I would like to join but the Canadian exchange is outrageous.
You vids always educate me, or save money, or both. Or, you show nifty techniques and I just gotta try it - yet another project. 🤣
Hey Jane, I tried to purchase your masterclass, but my card wouldn't go through, and I had to go to my credit union to get a new # bc my bank thinks this is a fraudulent purchase. This class is legit, correct?
My home depot price for this wire is $19.00?
Port Saint Lucie, Florida
Definitely valuable. I found this to be true at the HD near me too. But every once in a while there are products on Amazon that are substantially higher than what's sold at HD or Lowes. For example: plastic storage containers and plastic spray bottles.
What I love about her is she speaks very clearly and doesn’t take any instruction for granted.
I'm retired from a 50 year career in construction. I love Jane's channel. She's practical and good at what she teaches. HD has higher prices for one basic reason. THEFT! Big box stores are being robbed blind and ALL of us pay for it.
Locking up high value items is a good first effort, but they need to do more. Why is there no visible deterrence? Every time I see a "smash and grab", it incenses me. They can't have it both ways...complain about theft, not hire visible security, and then continue to raise prices to offset the loss. Police officers (in Florida) have full arrest powers while working an off-duty job.
Never forget the LOCAL hardware store. Home Depot might beat their prices, but they might not.
Probably better service too
As if I had a local hardware store. It's Lowes or Home Depot
Ace USED to be good. Still are not that bad for a few specific screws.
I use Ace as much as possible. I lost my go to Ace last year. My new (to me) Ace is just a half mile further.
@@DocXango Yep. I live in a suburb of about 60k people. There's Lowes and Home Depot and that's it for building materials. For tools there's a Harbor Freight and a Northern Tool, at least. Years ago there was an ACE but it disappeared and the next closest one is a 19 mile round trip through really, really heavy traffic.
HD takes advantage of people who need things immediately
contractors goto actual electrical supply stores, Plumbing stores, A/C supply stores, lumber stores ...
home depot made a mint on the housing flippers their are 21 Home Depots within 16 mile radius from my house ,
You and Scotty Kilmer have to be the most honest and fair channels on RUclips. I wish you continued success!
Scotty's the king of clickbait
Kilmer is clickbait artist. Leah is much better.
I'll agree with you when it comes to Leah, but Scotty Kilmer is a hack. Source: every ACTUAL mechanic on the planet.
...and she does it without being in constant "conductor" mode...
Curious as to why my comment about Kilmer was deleted. Did someone get butthurt over the truth? I guess it's okay to point out his clickbait, but you can't call a "h a c k" a "h a c k."
I totally agree with you. But the bigger problem is if we all start buying from Amazon that $9 price is it going to go to $50. And there won't be a home Depot.
I’m okay with that. HD can go away.
@@BlueBike586 What he means is, no competition, higher prices.
That's how a market economy works and also why Amazon & Wal-Mart are so successful. If it goes to $50 then another will sell for $40. Competition is good for the economy and end user.
@@seanmiley6294 Until the "another" is no longer around because the "successful" Amazons and Walmarts of the world have demolished competition through economies of scale, automation, government subsidies, etc. That's NOT how healthy markets function because then markets effectively cease to exist.
Exactly, and we need to support the mom & pop shops as much as we can.
Careful buying wire online. They often pass off plated aluminum wire for solid copper.
Buy the U.S. brands like Southwire, etc.
Many brass items from China are plated ZAMAK metal.
Thanks for the heads up
You could tell plated aluminum by the feel of it. Aluminum is way lighter than copper. Also, just clip off a piece and you'd see a silver colored interior.
Don't forget, you can also go to your local electrical supply house and get wire there as well, same with plumbing supply house
What I LOVE about this show is I don’t hear “I was like….” and “He was like…” like I hear from almost every RUclips presenter nowadays. “”I said…” and “He said….” Is soooooo great to hear and digest!!! (I know, it’s the small things in life.)
You mean she talks like a grown-up.
Y E S !
Leah, I repeat your words to myself ALL the time, "I can DO this!" No matter what I'm doing. ❤❤❤ thank you for the encouragement!
