I just got rejected today. Everything went well. I worked cumulatively for many days working on my application, WG, video interview, case study after which I got a place on the vacation scheme. I worked extra hard on the vacation scheme, did multiple tasks and an assessment centre. I was so close to getting a TC. Until, I got rejected today. I suffer from anxiety and this has triggered the worst form of anxiety today. In fact, I had a really difficult last 3 years personally, and I thought God has finally made things work out for me. I cannot wrap my head around this. Thank you for your video.
I'm sorry to hear that, Sakshee... Please download the sheet in the description (or just do the exercise on pen and paper if you cba to download it) and take time to refocus on your strengths to avoid this experience damaging your self-esteem. There's no good stories without adversity, so hopefully this is just the "middle bit" of a happy story for you. 🙏
@@IdinSabahipour Thank you for replying Idin! Your channel has helped me a lot through this process. I would really appreciate if you could take a moment and give me a piece of advice. I've moved to London a few months ago in September 2021 to study at the LSE. I started sending applications from September, and got a place on a vacation scheme by November, which people tell me is good. However, as you know, I failed to convert my vac scheme to a TC. Your story has been incredibly inspiring, but I'm starting to wonder that given I have a few years of PQE on my CV and am admitted to practice in India since 2017, is this grind even worth it? I feel I have to justify myself in every application and my only reason is that India hasn't liberalised the legal market so the exposure is comparatively limiting. The process here seems to expect some sort of a unicorn candidate. After having done 11 or 12 different stages and tasks, I got rejected because I underperformed on one of them. The feedback acknowledged I was quite good at everything else. I don't quite know how firms think but isn't the whole point of recruiting, finding someone with potential? I really cannot be equally good at everything, that's unnatural. What are your thoughts? Let me know if you have the time. Thank you!
Mental health point is massive. Hopefully corporates think of ways on protecting applicants’ mental health during the application process. (I remember it being so hard to convince myself to apply for a second round of apps after getting rejected the first time round.)
Thanks for watching, bro. 🙏 And yeah, man. 100% it's a factor of the application process that is very real. I think it's easy for apps to take a hit on your self-esteem too (which is bad for so many reasons!)
Failure is data. Wow. Idin, you always have the right words to describe what needs to be said, and I'm sure you put in a lot of thought into the video creation process. That was incredible.
Make sure you don't pin your self-worth to this process. It's really risky to do that. Use the sheet that's linked in description box and see if that helps at all! 🙏
I learnt this concept called Divine Timing the other day, and I find myself processing rejections through that lens. But otherwise, loved all the points you raised. It's important to understand that rejection is part of the process.
Thanks, Annie. Just read up on Divine Timing now and it seems like a really interesting model! Honestly, anything that can help with the burden of rejection is a great addition in my view. 🙏
I'm glad you think so. It's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that this application process is everything in life. Hopefully the process helps you 🙏
😢😢😢this makes me wanna cry! Thank you for sharing your experience, Idin! I like what you said about bouncing back muscles! It makes receiving rejections sound a lot cooler lol
Haha thank you for the comment :) And glad you liked that 'framing' - I honestly do think it's important cause in your career you'll be getting rejected for more stuff so it's helpful to be resilient to it. For example, I applied for a client secondment at my firm last year and so did two others. I didn't get it but was not too badly affected by the rejection (probably helped by my history of rejections lol).
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Rianna! Yeah, I think the mental challenges of the application process are often overlooked, so this way of building your self-esteem seemed to me like a good practical exercise!
I needed this. Thank you so much. I got so many rejections as a second year. I'm in my final year and don't know if I'll get a TC or VC but videos like yours help a lot! I did have one question: when did you finally get a TC or VC? Was it once you graduated? BC that's when I think I might get mine haha. Still have tons more rejections to go though I guess
Hey - thanks so much for your comment. In answer to your question , I graduated in 2017 and started my TC in September 2020. I promise you that this is more normal than you think while you're at uni. People have done cool things, worked other jobs or even completely changed careers in between uni and starting their legal careers. There's really no rush to start. 🕒 Good luck on your final year at uni. Your offer will come 🤞
Hey guys - I've gone for a slightly different editing style this time, so let me know what you think! 💭
