    Talking about what you said at 3:00, in the owners manual it says "For faster acceleration when in D3 orD4, you can get the transmission to automatically downshift by pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor. The transmission will shift down one or two gears, depending on your speed" So it seems that it's by design that the car doesn't automatically downshift if you're not flooring it.

      It's funny, I'm always the one that says "RTFM"... Read the effing manual... and I did not do that. That's interesting and good to know it's not a defect but wow did they make it a pain to get that car to move once it's on the highway. Thanks for clueing me in bud!

    A few years back I had a 1994 four door Integra LS. I bought it with 142k 100% stock and sold it with 216k on the o.d.o. (left it completely stock). In the years of ownership, it took me and my family all over the state of FL (that's where we live) and not once, did it ever give me a single problem. All I ever did to that car was regular maintenance and it never fought me back on a single thing. Heck, the only reason we even sold it was because our second daughter was being born and we needed a bigger car for all the extra crap that needs to be hauled on a daily basis with a newborn or else I would still be daily driving it. From the moment I saw the taillights fade into the distance of the new owner driving it away, I regretted and have missed that little car. What an absolute joy that thing was to drive around. I know this video is old but I stumbled across it and just wanted to share my story with you. I hope your pops still has that car and still enjoys driving it around from time to time and reminds him of your mother. That thing is pristine!

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  4 года назад +1

      This video may be a bit old, but the car and stories like this are timeless. Your story reminds me of how it may be "just a car", but if you had the chance to sit in it again, so many memories would come back to you. That's a great success story especially considering the fact that you bought the car at a high mileage and were still able to get an additional 70k miles out of it without an issue. Not to mention you sold it in working order and I bet its still putting around town somewhere (assuming it was maintained and not driven aggressively of course). My father will never get rid of my mother's Integra, and when it gets passed down to me, I'll never get rid of it either. A lot of people don't get it, but a piece of mom is still with the car, so many memories of her teaching me to drive in it. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story and for watching this video. Keep an eye out for another one, you can still relive the good ol days.

    I've kept my 94 Integra GSR stock until this year. I had to replace my exhaust but couldn't get a stock system. I bought an after market catback exhaust... what a mistake, loud and ear splitting drone. My Integra is in storage for the winter but come next spring I will be looking to replace that awful exhsudt with a quieter one. I orefer the round headlights to the Japanese ones. The value in these cars now is in keeping them stock. I bought mine new, it only has 88,000 kms and never seen road salt or snow in the 25 years I've owned it.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад +1

      Oh man, that must look incredible. I completely agree, being unique with this these days means having it stock or with slightly functional modifications like the headlights which you can always revert.
      I had luck finding an OEM exhaust online and for a very cheap price, I don't recall where but I didn't go for it since shipping was twice as much as the product. I went with as close to stock as I could find but it wasn't exactly a perfect fit and I'm pretty sure it doesn't sound like it would have stock, however it doesn't rattle and isn't embarrassing.
      I know exactly what you mean though, that drone man, it's enough to drive a person crazy! Thanks for checking my video out buddy.

      @@Altek1 i had to have the exhaust modified to fit my model year. A such, I could not send it back for refund. I tried to put on a stock exhaust since I bought the one that is on the car now but, it too did not fit my car although the manufacturer's description specifically stated it did. The garage had to send it back but I was on the hook for labour costs. That's why i've been hesitant in finding a suitable replacement.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад

      I'm surprised you've had this much trouble finding something that would fit. But I understand your hesitation when it comes to trying other parts. I'd say if the exhaust is your biggest problem at this point, you definitely have a solid car overall.

    • @marcperras9072
      @marcperras9072 5 лет назад

      @@Altek1 I bought a Bosal exhaust and had to return it. Problem is the 94 GSR 2 door has a shorter down pipe than other years.
      Yes, the car is solid. I changed the belt and water pump after 23 years as a preventive measure and put on brake pads too. I have replaced the hydraulic clutch rubber housing twice earlier on (1999 and 2003). No problem with it since. Other than a couple of batteries and 1 set of tires all other parts are original including all 4 rotors. The mechanic said they still looked new and only front pads were worn but changed all pads as a precaution. I put 1050 kilometres on the car last year and 568 kms this year.
      I bet your father must be happy you take such good care of your mother's car. I will most likely pass mine on to my son or daughter one day. Never selling it. I imagine you may have the same thing in mind.