You’ve given the formula as to why so many small to possibly now large businesses close and file bankruptcy. I will continue to support brick and mortar stores and the jobs they provide to the community.
That's not really the case with the big box stores though. Real life stores are great, when they're run by community members and I know my money is going into the pockets of people around me. But, Home Depot and Lowes might as well just be amazon drop shippers at this point.
As a former local business owner, thank you! ❤
That's why they are called the BIG BUCKS chains
And Amazon is not in it for the money?
The larger issue may be that theft is so out of control at the hardware stores that it gets priced in. It would take juries to clear employees of any liability if they decide to take out shoplifters.
Brick and mortar stores have overhead that online stores don’t have. If those physical stores disappear, we no longer will be able to look at items and compare quality. Pictures might be great but being able to pick up the item and inspect it carefully can aid your decision.
you do know it's 'big BOX' stores?
Oh, Leah, you've helped me SO much. I'm rehabbing a home. When a plumber told me 300.00 to replace one outside faucet and shut off valve, I replaced 2 for under 50.00, thanks to your expert instructions and confidence building "you can DO this". I also replaced 2 bathroom faucets and shut off valves. Because I saved so much by installing it myself, I could buy the higher quality, abit more expensive setups. Thanks again!
--- Same thing happen to me. I saved a lot by doing the work myself.
Good for you. It's pretty difficult to shop brick and mortar when prices are so high locally.
Check whether the cable you get is actually solid copper and not copper-clad aluminium. Strip the insulation off and hold a length of bare wire in a lighter flame; if it glows orange then it's solid copper, but if it burns and shrivels away to nothing it's aluminium. A magnet test for steel wire would be a good idea too.
I know the prices are way too high in Home Depot. Amazon or some stores also have cheap quality products, and fake labeled products. I would go to Electrical shops, where the electricians buy. They are cheap, and the same quality or sometimes better.
Go to your local electrical supply store. Actually bought a 15 foot roll of 14/2 today for a little project I am doing at home at Eckart supply, $6.88 after taxes. Was only $117-ish for a 250 foot roll.
In the last month, I've bought 14/2 and 12/2 Romex on Amazon as well as a variety of switches, cover plates, and sockets. The only thing cheaper at HD than Amazon was work boxes. I'm glad you're sharing your experiences.
Amazon needs to be boycotted..if you disagree, go work for the evil.empire.
Love her! What a woman and what a voice!
I've seen thieves walk right past the cashier with big buck items numerous times. We're paying for it.
Also, how many third party sellers acquired their products by nefarious means? Always appreciate your great skills and knowledge.
It’s a crime, no pun. Good comment!
Do they still have cashiers??? At the one I go to, they only have one. It is self checkout for everything else because they are too cheap to pay employees.
The real thieves are in the boardroom. Corporate profits and corporate greed are at an all time high. That's the real reason prices are ridiculous.
There is a serious issue with stolen good being fenced through Amazon
People gotta eat
Copper is always cheaper in bulk. I can get 250ft of 14-2 for $90 at its highest it was $120. 50ft is $75 to $90 you get the point never pays to get small rolls of wire period even if you sell it later. Copper pipe is the same way we pay $20 for 20ft 1/2 pipe if we but 10 or more at a point iys cheaper to buy more. Look at local supply house too! My electrical supply house will sell romex by the foor for $1.62 a foot for 14-3 so think outside the orange or blue big box store.
Amazon doesn’t have people walking out with cart loads of merchandise on a regular basis like retail stores do. I work for Lowe’s and you would be shocked at how much is stolen and how lenient the courts are on these thieves so of course the stores are making up the loss by charging more. 44.00 for 15’ of 14/2 Romex is crazy, it 20.00 at lowes
It's 14/3 and btw you .are good point about people stealing and driving up the price.
@@seejanedrill ahh 14/3, then it’s 44.00 at Lowe’s , buying small quantities is always a lot more per foot , the same wire in a 250 foot roll is only 139.00 lol.
Anyway, thanks for your videos Leah, I really enjoy them!
Lowe's = Blow's.
