Losing 5 of 6 to the Tigers wasn’t the problem, they’re a damn good team. Losing 6 of 7 to the Angels cost us the playoffs this year. Six wins is the division.
Robles seems like a perfect fit for Safeco. Gets on base multiple ways and the attacks the base path. He gets dinged up a lot with his aggressive style, that would be my biggest concern for a full season
Fun fact. Robles is 27 and it took Edgar till his age 27 season to put up big stats. Granted development 35 years ago vs now is probably a lot different.
What's most annoying is the Mariners expected win/loss of 82-68 would give a 3.5 game lead for the final wildcard spot over the Twins, who have an expected win/loss of 78-71. On the other hand, the Astros expected win/loss record of 85-64 is still better by 3.5 games, and obviously projected to be better than 88-74 (54%). At 81-68, the Astros are still likely to finish above 88-74 (54%). Winning the division should be the obvious goal.
Robles hasn't been a 5 win player since joining us. He has actually been a 7.5 win player (fangraphs over 162 game stretch). Does it seem likely he will put up that pace next year? Of course not. But I think you are doing him a bit of a disservice. He has actually become one of the best baserunners in Mariner's history during his run so far. If he continues to be this good of a baserunner (or nearly) he is a 2-2.5 win player even if his defense and offense grades out to replacement level. If he carries his above average defense, great arm and at least decent offensive output (maybe a 105-115 wRC+), he is likely a 3.5+ win player next year with a ceiling to reach much higher. The encouraging part for me is he is having this success in repeatable ways. He is not displaying any power we've never seen him have. He has only hit 4 homeruns in 62 games with us. He isn't crushing the ball with ridiculous velocities. He is just reaching base in a ton of different ways and then stealing bases with insane efficiency (despite having only slightly above average sprint speed).
When Robles came here many of us were like "Who?..". He was hitting the ball well but I think that just about all Mariners fans never expected him to continue to hit around .300 and be the sparkplug he has proven to be. I looked up his history in August and this is the player that he was supposed to be when drafted, he just had not had it click yet. With his hitting approach, I don't see him really tapering off much now that he has found a day to day role with a team. He is becoming like Edgar or Ichiro where I just expect him to get a hit when he comes to the plate. He is also a lot faster than people expect, proven by his what, 20-20 SB so far? I just hope Randy can become more consistent. And praying that Garver's recent hitting and lack of K's is due to Edgar's coaching and that he can be even 80% of what he was for Texas down the stretch here.
@@elijahmilan5341 He's blindly optimistic and you're blindly pessimistic. Fangraphs gives us 10% odds, and the club is playing well. May as well wait and see what happens. Isn't enjoying watching meaningful games like the whole point of being baseball fans?
@@bobofriend2 I’m not blindly pessimistic I’m a realist. I want them to make just as much as anyone else but I’m sparing my feelings of disappointment cause they’re not gonna make it. Hang on to that 10% tho I hope you prove me wrong
Fangraphs currently gives us a 10.8% chance of making the playoffs. I think that's quite a bit more fair than Colby's "less than 1%" approximation. I think it will take a lot of things going right, and I'm sure as hell not holding my breath. But It's a realistic enough possibility that it's still interesting.
Has Garver done anything different hitting wise with Edgar at hitting coach? 9 RBI’s and only 3 K’s in last 3 games. Any hope he can get closer to his Ranger days? I’m in the boat to trade him if possible but his contract could prohibit that.
They will tease, they will take this series against the Yankees (because for some reason the M's always play better against good teams and because it is on ESPN two of the 3 nights), they will take the series against Texas, rolling into Houston 2 games out and tied with Detroit for the final WC spot. They will sweep the Astros, go 1 game up....then get swept by Oakland and be out of both the wildcard and Division title.

I'll be crushed if they trade Randy and break up this great outfield. We haven't had an outfield this good since Ichiro/Cammy/Buhner
And Griffey before Cameron
Agreed, I miss those days. They actually didn’t trade their good players that easily back then.
Go Mariners and rock on Colby and Ty!
Yes, the Tigers stretch of 6 games was a killer but not being able to beat the Angels and Marlins is a real gut punch.

Colby give Victor Robles more credit. Seriously what does the dude have to do to get at least some credit?
"Part of the Ship, part of the Crew"
We don’t care about next year .We are fighting to get in this year
love the optimism but we won't

Colby speaks the truth, but if you sweep the 'Stros;" it's a whole new ball game."
Colby is right they blew it in epic fashion this season they are juat trying to sell as many tickets as they can right now
If we can win the series vs the yanks I will start to believe we can make it

Ahoy guys!!! Looking forward to going to the game on Tuesday. Hoping the M’s stay hot 😁💙💛

Victor is a larger version of Joey cora
What the he'll I'm not worried bout tigers and and we're only 4 behind astros we have tie breaker
Does anyone think if julio doesnt get injured for that 3 week stretch do u think we make playoffs
I don't see how Arozarena is an important member of the 2025 team.
Then you haven’t watched the mariners the last 2-3 years.
Bum
Arozarena is a huge asset to this team in 2025. I believe if we keep him next season we will when the division easily in 2025.
