    I fitted one to my 330i e46 a month ago and think your review is spot on, I agree that it's not a locker for donuts and serious drifting. but it does make a noticeable difference especially on launch and on corner exit. was about 50 usd for grinding the 2 bevel gears and another 60 usd on import tax and custom duties to DHL South Africa. Overall I'm happy with the conversion. Your vids helped me a lot, keep up the great content.

      @UndeadCrook 5 лет назад +3

      The lock is not enough for drifting and i don't think that's the purpose of this kit. It's for a road legal car's to have the extra traction they need.
      How long have you had it in your car, and have you changed the oil since to see if it's contaminated with lots of metal shavings?
      I am really considering the kit as that's what i need- extra traction on corner exit and launches, i wouldn't use that for drifting anyway.

      I know this is an old comment but wondering if you disabled your e-diff. I Don't care for drifting or burnouts, but with the power I am currently making i will spin a good set of 200tw UHP tires at 60 and anything under 50 I have no chance, which seriously limits where and when I can roll onto throttle. Trying to see if this would work and also if disabling the e-diff will give back some of the power the brake activation steals / throttle closure from traction having to be left on

    I'll be honest I thought this thing was gonna be garbage once you got it out on the road. I'm glad it works well. If you get 25% better traction and a car that can actually be fun and safe to drive without traction control on then it's a good value. I bought an Mfactory LSD for mine. It's great and all but a pain to get the gear backlash setup properly. This looks much easier and I bet for street driving I would have been happy with it. Glad there are cheaper options that are effective, will try to install one of these on a customers car. Quick question, how many millimeters did you shave off the gears? How do you know how much to take off? Oh and how is it holding up?

    I’ve been keen to do this conversion since you first introduced the upgrade to your car. I’d love to know how it is performing now that you have done quite a few miles on it. Have you noticed any changes in the way it operates, good or bad? I will be considering leaving the ediff system active as I feel this will only be activated if needed which should be less often than with an open diff and should work well in assisting the racing diff LSD conversation.
    Your current opinion on this LSD option is valued, thanks.

      It could be worth going this way if your ring gear is welded, not bolted to the diff as in the video.
      My ring gear isn't welded, so it made a lot more sense for me to just buy a Wavetrac differential, a proven, US-made product with lifetime warranty.

      After 8 months it has not degraded at all. It does a great job of keeping the car straight, the car kind of claws at the road for traction vs just stepping to the right. I'd say it's about half as effective as the LSD that came in my M340i which uses the same LSD as the M2 from what I've read. The LSD in the M340i is electronically controlled and super effective.

    hi mate just just wondering how has the LSD conversion been long term and if anybody sees this have they used it for some light drifting is it any good for somebody starting off

    So u have had this for a while im looking for a review on it before i spend a bunch of money on a true lsd. My car is just a dd and family car but is constantly burning a rear tire and id like to solve that plus have added traction

    • @VehicularDIY
      @VehicularDIY  3 года назад

      It still locks and keeps the car straight, I have an electronically controlled LSD in my M340i and would say this is about 50% as effective as that is. It's great when the car is pointed straight but when powering out of a corner it doesn't lock as aggressively. So for keeping the car straight under load it's been working great for that.

    I have a 330ci e46, and I would like to do small slides and burnouts every now and then. is this kit worth buying? so far Ive not seen any proper videos expect this one thats like showing how the kit works after installation. if anyone can let me know if its worth getting I would appreciate it. Thank you!

    You mentioned getting the gears ground down, is this part of the lsd conversion process or a separate method altogether?
    Reason I ask is, I have an old E46 im converting into a budget drift car and I need a budget option to lock my stock open diff. Thanks!

      just weld your diff if it's a drift car

    • @DanRalley
      @DanRalley 3 года назад +1

      @@tuned4life I ended up having to weld it. The conversion kit does lock. But it's not enough for drifting.

    About your comment on flooring it with traction control fullt off, shouldn't you be able to control the car with spinning rear wheels, when you own such a car? It scares me to gear that you get scared by your own car breaking traction in a straight line. I'm not saying this to throw you under the bus or anything, but maybe you should practice your car control a little?

      I ran that diff until I manual swapped the car, it held up until I took it off but didn't put a ton of miles on it. The miles that I did put on it were hard street miles.

      Thanks, I'm running an Alpina transmission tune so my shifts are a little soft between shifts. I'm going to be trying out the XHP Stage 3 soon as I got some stage 2 turbos on the way. It'll bump the line pressure up and quicken the shifts.

    Does this chatter the tires like a welded diff does at low speed tight turns?

  • @theseal666
    @theseal666 4 года назад

    This is crap, buy a proper Torsen LSD for street use and a proper plate LSD for track/heavy street-use.
    The E90 is proper understeer in almost all setups and that will make the car squirm and send you in a rebound skid when you let of gas or the tyres finding traction under skids. This behaviour will get a lot better if you set up the car more neutral, stock is silly understeer and almost all aftermarket setups are still not neutral enough to stop this behavior. (I am running 18,6 kg/mm and dampers valved to that in the rear on my E91)

    This piece of shit only works in a straight line.
    Just try to lock two wheels in a turn and you will understand everything. And it also locks the wheels 100%. For example, only 25% is blocked on m3. This is a big load on the transmission. Don't waste money!

  • @jasonbirch1182

    OK, HOLD ON A SECOND HERE!!
    no one has mentioned this? He says the car was "jumping sideways" and " he would be fighting the wheel" with an open diff? That makes no sense. A car with an LSD is gettng sideways not one with an open. I think this dude is clueless.

    • @gopherklr

    • @ihm96

      If you floor an open diff and spin the wheels itll send the car crabbing sideways instead of straight and you basically have to ease off and fight the wheel toget it straight until it hooks up