Worst customer service of any hardware, home wear, tools etc business I shop.
customer service depends in the personnel. My Lowes has good customer service, and Connolly's Do it Best is hands down the best customer service. Very helpful
Lowes doesn't get that much stolen, I literally just worked there and in some stores yes.. it's not the courts that's lenient its the store itself..I know their policies and preventative.. most of it is them.
The problem, though, is that Amazon has become a monopoly. They will drive retail stores out of business. Then where will we be?
Amazon is basically the Sears Roebuck of today. Sears monopolized the market by dictating what they would pay for vendors goods. While Sears didn't exactly drive all of the local hardware stores out of business, their marketing strategy did take business away from them. Amazon won't be the last one to do what they are doing. At some point, even they will succumb to the market.
Some stuff I've purchased on Amazon has come from individuals. You too can be a business on Amazon.
It keeps prices down. It's a good thing
Yes ma'am. You are amazing.
I feel lime that train already left the station. I can't find specific things I need out in town most of the time, and customer service isn't good.
It's price gouging. Not just stores like HD, but everyone is taken complete advantage of the opportunity to jack up prices for their goods or/and services. Canada has gone nuts!
I don't support Amazon strictly because it has eliminated many Mom and Pop businesses. I wouldn't, however, fill Home Depot's pockets.
Thanks for this info, Leah.
Grocery stores have gone nuts with their price gouging, and there's not really an alternative for that.
Yup. Companies are price gouging and redirecting consumer anger by claiming its due to inflation and politicians.
It's not price gouging, the Dollar has been inflated and this is the result. This is what happens when you print Trillions and give it away to foreign countries and forgive student loans.
Places like Loblaws making record profits and record bonuses have nothing to do with government practices.
@@anthonygiustina um, this isn't monetary inflation, it was supply shock and now it's price gouging. But Thanks For Playing, Donnie, tell him what he's won!
I did the exact same thing. I needed 25’ of wire for new outlets in my shop and saw the prices At Lowe’s and Home Depot and was shocked. Mind you, I had rewired my entire house a few years ago and knew what things cost. So I searched amazon like you did and bout it from then for a third of the cost. Great video for everyone. Thanks for sharing.
This really speaks to being an informed buyer and fortunately for stores a lot of people are not, haha. I check prices before I buy anything but I have been doing it for over a decade. Sometimes I find stuff cheaper at Home Depot compared to Lowe's or Walmart, sometimes its the other way around. I recently replaced my garbage disposal and found it $40 cheaper on Amazon compared to Home Depot. Sometimes things on Amazon can be more expensive than the store. I found a measuring cup 4-5x more expensive on Amazon compared to Walmart. I have noticed that Walmart and Amazon sometimes price things exactly the same down to the penny.
The irony is you're not at all informed about the lack of quality of Amazon items.
not sure if someone pointed it out but from the start of the video to the insert of the amazon clip at 2:42 is almost exact repeat video and audio, minus the very very start of the video showing the store front walking it essentially. just wanted to make sure someone knew, otherwise amazing video as always, Thanks team and thank you Jane for always teaching us about new tools, techniques and info we may never have known or noticed otherwise.
The only issue I see with this advice is it's important to compare like with like. Comparing prices of the exact same product is a no brainer, but it can be tempting to compare a quality, name brand, product like Southwire sold by HD with less expensive no-name brands and think you are getting a better deal. The reality is you are comparing a quality product with a lesser quality one. Depending on the application, sometimes lesser quality is just fine or good enough and sometimes its not. As long as you are comparing more than just the prices then it's great advice.
Not necessarily true. Due to the extreme volume that big box stores do, they can manipulate the price down from manufacturers like Southwire. The only way for Southwire to make their money is to make the product cheaper to a lower quality standard. Yet, they still put their name on it. Go to a professional plumbing supply store and buy any American Standard faucet or shower head, and you will find that that product has brass parts and higher tolerances. Buy the exact same design and model at a Home Depot or Lowe’s and you will find that there are nylon parts inside. This is the reality of retail and manufacturing.
HD sells cheaply made Chinese crap.
