Some stuff I'd love to see under the tree this year: Trim router, router bits, box of pencils, drill bit sharpener, sharpening stones, and YES...clamps, clamps, clamps! Thanks for the video. Gonna share with the fam.
I'm tough to buy for because I'm picky. My wife learned to just ask me, what do you want. Then I pick it out and order it. Best way to get exactly what you want, although the surprise factor goes away. BTW - Mrs 731 should be on more often! ;-)
Suggestion-Titebond 3 is better to get because you can use it on more projects. Covers the bases. Especially if kitchen accessories are being made. This is a great list. We always need/use these things!!
These gift suggestions work for other areas as well. My wife is really big into quilt making and embroidery. She currently has about 7 sewing machines that perform different operations (sound like your workshop?). She has NEVER bought a sewing machine. I bought every one of them as gifts over the years for different presents (Christmas, birthday, anniversary). The last one cost more than the previous 6 combined, but I got a deal on it and it really made her happy. How did I know what she wanted? I went to fabric stores, quilt shops, watched some of the tv shows she watched. A lot of this bored me out of my skull, but your have to do it, if you are going to buy a gift like this. My wife knows better than to buy ANY tool for me, because I am very particular about my tools. She just says go buy it and we are both happy. At the end of the video, I noticed you are barefooted in your shop. Hmm... I would easily find the sharpest thing on the floor in seconds. I did notice that you have some sort of rubber matting on the floor. Being substantially older than you, standing on concrete floors is not pleasant. What is it that you have lined you floor with? It looks comfortable to stand on.
This can best be summed up by the equation N+1=Z. Z being the total number of clamps requiredto be on hand for any project, N is the number of clamps any wood worker currently has in his inventory.
Boy oh boy you nailed it with clamps. I am pretty new at this and been collecting tools for a couple of years and don’t have nearly enough clamps or good clamps for that matter.
I just purchased my first Brad Nail Air Gun and I see a lot of different oils for them so my question is what brand do you reccomend? I'll be using it on my first Blue Line Flag .
I’m so glad that I ran on to your RUclips. My son at the beginning of the summer started dabbling in woodworking he is doing a beautiful job started with noodle boards and cutting boards. I referred your RUclips to him and i sent this one a couple of minutes ago and said Christmas wish list! We both have enjoyed your RUclips. So thank you for posting God bless PS love those shirts
I’ve got a major problem I ordered a shirt for my son and I accidentally ordered it twice is there anyway you can fix it for me The order that is $49 and change is the one I need canceled
Can you look in your deleted folder and get it? From what I’m reading you can edit the order still. I don’t have access to changing orders since teespring fulfills it. Check out this article answers.teespring.com/article/returns-and-cancellations/
I laughed hard at the clamps segment, so funny and so true. Your channel's gotten me to the point where I hit like even before watching the video, and I've never been wrong
DUDE. This is it, right here. Already shared the vid and tagged my wife. LOL!! The “boy if I had this...” section hit especially close to home. 🤣🤣 Awesome vid, and a great service to help hint to your wife with plenty of time left before Xmas.
I have those same Harbor Freight clamps you showed and am about to use a hack to make them stiffer here soon. Great video by the way. Always wanted to ask about the walls in your garage and the fact that they are sided, was garage added or just design style? I always think your shop is outside but it's not.
@@731Woodworks I like the look... just wouldn't work as well for me personally, I've got way too much stuff on my walls and I'd have that nice siding all messed up. My wife asked about moving my small wood shop to one of the other nicer garages and I keep a clean shop but the old old old shop with OSB walls is perfect for getting dusty (no dust collection on everything yet) and just feels right for some wood working lol.
My children are great listeners and they all know what I want and keep on wanting to buy me the tools I want, but I have had to keep saying no only due to the fact that I have nowhere to put my tools anymore. It surely breaks my heart but it also brings joy to my heart that they have actually surprised me with some of the smaller tools I actually do have room for. Last year they gift wrapped 8' planks of wood for Christmas. 😂 I made our Doggo a pet bed with it. 😁🥰🐕
Your personality and sense of humor is awesome, I love watching your videos...and I agree...CLAMPS, I will never have enough clamps. I never would have thought of just wood, but what a great idea...I am gonna start dropping hints, LOL! Thanks Matt!!
