I went to Nicaragua 5 years after the revolution. It was incredible. There was such a feeling of hope. They were building schools and hospitals, land was distributed to peasants, cooperatives were formed, literacy campaigns were organized...and then war criminal Reagan organized his band of thugs and violated a hots of international laws. This documentary is VERY sad. And so is the legacy of the United States.
I am from Nicaragua, my family was one of the many victims of the "Reforma Agraria" and in one of the many visits of the military killed one of my fathers body guards infront of me when I was 5 yrs. old. so I consider my self a direct witness of all that shit.
This is truly an amazing video about Nicaragua, One of the best I have found on any subject in RUclips, There is hope that a real sandinista will rise to become Presedente un dia! This country, these people have so much potential .....
Video muy bueno y diferente. Sería muy interesante que el autor volviera a Nicaragua a hacer un seguimiento de la historia, ya que Daniel Ortega volvio al poder. Me pregunto si ahora hallaría su respuesta.... Very good video with great, uncommon footage. It would be interesting for the author to make a follow-up story, with the same people, today in Nicaragua now that Daniel Ortega is back in power. I wonder if he will find the answer to his question this time around....

Thats because you dont know.the reality of Nicaragua. The right wing liberal governments who were in power for sixteen years are rhe one who stole and benefited from the country. Poverty rose instead of declining to the point that the lights would go off for about 12 hours a day everyday. The reality is that althogh Daniel Ortega in his second term of power, the people want and support him. Kind of shows you the situation Nicaragua is in.
The same is happening they are taking (took) what venezuela is giving (or gave) to our country and only giving crumbs to the people. Ortega and their family (and friends) are one of the richest of the country. Let's see in 10 or 15 years that we'll still be paying the new debt (which they told is not public, but again is a lie since they control the congress)
The US indirect interventions of the 1980s left at least 30,000 dead in Nicaragua and more than 100,000 dead in El Salvador. Furthermore, extreme poverty remains. Empowerment International states that today "47% of its [Nicaragua's] population is below the poverty level" and that "only 40% of the children who started first grade completed 6th grade." The Reagan government was responsible for the failure of the revolution to a large extent.
Funny how things change in an instant. It's now the beginning of May, 2018. The majority of people in Nicaragua are now calling for an end to the Ortega dictatorship. He has become worse than the Somoza regime ever was.
At least he leaves office when he loses an election. The Somozas never allowed any elections in the 45 years they ruled ....They left 75% of the population uneducated and unable to read or write.

There are no more "Sandinistas" in power. There are a lot of "Danielistas" now in power, that are getting rich and richer with people's money. True Sandinistas want a free country and a real democracy. Daniel Ortega played false to Sandino and the People of Nicaragua. He certainly is going to pay some day, soon or later, but he'll pay anyway.
democracy in a country were so many people is poor is not that appealing to the majority, that is the reason i think that that ideology still survives in my country. The Sandinistas took properties and killed some of my family members i know that Somoza was no angel but fuck, he was a million times better than "bachi" Ortega
The Somocistas worked in a period still ruled by the old spanish mentality, they already owned extensive extensions of land they were landlords, From how they took the land from do you have any documentation to support you theory an if some some illegal nationalization of land took place is nothing compare to what happen in the 80's. The killing and torture is true but that also happen in the 80's. Its in the 80's that that most nicas got out of the country.

The problem is that socialism is a modern form of secular feudalism. In fact, in places like North Korea and Syria, the successors to socialist leaders literally are chosen through primogeniture. So apparently he's not a "dumbass" at all.