@@crismcdonough2804 Just add more volume to your thought. 28% of all things are Chinese made. Just because it is Chinese made doesn't automatically make it crap. Apple products are prime example. The vast majority of electronics components too. My point was that price can and often does indicate quality, brand not necessarily so because of the phenomena of large retailers having so much buying power that they can get variant products made, using cheaper materials, to reach a price point.
I've been an electrician for around 25 years. When I started 250ft of 12/2 romex was around $19.
Lowes is cheaper than Home Depot and Menards is cheaper than lowes.!
I came here for a Menards comment. They're the cheapest, and every single one of them are setup the same way. I could go to one inside of Chicago and go to one in the suburbs, and the exact same layout will be there.
Agreed. I also use a Lowes Credit card for an additional 5% discount at Lowes and after you make enough purchases Lowes provides free shipping on online orders to compete with Amazon.
No there are not sheesh, quit it Lowe's.
I just recently started shopping on Amazon, and have to admit, the prices and service are incredible. Not to mention, the items come to your door, so you don't have to waste time or gas running to HD. Great vid!
I'm retired so I check ALL of them.
Leah, A tip my electrician taught me. He puts a 6" loop inside the wall at each box. When the sheetrock guys hack up the wire with their Rotozip you can then just pull out about 6 more inches of good wire.
The Reason for this is, sadly Amazon controls the prices. Meaning that, Amazon will undersell all products on most websites, or in store items. This forces competitors to make prices higher or go out of business. Amazon controls pretty much the whole pricing market.
Does it?
Lowe's and Home Depot's stock prices are higher than they were before the pandemic. Quite a bit higher.
Wrong. Cite your sources please.
Yessss I just found out there is or is-going-to-be a documentary on Amazon. It features some sellers talking about how they enforce prices that the sellers set across other selling platforms and increase costs to the seller which in turn means increased prices for us customers, etc.
@@savanah1407Funny thing, that’s exactly how HD treats local lumberyards😂
It feels like in the last 15 years, companies went from providing goods for a fair price, to charging as much as possible. It's been accelerated in the last 3 years. I don't mind paying a little more at a store, but there's a limit. Thanks for pointing out the dramatic difference!
They've all switched over to the "maximize quarterly profits even if it's not sustainable" business model. It's all about the stock price.
Don’t forget the government printed a ton of money and devalued the dollar. Remember the minimum wage increases you all supported too. Don’t forget that.
It started with the lockdowns and people paying insane prices for goods. The corporations got a taste of those profits over the years as they left them at the same prices even though the supply increased. A lot of them did it to themselves.
1000% Correct Leah, the big box stores do NOT always have the best prices so it IS important to shop around. Unfortunately, Big Orange and Big Blue just aren't competitive anymore and 1/3 of their store is locked up so It's even more inconvenient... Thanks for putting this out there!
I like to preshop at Home Depot on the app. Check out prices and put it in my cart. Then I go to Home Depot and then I have a list and each item has a location in case I can’t find it. If you shop on the app for pick up, it costs more .. a dollar or more per item. I know because I compare the price on the app “cart” to the on the shelf price. Just so you know.
That is the best solution. I'm going to start doing that for anything I can. That way you know you're getting a fair price and giving preference to local stores. We don't want to get ripped off, but we don't want all the local stores to close either.
Here where I am In Canada at Home Depot, 10 meters (32 feet) of 14-2 Romex is $29.95 Canadian... which comes to $34.44 after tax which converts to $25.29 USD at the current exchange rate. It's a little crazy how much more that cable is there. It's so great that you are helping folks save money. Thank you as always for sharing your wisdom with us
Unfortunately, the brick and mortar stores cost a lot to run.
And a lot of shoplifting that keeps the prices higher
I live in the Sacramento area of California and been remodeling my son's home for the last year and a half and have found that Home Depot it typically lower the same and more on many items compared to Amazon. Typically less or same for materials but more for tools than Amazon. Thank you for education folks that they can do many things themselves.
My guess is they just want you to buy the larger quantities. My local HD is also $44 for 15 feet for 14-3. That's $2.93 per foot. It's $69 for 50 feet. That's $1.38 per foot. Buy 100 feet and it's 97 cents a foot!