Unfortunately my brother's crazy wife drove the car to the ground and finally totaled when it was hit by an uninsured motorist earlier this year. Ironically and tragically I told my brother to keep the floor mats before he donated the car but it was too late, why tragic? The car I picked up came with no carpet.

      @Altek1  4 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback and the sub Kevin, much appreciated! Acura made some great cars during their inception. I'd love to get my hands on a gen 1 but to be fair, the gen 2 sits next to my Legend very nicely. What shape is your 96 in? How many miles?

Most of the work I have would be cosmetic...some of the interior door paneling and exterior window trim is peeling, but mechanically she is solid!

  • @mds2465
    @mds2465 5 лет назад +1

    As for the wind noise if you still hear it as you’re driving down the road and the windows are all closed up then you must have a leak at one of the door or window seals, or the sunroof. Sometimes those seals tear or dry rot overtime. My 06 Pilot does the same thing at highway speeds. I need to investigate that at some point. Certainly doesn’t sound like a wheel bearing though.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад

      You have a point, the car is almost 25 years old and some of those rubber moldings have taken a hit over time. I'll change em out and see if it helps, can't be that expensive. Thanks bud!

    • @mds2465
      @mds2465 5 лет назад

      Altek yeah I think amazon sells kits you can get for those. I recommend Honda oem ones of you can find them. Yes they cost more but I firmly believe that they are the best quality parts for any Honda/Acura.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад

      On small parts like that, I'm big on OEM. I was trying to go OEM on my 93 Integra for the exhaust but couldn't justify the extra $400.

    • @mds2465
      @mds2465 5 лет назад +1

      Altek I hear ya. Exhaust systems are expensive. I got rear ended in the Pilot on 287 driving home from work one night and the bumper was already toast from a fender bender my brother had a while back and the exhaust got pushed in from the impact so insurance gave me a new bumper and exhaust as part of that claim so I scored big time

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад

      Haha awesome! That happened with my 95 Maxima. I bought it for $3500, got hit before I sold it and made $3200, then sold it a year later for $2500. Made out like a bandit! But yeah, if it doesn't sound obnoxiously loud or broken, on most cars I'd let a bad exhaust or a bumped up bumper just be.

      This might be nerdy but I think the first in car navigation option was offered by Honda in early 1980s using a primitive version of dead reconning with a manually calibrated point of light that would following behind a translucent map sheet. Believe it was Japan only.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  6 лет назад

      That's perfectly nerdy and sounds awesome, I have to look that up. I'm shocked by some of the old tech and the methods they tried to get some things to work. As for the Vigor, I never really looked into that car but I've had more interest recently since I've been doing these videos. I'm looking into finding one of those and an old Cressida, something about them just catches my interest. A friend has a Cressida he converted into a drift car. Hello from a fellow 1995 Acura Integra SE owner! I bought mine (the two door version) from a previous owner over a decade ago, who oddly enough, became a mom herself and needed something more practical. And like you, I prefer to keep it in stock configuration and once in a while surprise people when I tell them I haven't modified anything.

      Hello fellow 1995 Acura Integra SE owner!! :D It's very rare to find these stock. As long as it's in good running condition and you maintain it, you'll be able to get over 250k out of it easy. There's always those people that will insult you and try to offer you $2,000 for it, don't be fooled.

    Good video and story! I stumbled onto it and subscribed while researching the Acura tlx. I also own a generation 3.5 integra - after the refresh in 98. Mine is a 2000 LS. I'm the original owner and it has only 36K original miles on it! Completely stock all OEM. I knew the model would be a classic so i grabbed one before it phased out. At the time, i could only afford the LS even though I wanted the GS-R. In reality, it really isn't that much faster than the LS. Got the spoiler and sport alloys so it looks like a GS-R from the side. It's a fun weekend ride only. No commuting. Immaculate condition in flamenco black pearl. Looks great in the garage next to my BMW f30! :) keep making these great videos for an iconic car. It's a collector's item my friend.

