    From UBNT for using the AR feature:
    "The latest version of WiFiman for both iOS and Android must be connected to a UniFi Access Point and be on the same network as a supported UniFi OS Console: UDM | UDM Pro | UDM SE | UDR
    Support for UCK-G2-Plus coming soon."

    This sort of works, although their video shows it drawing in all the walls and so on... which it def doesn't. However as you can't get a true picture because of the switching, a better option is something like netspot. it will work on ALL networks, show you other neighbours signals, and you put up a map, then walk around, and then you can see each AP individually across the whole map. No having to switch between AP...

      I haven't heard of Netspot, so will check that out too.

    From this data you need to ‘enable minimum RSSI’ to swap over between APs or where the swap should/could be.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  2 дня назад

      What does that do? And I can't find any RSSI option either. More details please.

      @@LarsKlintTech tap on an AP in the console, click the cogs ⚙️ then Radios.
      Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) is a value indicating the perceived signal level of a wireless client from the AP's perspective. The Minimum RSSI value is set individually on each AP and indicates the minimum signal level required for a client to remain connected.
      The main purpose of this is to assist with a client's roaming between two nearby APs. It prevents a device from getting "stuck" connected to the initial AP at a weaker signal strength as opposed to roaming to a new AP that may be more optimal. Once the signal drops below the Minimum RSSI value set, the initial AP will kick the client so that it can reconnect to the new AP.

      @@a9503128 Thanks a ton for explaining that. I will have a play with various settings for the RSSI to see if I get a better experience. I guess if I set it too low, that could also adversely affect coverage.

      @@LarsKlintTech Use the data, example walk from AP1 to AP2 and measure, then when connected to AP2 walk back to AP1. If for example your number is 50 for each AP at the mid point then 60 would be a reasonable number.
      It’s not an exact science because all sort of devices make all sorts of different implementations of 802.x to save battery life etc but all I’d be aiming for is handing off to another AP above the 70 for a better performance

    Are you using an Android phone (you didn't say)? With iPhone, the signal mapping feature requires connection of a Ubiquiti Unifi WiFiMan Wizard box, which costs $99 in the USA but $238 in the UK.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  Год назад

      Yep, in this video it is a Pixel 5, but I now have a pixel 7 Pro. I don't think you need the box if you have a UDM Pro or SE, or a UDM. The Wizard box is for advanced signal mapping making it more accurate.

    Will this work with the google Wi-Fi or do I need a special router or other devices ?
    I’d like this to help slightly move a google mesh where a group of walls eg ensuite walk in robe could be hindering signals

      Hi Brett. Good question. You need to have a UniFi OS Console, such as the UDM, UDM Pro, UDM SE, or UDR.

    Cool but doesn't really work for homes. It does the heat map but doesn't detect any walls or even rooms and it does a poor job at detecting dirction. Starting and ending at the same spot showed up on the app as me being at different ends of the house.
    I doubt I will use it past this first try unless I'm bored in the airport or something.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  2 года назад +1

      It isn't meant for detecting walls, but rather how strong a signal is in a specific place. The AR layer is a bit gimmicky, and when it gets the direction wrong, it kinda loses some of the shine. However, it can give a good overview of where the signal is poor in a location.

    So once you map out using the vr, can you export that map? I can't figure out what to do after to save the information for later use.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  2 года назад +1

      Not currently, no. However, the idea is to get an immediate idea of where coverage is, so you would probably do this AR exercise when troubleshooting and figuring out what extra equipment is needed. Agree though that an export features, maybe even into Unifi Design Center, might be useful.