I bought much more romex than I needed because the price per foot is so much lower. Once I’m finished with the electrical parts of my renovation I’ll sell the rest.
@@TheMamamarieke Or keep it,
That’s right, I bought 2x2s so I wouldn’t have to cut a 2x4 in half lengthwise and the 2x2s cost as much as a whole 2x4! Won’t do that again.
Typical only get a deal if you buy more than you want or need. Just like when you want to trt and buy 1 of something & it's only sold in multiples! When you only need one!! Force feeding. So sick of it every where!!
They seem to be screwing the homeowner and favouring the big contractor. “Home” Depot - not!
We have an ACE hardware store just 9 or so miles away from Home Depot and Lowes. Their prices are much lower, the service better, and they are a locally owned franchise. I always check Amazon and other discount supply stores first. Good luck getting a real price match from these big box stores! Thank you, beautiful angel, for the heads up! ❤
Office Depot has dramatic price differences between in store and online. They do price match as well.
My boss hates me showing people that! I figure anything I can do to screw his bonus the better. His bonus is based on profit.
This is perhaps the most inane line of reasoning I have ever heard. Screw your boss so he can get less bonus because it based on profit. Yeah buddy, you,re going far in this world. 😂
I'm torn between hoping you become a manager and this happens to you, and hoping you never get to inflict this kind of small-minded, self-centered thinking on your underlings.
And by the way, while you're "denying" your boss a bonus, your kind of thinking puts in jeopardy your job and the jobs of your peers.
So much to be proud of!
This is what the schools have taught.
@bluesky7838 He has cut the spending on basic store supplies. NO soap in the restroom. Won't replace broken equipment. Got rid of the floor crew. Keep the store at uncomfortable temperature. 78 in the summer and 60 in the winter. Would rather I lie to customers in order to get a sale. Especially ink. He is used car salesmen slimy. He does all this dispite us making 120% of sales goal.
He is greedy and making the employees and customers suffer for his bonus.
@bluesky7838 No I just have principles. I won't try to lie, cheat or steal from people in order to make a bigger sale so he can get his bonus.
He got rid of the handicap cart, because it used to much electricity. He said it was a courtesy, not a requirement of the ADA.
Thank you Jane, I do a lot of remodeling myself too, still learning more everyday. Continued strength, knowledge, love and blessings.
Sorry, I thought your name was Jane.
I always cross check between the 2 major ones and online. It's amazing sometimes how big a difference there can be at times.
This is the way.
The overhead of BIG anything stores has gotten out of hand. Frankly, not wasting gas hunting empty shelves has kept me at home and on the internet!
The reason the prices so high is the amount of stealing from these stores is insane . Mite be all the stuff on Amazon was stolen from Home Depot . 🤣
A number of people have mentioned stealing as a problem
People mentioned amazon has a lot of china cheap imitation products so just beware
The excise green taxes that's been added to the shelf price is another reason prices have skyrocketed.
I’m so glad that RUclips has added you back into my suggested videos! I love all of your content.
We’re just getting ready to tackle some home projects. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Jane, as a professional electrical contractor I appreciate that you call it Non-Metallic Sheathed Cable as its defined by the NEC. I buy my NM from Good Friend Electric, Brick, NJ.
Leah, you are a life saver! I wanted 15 feet of 12-2 wire to show my grandsons simple wiring projects. It was $35 at Lowes hardware. I didn't buy it. but will order it from Amazon, which I never thought about before.
All those Amazon prices will soon be the same or even higher than Home Depot. Amazon’s Third party sellers generally buy at discount stores or sales and flip their goods on Amazon.
Perhaps
AMZ is slower to adjust their pricing when prices go up due to a rise in commodity prices. PRobably because they dont sell as much of it.
That’s why I never or very rarely buy from third parties on Amazon. Sold by Amazon shipped by Amazon is what I always look for.
Thanks Leah, good info. This is how we collectively drive prices down. There are always alternatives!
