Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II disassembly and assembly for replacing the broken focusing gear

This video is about replacing the focusing gear in a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II lens. The lens had problems with the focusing mechanism. One teeth was missing from the focusing gear and because of that, the focusing lens element wasn't running smoothly. So in this video I show you how to disassemble the lens, replace the focus gear with a new one, then assemble the lens.

Check ebay... usually I buy lens parts there, alternatively you can check aliexpress, there are some sellers who sell new repair parts there. You could ask your Canon service center, generally, they sell repair parts but I think they don't have parts for such an old lens.

6:22 - Having (after a lot of struggle) got the front got the front element out, I realise there is fungus inside that part. I can't see anyway at all it can be taken apart to get to the inside of the lens surfaces. It seems to be one piece with the glass stuck in? Is there anyway of taking that apart?

I don't think it can be separated. Well, separating would be the easier part, but putting it back together perfectly parallel would be the harder part.

hi I have a canon efs 18-55 mm with fungus but the top lens is different, without easy removal. No holes who indicates how to remove and is in mobile part in conjunction with other lens. Can you help me,?

Is it the STM version? As I remember, you have to disassemble it almost completely to clean it.
