    I’m so thankful every time I hear Dr. Kelly. His knowledge and words have given me great comfort for quite some time now. It is tough to find people in the medical community who get TBI like he does. Until I saw a neuropsychologist at Wake Forest, I was so desperate for understanding, that videos like this were all that kept me from thinking I was a lost cause. Just really grateful he speaks this truth so brilliantly.

    The "system" is catching up a century too late, for it was 1928 when a cranial surgeon identified Shell Shock from WWI as being in need of further research of brain injury. I believe confusion/connection to what is now labelled as PTSD is also an impediment to appropriate treatment regimes. Recognise for openers that a primary blast wave from battlefield explosives, when a person is within 100m, is travelling and hitting the soldier, at 6,000 to 8,000 m/s! I'd reckon a good start point is to drop the term "mild"!

    Quit with the use of "mild" especially if you don't use any scale to differentiate

      I'm guessing "Mild" means that it affects the human and can be detrimental but there is still hope for recovery. Anything worse than "Mild" would be someone who cannot recover from their brain injury or must take an extensive amount of time for recovery.

    For the people in the comments that are suffering from post-concussive syndrome: there is something you should try that may help lessen or get rid of the post concussive symptoms you are experiencing. From personal experience, seeing an osteopath and cranial sacral therapist made me feel the same as I did before the concussion (the problems with cognitive function and vision were completely gone after my 3rd session with an osteopath).
    Head trauma can causes misalignments of the cranial bones which effect the proper flow of blood and cranial fluid to the brain. Restoring the proper alignment can help with the symptoms of a concussion. I'd strongly recommend that anyone with post concussion syndrome see an osteopath or cranial sacral therapist with 10+ years of experience.

      Josh Jones is cranial sacral the same as Upper cervical chiropractic? My chiropractor told me the same thing about my "blood flow" but I still don't feel 100% better.

    Since being hit on the head with a heavy curtain rail I have suffered severe forehead migraine, forehead swelling and feeling as if I am moving in slow motion. Why do I feel like my body is moving in slow motion?

    • @Nougat2010
      @Nougat2010 10 лет назад

      It could be that your spatial reality is off. Not sure if it is the same thing as you are experiencing but the brain's signals do not accurately respond or relate to ones surroundings, which can give the feeling of trying to move through water or unsure where/how to place ones feet leading to missteps. Very aggravating because there is no warning.

    • @petfan2948
      @petfan2948 10 лет назад

      NouCoo Thank you for your reply. I have the feeling even when I am sat down. I get tingles in my hands and feet and then my brain seems to think my body is moving in slow motion. It feels as if my arms and legs can't move at their proper speed, then I feel as if I've just got off a fair ride and I'm disorientated and feel like I'm swaying. It starts just before I get a migraine and the sensation lasts until about 4-6 hours after the migraine, sometimes longer. My doctor said I need a scan, as I also have bilateral tinnitus and I am slowly going more deaf. However, she's told me the specialist has to refer me for a scan, but the specialist said the doctor has to refer me to a neurologist first. So much for the British Health Service !

      Hello, Thank You for your advice. My doctor is sending me to see a neurologist. Could you please tell me what tests he will perform and what questions he will ask me?
      Thank You

    • @Nougat2010
      @Nougat2010 10 лет назад +2

      There are many, many tests that the neurologist could perform, so I can only go by what I have had. They should start out with basic balance checks, reflexes and checking your motor skills by simply watching you walk and turn, excetera. An MRI or CAT scan may be ordered as well as an EEG, which measures the electrical activity of your brain ( always hate having to get out the sticky gooey stuff that gets in your hair). Your ears, sinuses and decision should be given a once over.
      Another important thing is to
      pay attention, as closely as possible, to what else is happening when you have one of these episodes. For example; activity, time of day, meals, stress, medication or supplements taken and any other details, can help guide the doctor in the right direction. Vague or imprecise answers only slow things down for both you and your doctor. I actually kept a log with information such as time, severity, and length of event, and included comments about any additional information, even if it seemed unimportant or unassociated.
      Hope all this makes sense and hope everything goes well. Please keep in mind that answers may not come as quickly as you may like, for an impatient person like me learning to be patient is not in the least bit easy. I have a saying: "Be calm, be strong, be grateful.", that helps me to cope just a little bit better.

    VA reps are kids going through med school. We don't have smart, accomplished men like the white dude. The VA is staffed by a bunch of undergrads. We need more funding.

    That's an interesting statistic that traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death in patients between 15 and 45. I would think this is largely due to these are the years that we are the most physically active.

    This is crazy. I got into a sledding accident back in Feb. I was being a dare devil and went off a pretty steep hill, on a tractor tube. My brother and other family members watching near by figured I was going about 20-30 mph... I got off track and ended up hitting this 55 gallon ( full ) drum of oil that was layin down near by.. I didn't see it because it was snowing and of course I was sliding backwards at the time. I hit the back left side of my head, it knocked me out for a bit, I woke up feeling extremely sick to my stomach, very upset, couldn't remember anything, it took me a few days to piece together the events. I ended up being diagnosed with a concussion, had 15 staples in my head, and two stitches on the side, as well as 9-10 stitches inside the cut, a wrist brace on my left arm, two cracked ribs... Thank God i didn't break my neck. or Die. I had x-rays and CAT scans but my brain looked good. months later, I notice that I feel like Im having a lot of mood swings, I feel like my fuse is super short. I feel irritable all the time...I'm just debating on whether or not this is just a common case of mild depression or if I should be getting in contact with someone about my previous injury. I still have mild aches that occur right where the injury happened, right at the back of my head on the left side, it feels tender still and aches and throbs. The injury occured in feb and here we are in September and I'm still feeling it.

    It's so strange when ppl don't want society to tell them what to do yet it's society who is going to have to pay thru taxes for their recovery and disability after an injury from those risks.
