    Let’s go! New Sherman school! This has been a huge help to me, because I used to just identify a Sherman tank based off of its looks and not specific details you’ve shown me! Also thanks for all the scale model tips they really help!

    Very pleased you are mentioning the many safety issues on the Sherman, which many of todays armchair generals do their best to deny. The early DV hatches were particularly hard to exit as they were not sprung, the crewman had to lift the full weight of the hatch wich was difficult if wounded. In early 1943 the hatches were counter-sprung making then much easier to lift. Because of safety issues, principally fire, the Sherman series were re-designed in late 1943. Along with 'wet' ammunition stowage on the hull floor, the large hull hatches were introduced which were fully counter-sprung. To do this the front hull angle and armour thickness was changed from 50mm / 56 degrees to 63mm / 47 degrees, the level of protection remained the same.

    Fantastic - thank you. I've really enjoyed this series so far, and this episode was no exception. Great info - previously I only really knew about cast versus welded hulls, but not all these other variations.

    Holy cow!!!!!!!! This is the only, and best info on these tanks that I know of!!!! How in the H^%L do you keep this in your head!!!!!!!! NOW, What Sherman do I want to build????? "And there you go". Easy for you to say!!!!! happy building everybody!!! cheers!

    Thank you Hank. This is one aspect of Sherman development that I was never really clear on. Even with the variouse books I have on shermans (mostly modeling the Sherman). Great video.

    Carrying on with the hobby after a year of getting some basic advice from your channel after a long break from making model kits. Finally got my order of things in the process settled. I know which products to look out for as for building and painting. On a bit of a whimsical journey now with a never-built Panzer IV Ausf H with sloped armour from Amusing Hobby. Interesting concept that never was. But will be in my display case once finished 😀

    I am looking to pick up a copy of the Sherman data sheet you created and have been using for this video series. I purchased two copies of the Spotter's guide on the website but can't seem to find the data sheet. Is that currently available anywhere?
