The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Frederick Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Church & Conference Center in Dallas, Texas
Thank you!
Perhaps Dr. King’s dream did come true. I am a white man and a Catholic, Jesuit educated. I am in recovery from addiction. A lot of people in recovery talk about the importance of faith in God during the process. I had no faith, honestly very resentful and angry with God. For some reason, I began to study Dr. King. During a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, we were discussing the problem of self-centeredness as it relates to addiction. When it was my turn to share, I referenced Dr. King and his “Drum Major Instinct” sermon. I have referenced him more than once. Almost 60 year later, his truth is marching on in places one would never anticipate or expect. I do believe in the truth of his ideology and philosophy. I admire his faith. Strangely, my daughter’s birthday is April 4th, the same day Dr. King was assassinated.
Title is different from what is in the video. Silly
