superiority fighter? the answer is yes but it's shit at all the jobs it does and it's maintenance is a pain.
LCS - is it a Destroyer or a cruiser? it's a jack of all trades with the size of a frigate and no idea what it's meant to be
This is why you need specialist vehicles in any military. The moment you try to make jack of all trades vehicles, you cut corners and fuck up
Except your wrong about all of these pieces of equipment, the Bradley is a scout/infantry fighting vehicle that has access to armor packages that make it reasonably protected against most threats, F35 is a strike fighter that can do close air support with standoff weapons and use it's stealth and sensors to fight other air craft and it's actually pretty good at both jobs, and finally LCS is a multi purpose small combatant that is not a destroyer or cruiser, it's more like a corvette really but a hell of a lot more useful than most other corvettes.
when Cyberpunk 2077 comes true, Lockheed will be where I'm at. Top notch
Is the Greek Navy about to put an order of 4 Freedom ships + two this week? Can anyone confirm ?? To replace the Elli class (Type: Kortenaer)
4+2 Greek Navy to acquire >>> US Navy Decommissioned in 2023, on hold for potential foreign military sale >> Freedom-class: LCS-5 Milwaukee, LCS-7 Detroit, LCS-9 Little Rock, LCS-11 Sioux City ?
I think they're going to need a bigger gun. It's the shallow draft that sets it apart. Other than that, they all look the same except for Zumwalt's weird backended double turret design.
6 November 2020; USS Detroit (LCS-7) just blew out her engines and lost all power while conducting routine transit near Port Canaveral. Maneuvering, combat, internal lighting, etc. All gone.
What a gigantic waste of funding and effort for an overbudget and design-crept frigate class.
At least the F-35 is more than worth the price tag for both R&D and production.
Did they ever get these ships to stop breaking down all the time?
One hit knock out
Hooyah!
Semper Fortis
Merica!!
How speed?
The upgrade America has been waiting for; twenty years late!
No Wait?! Is it true that their waterjet propulsion systems have a tendency of failing and shutting down randomly during cruise, leaving the ship adrift in the middle of the ocean?! That's has been circulating around preventing various other countries from buying them!
Nice 🥰
Why are there two classes of LCS?
One is steel Hull made up north, one is aluminum made in Mobile Alabama
Apparently to foster competition for a better end product.
For a while I was under the (false) impression that one was an ASW platform and the other was an air defense/close-in defense platform, but the mission-module capability (which never turned out) apparently obliterated that concept. Both classes are multimission platforms, both serve same roles... and both are equally trashcanned by the old OHPs in almost all categories.
LockMart has a good product with the F-35. To be honest and fair, LM ought to stick to that and leave boats alone, outside of F-35C production.
Damn.. what if these LCS will haunt the seas by packs... Will LCS be the U-Boat of WWII whereby disrupting the Trans-Atlantic crossing of goods and supplies?
and like smart phones that have exploding batteries the engines of lcs explode too? good way to make more and sell more
I did my part building that LCS
So what class of ship is it even suppose to be? Because it looks like it's just a high tech modular frigate
@@phantomwraith1984 it's more for getting places fast, wrecking everything an hauling ass. It can't take a hit, it's to thin. A 22. will make it threw the hull. But damn did it have some fire power. Guns that wouldn't let anything get close to it
@@phantomwraith1984 light frigate, build is more corvette style as well as speed but size and displacement make it a frigate as do aviation and sensors and defensive capabilities. With the OTH missiles being added they gain more frigate like strike capabilities but still lack any major anti-air solutions for the time.
So is it true that their water-jets propulsion system has a tendency of failing and shutting down randomly during cruise, leaving the ship stranded in the middle of the ocean?!
@@alxxz it has gas turbines but they don't always run. It primarily runs on the giant turbo diesels. And all boats break at times, that's why the sea trials happen after the build. Give her hell!
It can't take a hit but with it's capabilities it doesn't need to. It's purpose built. It's badass really. Like a big jet ski that will chase your ass down lol
So it's a corvette?
Ewan Bennett basically yes ..its a small surface combatant, which basically every Navy needs, even a blue water giant like the USN .. even if this one might be a tad underarmed perhaps ..though getting better ..