For the last couple of years, I've been buying most of my renovation supplies from Amazon instead of home depot. Amazon is generally cheaper on the product itself and with next day delivery no need to fight traffic and get your car/truck dinged up. I don't think HD is even trying to compete in that space anymore and has instead focused on the "do it for me" crowd - that's why staffing is virtually non-existent. They're really a showroom and lead generation machine these days.
Leah you're simply amazing! I've done so many projects around my home that if it weren't for your step by step videos & encouragement, I'd never probably have attempted them. Bless you for all you do & share with us all. You literally are helping people worldwide. Love ya gal!
Good to know. I was surprised on that wire price difference.
Your channel is so informative and your delivery of content is superb. Thank you for your videos and a reminder than big box is not always the best nor only places to shop from in this day of corporate greed. Keep up the great work!
Home Depot has to provide a brick and mortar store, but above all, has to absorb the cost of theft, which keeps increasing.
If everyone takes your advice, they will likely go out of business.
Something to think about.
Interestingly, showing the locked up wire kind of makes the point.
Not to mention, employees that can help.
home depot didn't care when the mom and pop hardware stores got put under cuz of them
Lowes, pricy thermostats were locked up.
I'm sure there are thousands of displaced mom and pop hardware store owners/employees who will shed a tear.
What are you talking about Home Depot throws away tons of brand new stuff instead of selling it at a loss for write offs , all theft is a write off saves them tons on taxes . They are not going anywhere anytime soon unless it's mismanaged . Remember they are the ones that destroyed all the small guys and why we have less n less choice now and forced to pay what ever they want . They're theft is all written off on taxes.
Thank you Jane! 👍👍😊
Thanks for the heads up
You and I have the same philosophy about shopping and saving money. And for the "gotta-have-it-now" items, I'll buy locally from may neighborhood hardware store (avoiding HD and Lowe's completely). Whether it's "Ace" or "True Value" or "Do-it Best" ... I've found that the level of CUSTOMER SERVICE is exceptional. The ability to get advice and guidance is worth the extra dollar or two. And the shopping experience is faster and more relaxed. I can easily find what I need in a well organized and maintained small hardware store, rather than the cavernous aisles at the big-box store with their cluttered displays (particularly in plumbing). --- Thanks for a great video!
My husband was told by a Lowe’s employee that theft was driving some of the price increases and that’s why they lock the wire up. I don’t know how true it is, at least for the cost. I would think all the overhead of running a physical store would be in part to blame.
And a lot of the stolen goods end up sold by third-parties on Amazon and eBay
This lady is crazy smart .
The Interior Department on Thursday announced a 20-year mining moratorium on 225,000 acres of the Superior National Forest that bars Twin Metals from constructing a proposed copper, cobalt and nickel mine in the area. Price of copper is going through the roof!

That’s because they are screwing over the little guys. I’ve never seen it so bad as in the last year or two. All my life wire prices coincided with scrap copper prices for the most part, not so much now.

They are manipulating the market, and they should be investigated and charged imo.
Metals are a traded commodity, so there should be more scrutiny.

Home Depot operates on a different business model to Amazon. It probably pays their workers better, doesn't rely on massive automated warehouses to hold it's stock instead of funding multiple sites where people can physically shop for what they want. As a matter of principle I avoid shipping through Amazon as much as possible.
HD pay is $15 an hour.
The pay isn't that great. An 8 year employee that is a specialist and trains on all the machines makes slightly more ($2) than some inexperienced order puller.

Thanks, Leah❤
Listen, ALWAYS check with locally-OWNED businesses FIRST. Some of them actually DELIVER, for little or no extra cost in fact! If you get out your trusty calculator and tally up the cost of gas (you’re often driving a TRUCK to these places, right?), plus your TIME (at least an hour or two lost driving and looking for the items you need) when you could be working on the project, it’s often more feasible to order from the locals and have them deliver it. No time lost but a few minutes phone call to give them your list (they can even calculate quantities you need). Locally-owned businesses belong to locals who spend their money locally, employ other locals, and pay local home property taxes that benefit YOUR OWN community. Just a thought. I wish I could take your class…maybe next time!❤
Thanks, I have an electrical project coming up. You saved me lots of money. Love your videos!
