100% when I was a kid and my dad passed the car he built he always said it was to go to my brother or myself his side of the family sold the car to pay for funeral costs 3 weeks after being picked up it was written off in a single car accident I’ve always had a weird sense that he influenced the crash somehow

I lost my mom exactly a year ago. Never once had I treated any of her coworkers friends or business team like shit when I couldn’t get her tax papers on time. “Oh well illl wait till next year for them. No rush.” Grieving doesn’t give you a right to be a full on jackass. Smh hope your eye gets better and you me team get well from the virus.

Exactly. An old friend snapped at me over my dog that I got from him. His excuse was "I almost lost my brother" which wasn't actually his brother. I did loose my brother before that incident and never treated anybody differently. Loss or paint doesn't excuse you being an ass.

Two things to take away from this story:
    1. One impatient, non-understanding customer won't put you out of business, and
    2. Be careful with your stress levels and blood pressure Will!! My grandmother used to have that same issue with the blood vessel bursting in her eye. It's not something to play around with!
Keep up the good work though, and continued success to you and the guys at @conceptiii 👍

Love the doctor analogy and that’s what I tell people about cars. It’s very similar on how they operate. You have a patient that needs help and the main mechanic is the doctor, then there are the nurses trying to find out what is going on with the patient. Instead of medicine that humans need, they need parts.

Hey man, I've been in IT for 27 years. The one thing I had to learn was setting my boundaries. If I'm working on a server that has crashed I have got to have my mind focused with zero distractions. I don't let them control the situation, I don't let them hanging around bother me, I flat out will ignore people. Stone cold will pretend like they do not exist even if they are tapping my shoulder. It has calmed me way down. I don't take the stress home with me. I just set my priorities and boundaries and they can either deal with it or go somewhere else.
My advice to you is do the same as me. Stay focused on what you are needing to get done and ignore all distractions. You'll live longer.
All that said, I've no clue where you are located but I wish you the best. If it were me, I wouldn't even have bothered to give those sons and step dad the time of day with this video response. They don't deserve your attention. Keep on doing what you enjoy and know that you are doing things the best you can. Nobody is perfect and we all learn something new everyday.

The fact that this man took at least an hour out of his incredible busy schedule to personally address his community about the impact of this 1 customer and his family reflects more than any tech I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Audio, luthiers, light duty mechanics etc.. This man is essentially a father to all of us aspiring techs (no matter the field)mechanics and specialist to set the standard that gets lost in the minutia of the job. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.

As a service advisor for a dealership, I get these experiences constantly. Hate us in the industry all you want but at the end of the day you came to us for help. We did not force you to come. We are human as well so tread people how you want to be treated. Society has become such a microwave society where everything must be completed within the length of a Tiktok. All I see out of your content Will is to one day hope you guys work on my personal vehicle. New subscriber here. This story absolutely broke my heart. Not just for the old man who passed, but for you and your wife. Those sons are just absolutely entitled brats who just have their heads so far up you know where that oxygen cannot do it's job. I did service writting for just under a year and thankfully I never had to deal with anyone that bad, but you did not deserve the treatment that you got. It's also insane how little the general public do not know about how cars work. Keep doing what your doing, at the very least your training and teaching a new generation and they appreciate it, I appreciate it. And when time allows, keep making content.

I had a boss who was the same way about running his business. He wears every hat. It got so busy and stressful that he promoted me and gave me a raise just to take the load of dealing with troublesome clients. If they asked to speak to the owner, for all intents and purposes, I was the owner. His blood pressure reflected his appreciation.

I do not own a shop but have been in customer service based jobs almost my whole adult life and can safely say I've been in similar frustrating situations. I feel for you man I may not be a mechanic by trade put me and my dad have done a lot of work on cars since almost every car we've ever owned have been a used one and it's always been easier for us to do it but we know when it's time to let an expert deal with it and when we do let an expert we respect that expert and let them deal with it we might have a timeline that we want it but we know that we can't always be on our timeline if I was ever in California I would trust you with my car knowing full well that it may take a month 2 months maybe a year but I will get it back from you and you will tell me exactly when it's working don't let this one interaction ruin everyone take care of yourself your videos are awesome it's always fun to see you in the shop this was not a waste of anyone's time thank you for sharing

You can still leave a bad review if your complaint is real/experienced it first hand because naturally customer's feedback drives you to do/strive better, but if you just do it just because of petty things then that's the only time people should leave Yelp and Facebook for the reviews.

  • @jameschance5484
    @jameschance5484 10 месяцев назад +5

As much as I'd hate to say it, running a business is a delicate balance.
Unfortunately sometimes you need to fire a customer, even if indirectly. It's okay to tell a customer hey, I don't advise taking this car but *as long as the bill is paid* here's a disclaimer and release, sign this, if it blows up, it's not on us. Do what you will.
It isn't your job to teach a customer how a car works, nevermind a highly modified, boosted application. If they bring it to you that means they trust you to work on it, regardless of the mechanical aspects. If that trust disappears (or the person) then all you can do is your best (it sounds like you did) and after a certain point, you can tell them look, here's the bill, pay the bill and you can have the keys after signing this disclaimer and be done with it.

He purchased a perfectly good low mileage vehicle from me. A private car sale away from my shop, and because he messed around with the vehicle and I didn’t want to fix it for free, he made up a google review and I never responded.
All my customers love my shop and work.