Awesome video! Be careful of buying certain things off Amazon. They can have good prices on some things, but the clamps should definitely be bought at Home Depot for almost half the price! Also, great shirt!
Great video. Now I need to tell the wifey I need jointer or a planer. Last time she got me the Armor pocket hole jig, which btw is awesome. she also got me the WEN electric hand planer which was great as well...
The carpenter I work with, we just get him blades, sandpaper, titebond etc. on the house when he needs it, but I think getting him some fresh batteries is a great idea!
If i had a request for Christmas it would be a Gaggle of screws in all sizes. Kreg / Spax... dont know how many times ive had to stop what im working on to go get more Screws... and is it me or do others look at the 250 kreg screw packs and get hit with sticker shock? I would perfer a Spax torq head screw for pocket holes but i havnt found a suitable replacement
Love this video, got so many great ideas. Only problem is, I am the only one into woodworking in my family and circle. Tee hee! Guess I'll ask my hubby to watch. Great video Matt and Mrs.
Am I the only one who noticed those bare feet????🤣🤣 Great suggestions. I admit I'd want the tools or a gift card to add to my savings for future larger tools, but that's just me. Consumables won't be around by next year, but tools and the other things uou mentioned might. 😁
What going on Boss Hog. Great ideas on here. I’ve seen different videos on here about gift giving, but hands down never seen no one say WOOD. Yes that a good one right there wood great call. I hesitate sometimes on buying wood. Ole Goose here Houston Texas 🤜🏼🤛🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi, Just subscribed to your channel! Wow, it is great. Thank you. I tried to find a video that shows how you been doing all the different finishes, for example, the Stove Top Cover (all those different finishes in your top 5 selling video). If you didn't have one yet, maybe it an idea for one. I build myself 16x16 workshop and I'm just starting doing woodworking as a hobby so starving for knowledge Thanks again for this great channel.
Yep! I was talking about wanting a benchtop planer so much it was annoying! Then! Guess what I got for my birthday this year? Lol everyone pitched in and I only got one thing this year. But I was almost in tears! So yes, just listen.
Good video. My suggestion to be sure you get the right item or brand like a battery for their cordless tools is to take a picture on your phone and go to hardware store and show the pictures to the employee in the tool area. Same with everything else.
as a starting wood worker what i would like to get as a gift is MORE TIME. youtube DIY woodworking community is killing me with thousands of ideas i want it all ,i want it all i want it all and i want it NOW
Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamps! I've had the clamp discussion several times recently. Just don't get me one from HF. The most expensive tool is one you buy cheaply over and over again.
I buy the hf bar claps i have 6 sets and only had 1 bad set in the purchase. Returned it and i have used them for years... i just got 4 60" F- clamps from Harbor freight and did a glue up and they worked great... i spent $46 for 4 on sale where Wood Craft wanted $36 each. I do agree that some HF clamps are junk...
Check warranty information on power tools before buying. I know for a fact that Rigid requires you to register within 90 days to receive their lifetime service agreement. Other brands have similar requirements so if you buy it too early and give it for Christmas they may be busy and not get the registration done in time. Also many tools warranties are void if they are purchased from other than authorized dealers for instance Amazon is not an authorized dealer for Milwaukee or Rigid tools. You are paying for the warranty in the price of the tool make sure you get it.
Very surprised that these didn't make the list Micro jig gripper if they have a table saw, kreg pocket hole jig, dowel jig, these and clamps could be the best gifts for a woodworker especially those just starting out. And guaranteed they will use and love them.
This is all true! And why are there consistently 5 negatives on the video? Those 5 folks just need to not watch. Anyhow, I make tshirts! Any way I can send you one? Don’t have to shout me out, don’t have to tell folks about me at all. Just me sending you my merch.

Question: How many clamps does a a woodworker need?
Answer: One more clamp than they have
😂
Excellent content man. Keep it comin! 👍
lol thank you
So true. Last week I had 26 clamps in use at one time.
Absolutely correct.