  • @MrGrentch
    @MrGrentch 5 лет назад +2

    Your mum had good taste. :) And your dad has really looked after it. Great to see.
    Though if they're not abused and they're maintained well, they're as reliable as granite. The bug eyes were an odd departure for Honda. They had them in Japan for a few years too(I had a 2 door 94 SiR example), then in 95/96 they went with what was pretty much a return to the previous Integra lights, but for some reason kept the the bug eyes for all other markets. I agree with you though they've become more iconic over time.
    And I say that as someone who has a JDM R. It's 20 years old now and all that's needed replacing/fixing was the alternator, coil and just last week the windscreen washer motor. Japanese cars of the 90's in general were _incredibly_ well bolted together(except for rust protection...). TBH I held onto mine largely for sentimental reasons. My own mum came down with dementia and soon enough she didn't recognise anyone, but for some reason she remembered my car.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад +1

      Oh damn, that story is more sad than mine buddy, I'm sorry to hear. I'm happy my father kept it the way he did, and I intend to do the same in the future.
      The bug eye was a big deviation and I think it's funny how they weren't well received at first but now it's an iconic look to the brand as a whole. I can't say I prefer one or the other these days since they both have their distinct look.
      Seems like you have some typical repairs there but nothing major, which is why I appreciate Honda so much. It certainly isn't the only brand I'd buy, but they prove to be reliable time and time again. For the cost of all three cars used, I'm still not even close to the cost of even a new Kia Rio.
      It's always great to see someone who shares the passion. Thanks for watching!

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch 5 лет назад

      @@Altek1 Ah thanks for that, but it was funny at times too. Once I was picking her up from her doctors office and as I approach the doc is in stitches laughing so I asked her what was so funny. Apparently as I was driving into the car park my mum said all excited, "Oh look that's _my_ car!!". Followed by a less happy "Who's that bloody eejit driving it" 😂 In fairness, when she was right she was right. 😀 She loved the noise and speed of Vtec too. Got outa two speeding tickets because of her...
      I hear you on costs. When I see what mates of mine running current iron, mostly the fancier German stuff, especially BMW's and the costs they seem to regularly suffer and feel to be normal, the old Japanese stuff is budget motoring by comparison. The Honda's of this era can be a bugger for going through bushes mind you. One disadvantage with the double wishbone setup, more bushes than a botanic garden. If I bought a new one to me, the first thing I'd do is refresh them with new and from Honda. Especially the rear trailing arm bushes. A very clever and patented passive setup by Honda that induces toe in under weight transfer in corners, which helps you get around the twisty bits.
      It's always fascinating to me how some cars become more than just a collection of metal and plastic(and they're rarely enough the very high end "supercars"). Almost like another member of the family, filled with memories. Like your mum's car. My mechanic calls mine my "pet car". 😄

      Altek yeah that’s great you held onto it for so many years! I recently convinced my grandma to buy my late grandfathers 2014 Lexus ES 350 off lease. They always used to lease cars because first of all they didn’t drive that much and my grandfather was an attorney and so he could write it off from the firm at the end of the year. They got the car in April of 2014 and he passed away from cancer 6 months later. I told her it would be a nice thing to keep in memory of him and that it would be a very good and reliable car for years to come. Oddly enough it’s also white like your dads car

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад +1

      That's awesome that you got to keep the ES. It's a nice car to begin with and the memory just makes it that much better. I hope you still have it 25 years from now, it's a Toyota, it'll last.

      Altek oh yes, if she ever decides she wants a new car then I’ll probably buy it from her. I drove it just a couple weeks ago in fact and it still handles like a dream. Car has just over 17k on the odometer. Most of those miles were put on by my uncle, my aunt, and myself. My Grandma just doesn’t drive much these days. I would say at most maybe 2500 miles a year or less.

    • @Altek1
      @Altek1  5 лет назад

      It'll still bee a brand new car in a decade at that rate, I'd say buy it. It's not my favorite body style of the ES but it doesn't look bad at all. Plus, it's a Lexus, ya can't beat that sweet soft ride.
