Dear Kartikeyan:
You did a great job on the tank and the hide. I really appreciate the black substrate and live plants. I never had much success growing plants in compacted balls of volcanic ash (Fluval Stratum). I’ve found that coal dust over compost works better. It's easier to plant rooted species in the dust (much like sand, but black). It also caps the fertilizer, very well, keeping much of the nutrition out of the water column, where algae would love it.
Now that you have a terrific setup, with a nice hide, you might add a fish that will really appreciate the cover, such as an ancistrus.
Thank you for sharing your, awesome work with us on RUclips.
All my best,
Sincerely,
E. J. Brinegar
Thank you for the visit... In this tank, something I want to do with shrimps... I have ordered today. Stay tuned. 🤝🤝
Dear Kartikeyan:
Yes, after some thought, I do believe the tank is too small for an ancistrus.
What species of shrimp do you intend to stock?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Brinegar
@@ejbrinegar I have ordered blue and yellow shrimps... What you think, can they produce green shrimp??? If yes. This will be mind blowing for me.
Dear Kartikeyan:
If you ordered blue and yellow shrimp, I would suspect they are Neocaridina davidi. These are most commonly select-bred for a red coloration and called “cherry shrimp.”
I’m no geneticist, but I do believe it would be easier to start with wild-type Neocaridina davidi, which are quite drab in coloration, if you want to select-breed them to come out green. But, mixing shrimp of the primary colors blue and yellow would not produce green shrimp, as would mixing blue and yellow paint. I believe it best to keep each, color shrimp separate in their own tank, as cross-breeding the variants would only produce unsightly “mutts.”
If you want green shrimp, the easiest thing is to order them. However, I’ve heard that particular variant is quite rare and would likely be very expensive.
I look forward to seeing your, shrimp set-up(s).
Sincerely,
Brinegar
@@ejbrinegar good info, but I have not brought them for breeding purpose. However I know in optimum condition they eventually breed even if I not intent to. Thank you for clarity. I also believe (as of now) this is not possible to produce green out of blues and yellows. Let's see. ..
Looks the same of Igloo tank by Foo The Flowerhorn but overall it looks great 😃
