Great review gents! I had a Teeling rum finished whisky, and found it to be better than the single malt or the wine finished sample in the three pack. I suppose one could take a rather average single malt, add a few drops of quality rum, and achieve comparable results. Great info on this whisky; very thorough explanation of the finish.
That actually makes sense because the flavors were not deep enough nor complex enough, for example, if compared to the La Santa Glenmorangie, which uses a completely matured wine cask.
Enjoyable review guys and great info on the process. I've tried to like this one over the years but I just don't. I don't like rum at all and for me the rum dominates.
This Balvenie has always received mixed reviews. I'm fond of good Balvenie and I also like quality rum so I should have tried some of this long ago. Something in the back of my mind keeps putting me off. I think I'd rather buy Balvenie Single Barrel and I'd rather buy a good rum. I have a bottle of the Balvenie Peat Week 14 year I'd like your opinion on. Cheers guys.
If I had to pick a favorite (and money was no object), I would pick the 14 YO Caribbean. I think it really enhances the deep and rich core flavors of Balvenie.
Thanks guys for a great review. You guys were a great bridge between Ralfy and Horst. I like the birds in the background
I like to think so :)
Barry, great comment about SMR being a bridge between Ralfy and Horst! I was thinking the same thing as I was watching this.
Great Dram! ❤

Great info and even better wood management.
It's amazing, by the way, how many distilleries in Scotland source their bourbon casks from Wild Turkey.

You had to do a 2nd shoot, because you accidentally on purpose messed up the 1st one. I got ya.
between the 12, the single barrel 12 and the 14 Caribbean... over all, for most enjoyment and reward.. which would you say I should go for?
