Thanks! I’ve always been curious about Icarus Hunt. I’ll be looking for it in my local used book store, and looking for Icarus Plot in the new releases in big box stores. Whichever I find first I’ll dive into 🤷♂️ Btw I like your haircut!
Glad you like it because I don’t ha ha. But it’ll grow back eventually. If you do end up reading the Icarus plot before reading the Icarus hunt, I’ll be curious to see your reaction. I almost wonder if this book could be viewed as a standalone that just so happens to be set in the same world with some of the same characters. It’s so sad apart the characters are in such a different points in their lives that I think you could get away without reading the first one.
If you wanna get a good understanding of his style, I would start with Angel mass and the first book in the Conquerors Trilogy. However, I think his best work is mantas gift. (which I have a review coming out next week.) Icarus hunt is probably his most popular outside of Star Wars though, so that is also worth checking out. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those pics.
Thank you! I saw my brother with this book but could not find anything anywhere to tell me if it was a sequel or Zahn just liked the word Icarus and decided to reuse it
This is exactly why Baen should have at least included "The Icarus Hunt" as one of his previous works in the front pages, because otherwise it can be confusing.
I can make that. If you take out Star Wars and Star Trek (which I consider Media Tie-In Fiction and not Sci-Fi), then I am nowhere near as well read as the other genres. I’ve read several sci-fi books from Timothy Zahn, Kevin J Anderson, and a few standalones from other authors, but not a ton. But maybe when I’m a little more we’ll read in the genre, as I’ll be reading more Sci-Fi this year.
I agree. My order is different. Manta's Gift, Icarus Hunt, Angelmass which is followed by the Conqueror series. Looking forward to reading The Icarus Plot. Timothy Zahn is always a solid writer, not so hit or miss like many.
I have really been wanting to get to The Icarus Hunt. So I’m glad this one is good as well. I too wish authors’ non-media tie-in works was made more apparent so that we could get more of them. Do you hope Zahn makes more in this universe?
If he made more in this universe I would read them. However, I’m more interested in some of his other universes, such as angel mass, Mantas gift, and the cobra series.
I’d recommend that you start with Icarus Hunt first, just to have the frame story (Also because I think it’s a little bit better). But, you really could read the sequel by itself.
Great review! You'll be happy to hear we're publishing the first of several sequels, The Icarus Twin, this December!

I'm looking forward to picking this book up at some point. Loved the original.
Haven’t read any of Zahn’s non-SW books but I’m interested in checking them out. What would you recommend starting with?

Great video. Do you think you could make a best si-fi rank list video? I would really appreciate it. Anyways, keep going man.

Ever read the Skulduggery Pleasant book series?
I have not read the series. Would you recommend it?

Glad to see other enthusiasts for Zahns original novels. He really is a great concept developer for Sci-Fi.

I loved the review and now I'm intrigued to check out this author. Do you recommend starting with icarus hunt or can I begin with hunt hardER?

@@jonathankoan I'll go with your opinion and order icarus hunt right-away!