Хороший корвет!
The LCS needs some better weaponry. Lockheed claims they can put a 8 cell strike length Mk41 as a module and that seems quite needed as a combat ship. I think adding one of the new lightweight Italian 76mms would also add much to these ships. Anything is better than those pathetic 30mms
Joshua Ngau Ajang They Are fundamentally an inferior weapon to many other options;
They have low rate if fire and elevation meaning they cannot effectively engage aerial targets.
There effective range is lower than would be preferable (IMO) against the kind of threats it is designed to face.
They are too weak to be used against many kinds of land targets
A 30mm CIWS like an AK630 would be fine, but in its current state it I do not believe it is near a good enough weapon compared to what could be done
Why did the NAVY continue building two different hull configurations....they should stayed with the Lockheed Martin mono hull configuration....the Austral triple hull configuration....was not needed
Cool ship but I don't think it can survive much in combat.
It’s not designed to be in pier to pier combat. It’s more to free up space in the Middle East and Europe so the big boys can go to the pacific.
But still at a Battle Rating of 3.7

Uau!!!
how do you think of these its genius
Clifton Redden The Big Red Dog RIP
Need to start building these correctly ... i mean ive got no problem making 10s of thousands of dollars replacing materials and failed systems on these ships time and time again but damn . Has one of these even been actively used or deployed yet??
yes... bought by the saudies.
These are the same LCSs that are in desperate need of being upgunned and are redisignated as Fast Frigates, yes?
Indeed. It's very fast, very maneuverable, and has potential, but it barely has any effective weaponry, especially this class of LCS. Just a 5-inch gun? It needs more than that.
Last Strike Mapping well actually tho thts the same size gun as onboard the Arleigh Burkes ,and the Ticos, tho the Ticos have 2 ..so not Too bad
@@mikeneufield5499 I know. The gun is powerful and can fire very efficiently, but it's not as effective as a missile, and anti-ship missiles are what the LCS classes need.
Last Strike Mapping yeah, true ..I think they're getting or have some LOS type missiles, or some of them do, so at least , something..tho a quad or 2 of Harpoons would be ,much, better . I dont know why they don't, really.. even the Cyclone class fast patrol boats have Harpoons,I think
@@mikeneufield5499 Yeah. I think Lockheed Martin should stick to aircraft manufacturing because they didn't even put a VLS on the Freedom-class LCS

Next time you see a 6 year old thank them for buying us this new ship.
America is 22 trillion in debt. We borrowed to buy this.
It is a beautiful ship though. Lockheed did a good job. Much more practical than the Zumwalt.
that's great and all, but let's not feature-creep these vessels. We need to keep them operationally affordable for close-in combat and coastal law enforcement
Well I think that's the point of the emphasis on reconfigurable space in its design, as they described. That way they can sell them to both the navy, who have the budget to spare for all the bells and whistles, and to the coast guard, who probably don't need over the horizon missiles and directed energy weapons. As well, again in theory, this feature should allow them to more easily re-outfit existing ships if the needs of the navy change in the future rather than have to manufacture new ones in different configurations.
@@maxk4324 You actually bring up super good points; and I'll have to agree.
Hello from Ukraine
As usual Lockheed, once again, pocketed 30 billion dollars over a period of over two decades for a ship that hardly qualifies as warship. It took the Navy nearly two decades to realize that this lemon had failed. In 2014 the acquisition from 55 copies was cut to 32. The Lockheed Sr Manager does an incredible job to convince that this ship is like no other. The LCS is like a Smartphone ... give me a break, Lockheed. It's outrageous to have big defense corporation stealing out money.
Not as good as a frigate. Too many problems and overruns.. They look neat, though.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they're decommissioned...
The pieces of work... Not much firepower... 80 engineering casualty.. Can't fulfill one deployment

The LCS is weaker compared to Russian corvettes. It is a good platform but weak in weaponry.
You should compare to European counterparts not to Russian ships which are inferior.
Modularity on LCS has failed, what are you guys talking about? As it stands, the LCS is toothless and defenseless. And yes, you are putting ASM on top of the ship as a bolt-on, breaking the stealth which was in the ship's design. The entire program is a horrible failure from the bang-for-the-buck standpoint as well as modularity engineering.
No?
@User Name Oh no, they did. Read the DOT&E if you don't believe me. Modularity failed spectacularly.

Finally, www.popularmechanics.com/military/navy-ships/news/a27258/navy-looking-for-a-new-frigate-replace-littoral-combat-ship/
"The Littoral Combat Ship program has been a disappointing failure. The ships have proven unreliable, with several high profile breakdowns at sea. The vaunted mission modules often turned out to be vaporware, and even after more than ten years of development, few if any actually deployed to the fleet."
LM should give the US taxpayer a refund for this debacle of a program. Little Crappy Ship!
LCS great for drug runners and pirates, no chance against PLA Navy
They aren't even good for that their range is nothing
At this point, the only thing the Freedom class would be good for is to throw EMCON to the wind and scream on all frequencies. Make as large of a fuss as possible, maybe draw in a few vampires that could otherwise hit something combat-effective like a Burke or a carrier.
EDIT: Even the Coast Guard doesn't want them; they don't have the effective range to be *cutters* ffs.