And neither have socialism with Venezuela, Guyana, Nicaragua, Cuba, Romania, Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Soviet Union, Albania, Madagascar, Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia, Benin, Congo, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Burma, Vietnam, China, Laos, North Korea and Mongolia left in its wake.
The Sandinistas had a "good" Goal but they did the Revolution in Detail wrong. In Cuba or Vietnam f. ex. with Doi Moi, it went ekonomically in Detail > better > big Companies are in State ownership and small Companies are in private Hand > that could be the Solution for any modern social Country. For ex. in Vietnam NOW it works very well.
@@ernestkhalimov1007 1.) The main mistake was that the Sandinistas expropriated the farmland from the small Farmers and the Indians to set up cooperatives, which then joined the Contras. And of course, in doing so, gave President Reagan the "pseudo-communist" pretext to set up and arm the Contras in the first place. Too bad. Otherwise the Revolution was a good thing. 2. ) And so the Sandinistas made the same mistake as all revolutionaries, that one first thinks about what kind of theoretical + economic + administrative state model one would like to establish after the revolution - in detail. And only then do you start the revolution, then you have more TIME.
@@ernestkhalimov1007 3.) And the third mistake was that the population was not used to it (.. so from 1980..) that every normal state for the defense of the country has to introduce conscription for almost all men fit for military service. As is normal in Europe, etc., etc. > 1 to 2 years of military service for all young men after high school or after completing vocational training. That's normal, millions of men of my generation have done that too.
@@kindder90er3 for points 1 and 2 the US would have funded the contras regardless even if the FSLN was nationalist considering that the US destroyed Nicaragua even during Sandinos life in the 30s. And either way the FSLN had 0 TIME to begin with and it was either reform the country and succeed in continued governance or leave behind a positive legacy that would help them later on which it did in our current age or go out as bandits like the contras who made 0 effort to make Nicaragua a better place.
@@kindder90er3 and for #3 the country was already used to the reality of war since the beginning of the revolution in the 60s and the Nicaraguan Revolution didn't happen because the FSLN and Nicaraguan people were bored and tired like in western countries but because the entire population was virtually enslaved to US companies and Somoza being their overseer.
Right. Your incapacity for formulating a retort more clever than "up yours" is my fault. Likewise those of others you feel compelled to call "dumbass", "trolls", etc because they say things you can't factually refute. I blocked you because I don't want to waste any more time with your obnoxious abuse. Apparently you haven't gotten the hint.
I wouldnt want to live in cuba or US(maybe Venezuela:)). But I like a little bit of social responsibility for my countrymen.too many desperate people is not good for democracy. Culture or faith is often used as an exuse, it never was. Im not gonna go into details about US gov wrongdoings in south-america starting in the 70s with the deposing of democratically elected president Allende of Chile and the terrorists living in miami, But thats just reciting history. Fidel done worse?
jessersrx7: "thats all as far as me and any guerrilla movement" To quote Dirty Harry: "You're a good man. A good man knows his limitations". Sos otro "Sandalista" hablando mierda. See my slideshow princess for reality of that war.
I lived in Nicaragua for many years and definetly there was more progress during General Somozas era than under sandinista regima. Las but not least: Sandino was not a communist and would never approve what these muchachos did to the country. During the 80s it was like Stasi germany or the worst N-Vietnam dictature.

Thing is Nikaragua was physically under constant attack since the revolution by the USA
Is Nicaragua communist or not,
It's not. It's just ran by some far-left POS's.
It has a socialist government, however its got a capitalist economy with free enterprise and private property.
Nicaragua ISN'T a "communist" country.
Ortega ha estado hablando la misma mierda por mucho tiempo. El problema es que muchos inocentes todavia se lo creen.
Now the history is change
1:50 what song is that? Anyone know because that shit is bussin bussin on god on god??
Shazam it , it will give you the answer you seek
@metsdudenj "La Maria" de Carlos Mejia Godoy
my friend fought in this war.. hes like about 10 years old.. he was a rebel
Fidel done worse?
jessersrx7: "thats all as far as me and any guerrilla movement"
To quote Dirty Harry: "You're a good man. A good man knows his limitations".
Maybe you'll get a chance to prove yourself at the next revolution. There were a lot of brave Piris mixed in with the bad ones. But you certainly aren't un piri bravo. Sos otro "Sandalista" hablando mierda. See my slideshow princess for reality of that war.
really and who asked you to do that?
I lived in Nicaragua for many years and definetly there was more progress during General Somozas era than under sandinista regima. Las but not least: Sandino was not a communist and would never approve what these muchachos did to the country. During the 80s it was like Stasi germany or the worst N-Vietnam dictature.
@xbeckz0092x Ok first, do you live here in Nicaragua? Do you live as a poor guy?
Soy y sere Sandinista, abajo Ortega Traidor
Tu no eres Sandinista.
Sandinista o Danielista?
Islamic fundamentalism.. doesnt get worse then that. That makes our little political discussion seem less important heh
