these explainers are always so well done. With Pathfinder's large and growing cast of class options, it's great to have the ability to say "what is the point of ___" and have a definitive answer!
Okay, I probably got this wrong, but if you want to play as a Maui, err, I mean Exemplar, you get a divine spark, that comes from finding a tiny shard of a deity, but could also potentially be played as a very diluted divine bloodline, like, you're the nth generation grandchild of a deity, and instead of making you a demigod, you're more like a Primarch from 40k?
@@connormcconnell7805 Actually that's how he became a nephilim- while he and the demon mortally wounded each other, their blood mixed and he got a little demon blood power. Nahoa's exemplar power came from grabbing one of Gorum's sparks during the fight with the demon.
The Exemplar has the exact same flavor as a sorcer who has the cleric spell list. Whatever lore reasoning you use to justify having it works exactly the same for an Exemplar
really hate the flavor they went with on this "so i can play a demigod or descendant of a god?" "absolutely not" "in that case can i use godly powers, like a journey-to-the-west style deity that walks the earth and gets in to scraps but isn't that powerful?" "good lord no, what are you thinking?" "what can i do?" "since you have the divine shard of a gods power, you can have... a magic sword!" thanks, i guess? but anyone can have a magic sword. this hardly feels special at all.
Exemplar can be a CHA-runepriest, a grandchild of a Divine sorcerer, an inventor that crafted some Divine ítems to explore, a witch that broke their pact or a pally of dnd 5e searching his oath, you are free to change its flavor in your tables 🤔🤔
I personally disagree. There is obviously some level of dissonance between the flavor of the class and the actual mechanics because, well, balance- but I do think that the flavor of the class lends itself very well to making a character that feels special and unique. What I enjoy about it is the fact that you're given this access to a very low-level realm of divine power without having to put yourself into that box of 'worshipper'. The Epitaph mechanic also plays into this because it makes it feel like, while you may not *start* as a demi-god level threat, you can 100% grow into one and be this world renown hero that embodies certain aspects like the Gods. This power, the "spark", is entirely yours to do with as you please, free from any edicts or anathemas. If you want to be a God with a capital G that's what Mythic Rules are for- but there's plenty of room within the flavor of this class to turn your character into a Sun Wukong like figure.
I think Thaumaturges and Exemplars would have a LOT to talk about & roleplay during sessions. Thaumaturges are occultist-based monster hunters whose powers of belief & superstition imbues their objects with power. If they believe that salt, powdered silver, brick dust, or cocaine might weaken a monster…or that the monster has a nut allergy…they might sprinkle that substance on their weapon or the creature, and it will become so. Trinkets or lucky charms actually have supernatural properties because the Thaumaturge believes it to be so…and their “implements” are extensions of their belief, too. The Lantern CAN reveal the truth; because it literally sheds light in the darkness…or my Weapon WILL cut true, because the spirit of the warrior who held it still resides within. Stuff like that. Exemplar ikons are just vessels to contain this highly-concentrated, extremely volatile spark of divine power that will go thermonuclear unless it gets plugged into a different object so it can cool off. Like a cell phone battery that’s been sitting in the sun too long; it immediately shuts down when it gets overheated.
You are of course well within your rights to do that, and I'm pretty sure that it being rare means that it is banned by default so your players should be asking permission to play it anyways
@@quinnenstrom4808 that's not quite what the rare tag means. Rare and uncommon tags mean exactly that, they're not seen that often. For instance baba yaga doesn't take in that many witches so she's a rare Patron for witches to have. It's not that she gives overpowered abilities it's just that there's maybe 100 in all of gollarion

I have a feeling that the exemplar guy is gonna start breaking into song about you’re welcome or something.

There's no stopping you from changing the flavor.
Heck the official exemplar harvested his divine spark by killing a giant bird who had one

I love all King Oogatonton videos!
Nice video!
I love thie class
I love that the exemplar dude in this video is just Maui from Moana.
I think it's actually the Iconic. So if you want to side-eye anyone for the similarity, side-eye Paizo.
How many times you had to say "transendence"
If you take the right ikons you become a healer thats not a healer, just like a thaumaturge caster that not a caster
What's that outro music, and amazing vid

Probably because Mythic Rules work better for those examples.
Especially since they have the freedom to use any class.
I think this class is very Sun Wukong like

Idk, feels like just a differently flavored thaumaturge.
And completely mechanically different?

i will ban this class in my games
Why tho? It's just a weird fighter.
My Exemplar has banned you from his game! Take that!