I have learned this lately with flooring. I've been amazed at the difference between Amazon and Lowes and Home Depot. So I started checking other things like you did and found so much. Our stores here in the US have all gotten so greedy. I hope we see some changes next year.
Yes, and in addition you can visit your local RE store or habitat for humanity second hand store.
So glad I caught this video. I need some wire and Amazon here I come. Thanks Jane!
I've noticed this as well, Jane. If you have the wherewithal, prepare for your projects ahead of time, order your things online, and you will save. a bundle.
So glad to see you now have over a million subscribers... thanks for the tips...
I live in Colorado and flew home from Florida yesterday. I was somewhere, I think the airport and took a double take, thinking that I'd seen Leah. Now I see this video and that Home Depot looks exactly like the Home Depot in Venice Florida where I have shopped a number of times!
Edit: Nope it's not that one but it looked a lot like it! I just thought it weird that I thought I saw Leah and then this is recommended to me the next day.
I too find Amazon a better deal for most items. But you do have to compare before clicking "proceed to checkout". Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I always enjoy your videos.
What a significant difference in price. Thanks for sharing this info.
Something to keep in mind, if you want to sell on Amazon you sign a contract saying the Amazon price must be the lowest price. This means big brands that sell in brick and mortar stores that also sell on Amazon is forcing physical locations (and other online stores) to sell at the same price at the lowest or higher than Amazon.
I went to home Depot the other day whole a friend was doing a return. I was looking for a Klein Tools 80016 Circuit Breaker Finder tool. I then checked Amazon to find the Klein Tools 80016 Circuit Breaker Finder Tool Kit with Accessories for less than the kits with no accessories at home depot. And free next day shipping. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to the club 🙂I have been shaking my head at wire prices in HD and Lowes for years now. I always check first and will only buy from a big box things I can;t get on Amazon or would cost more.
Thanks, For all of your honesty. You are Great woman. Thanks.
Excellent video with great advice. These days with prices on everything being out of control it's best to plan your purchases ahead and take the time to shop around for the best prices.
I always learn something from you and it’s always enjoyable to watch ur vids. Ty for all you do.
You are correct. Same goes for Lowe's and Ace. I'm remodeling a old house my wife and I bought. I only buy from Amazon. Worth the few days wait.
About two years ago I was in Home Depot one evening just before closing. As I came in the entrance, I was almost run over by a couple pushing a buggy full and heaped over with spools of wire, probably several thousand dollars worth of untraceable copper. Only a couple of employees realized that a heist had occurred. A couple of weeks later the copper wire was locked down behind cages like shown here. So theft is one factor and the big boxes have to compensate for it; it hurts us all. And like others have mentioned, shop your local supply houses where the trades hang out. At least more of the profits benefit your neighbors.
So true I went to Amazon and saved a bunch plus free delivery
At a hardware store you get it right there. And you can ask some questions.
Amazon doesn’t have to have customer-facing employees, also can offer lower prices.
As someone who works retail, you have to consider where some money is paying a local citizen. People will view products in the shop to see what they want, and then shop Amazon, with its occasional questionable business practices. (Before you say there’s a difference between local and big box-there is-but big box also employs local people, so some money does stay local.)
I love your videos and guidance for the public!
I'm a contractor - I have to agree with you 100%...as usual !!! If I have some time before a job comes up , I save TONS of money ordering on Amazon over the big box stores. Some items that really shine on Amazon...Sharkbite type push fittings , chrome and pex valves , filters , electric wire and some water softener parts.
Good luck on your new course! You will nail it!!!
Home Depot, like other stores, is packaging smaller amounts and charging more per package. I recently paid roughly $6.50 incl. tax for 100 steel washers. I mentioned it to the checkout employee who told me they also were suffering from a 28% shrinkage rate due to thefts. Home Depot is not gouging, but just staying alive.
Amazon has been the go to place for me for many years. You can save tons of money, provide lower bids and land more jobs. And if you get a prime account, you get free shipping. Often next day delivery. Pay attention to the coupons in the listings as well.
It’s no wonder you have over one million subscribers, although I seldom learn anything from your videos (I’m a retired building contractor) I still get pleasure watching them.