These are one of the reasons why I went into IT instead of being a mechanic. By the sound of it, you need a full time front man who is mechanically knowledgeable and another master tech to pick up the load. That should help in these situations and streamline the shop a little.

At every automotive shop there WILL always be the one customer/member that will be a difficult experience. Best thing is to let them go and don't take it personally, been there before and it degrades a person down more that some may think. Stuff can get out of hand very very fast!!!! Sorry to hear! These new cars can be very difficult sometimes when it comes to diagnosis! Sometimes it’s easier to just take in the easier work instead of the others that turn into a head ache. Hope it all gets resolved and stuff starts flowing smoothly and stress eases up

You did the right thing man - you're a shop owner and doing your job. Customers need to understand and stand back. Either take the car and go or leave it and pay for the repair.
Bad customers are bad customers, regardless of grieving. If they don't understand car lingo, not your problem.
Just read the review as well - they don't post anything that has any and all concrete evidence. The story painted is twisted. So I see why you have to post a video.
Fair and decent response. Fair and understanding.

I had a customer come in and say we gave him a flat tire when he came in for a front windshield lol..........the tire had a sharp wood screw in it. I said sir, we do auto glass here not construction. I said ill have my shop neighbor plug it for you and ill pay, which I did. Then he went on to give us a 1 star for not giving him a new tire. He also tried to contest the credit card charges which he lost. what a scumbag.

Been watching your channel for a month now but couldn't pinpoint why I loved the channel. and drawn to it. I did figure it out today. I love the channel because I see a lot of Will in me. A lot of people who are hard-working with high morals and integrity in America can also relate to Will. With that said, as a businessman, it's a constant battle to balance business operations with the customer service piece. It's even harder to balance in addition to the emotion, ignorance, delusion, and unrealistic expectations of humanity. You can thank human evolution for that but to combat that you have to continue with the videos. What people see still supersedes what isolated negative hearsay they may have. I wouldn't even believe the 1-star review because I have watched the videos. Actions speak louder than words.

I work in a smaller shop and some customers have no respect and blame things on us too that we DID NOT do even tho we are transparent with them let them in the shop to show the problem. and some talk soooo much my boss cant even get the time of day to work on a car or help in the shop sometimes like u said. I respect the hustle will. You are good. Wish i could see you guys but i live in Ontario Mississauga. Keep things up!

Man… the age of instant gratification needs to tone down when dealing with people and especially when dealing with a car. I recently found your channel and wish like hell that I had a shop owner like you and your team in my town. I hate the idea that I have to go back to the Kia dealership for an oil change, fuse checks and anything else that they “find”. Last time I took my car in, they commented on how nice my tires looked since they were brand new. I had told them not to touch them since they were new. By the time I got home, my low tire sensor started going off. I checked the pressure, filled my tires since they were a few pounds down on each. I drove my car around the block until the sensor went off and didn’t think anything of it. Next morning, getting ready to leave for work, low tire pressure sensor is back on. Checked the pressure and more than 5 pounds down on each. My neighbor asked if I had checked the valve stems, brought over his tool and found all 4 had been loosened. Needless to say, I was beyond livid and felt so taken advantage of by a dealership.

The thing that sucks about situations like this is, most shops that do this type of work tend to stop doing repairs and only performance upgrades and oil changes because people do stupid stuff and take advantage of small quality shops like this. Wish you guys the all the best and love the content!

I'm sure you guys run a great shop! One thing I have learned from working in corporate management is that clear communication is important. Sometimes, we do need to take that time to speak with those certain customers. "Making that time" to confront the issue will cut down the road issues. Sounds that family was filled with d bags.

My father has been in this biz longer then I have been alive (40 plus years), but also with my experiences being around shops and around cars as well. I can tell you, people are super entitled when it comes to their property. They expect you to drop everything when they have an emergency. Because some people a car is their only livelihood, to get from point A to B, going to work, going shopping, whatever. So when it comes to a broken car, they completely become self entitled, equally self absorbed in their own problems that they have tunnel vision and cannot comprehend others issues. They just want you to just plug in and "just look real quick" when 9 times out of 10, a quick look don't work. When you say "I have 2 cars ahead of you I cannot help you right now until I have a free spot", they go completely mad.
They don't know how long it takes to diagnose a car. They really think you can just plug it into a computer and it tells everything wrong. Most times yes but sometimes that's not always the case, some car problems have a cause and effect, something else related to the problem could make the car throw a code for a unrelated problem. It does happen. It can sometimes take days to discover all the issues. But the amount of times we hear customers say "well its this and that" and most of us here can agree, that we do not take the customers word, that's the worst thing you can do as a mechanic. We do our own investigation. I have to say though when it comes to being in this kind of show, people are so entitled and downright unreasonable

And thats why i could never be a business owner. I hate dealing with difficult people. Way i see it you have 2 options: you talk to me and nothing gets done or i get it done then i talk to you. Customer service is a hard gig. Especially when the industry youre in is highly technical. Trying to teach a guy who doesnt know a spark plug from an oil plug about a complex misfire sounds like a nightmare and i dont blame you for not going down that path. You guys do good work and a review from someone who just wants to sell the car for a quick buck isnt worth the stress.

I manage a repair shop I am also one of two mechanics we have I feel your pain sometimes there is just nothing you can do. All we can do is our best to help the customer understand and its not easy and again some times its just not possible. To people reading this comment that are on the customer side understand we try our best to explain things in terms people can understand its not easy if we start saying things you dont understand we arent trying to confuse you some times its just not easy
