Good vid. I think a lot of people focus on Leo's offense when talking about his strengths because it's very in-your-face, but a big portion of his strength relative to the rest is how tough he is to crack defensively/how high risk it is to pressure him, which you covered really well. Just a small correction at 6:10 - 5H isn't actually a disjoint. His only disjointed normals outside of stance are the guard point followup, 2S, and j.H (and 6P obviously). (Edit: also apparently 2H is disjointed directly above Leo - TIL)
One thing not mentioned here, but very important: Leo has good reward off of light buttons. 5p>5p>5p>236s gives a knockdown, which is great in its own right... But remember that point about that dash momentum? Well, if you time it correctly, dash boosted 236h will let you run through them, and get a backturn without getting wakeup grabbed. Sure, it might lose to invincible reversals... but it's still an option that your opponent will need to be watching for after you represent it.
Do u know how close u gotta be to get two 5p let alone 3 my boy lol And yeah he covers a lot of space it’s nothing compared to nago beyblade hell ky momentum slide RC has way more utility and way harder to react to
@@Allothersweretakenn okay, so 5p>5p. Or ch 5p>6k>236s. Or anything really. If you want a different button, maybe 2k>6k, a common block string. Anything that leads into 236 will do it they're reasonably close. It's not about space coverage, it's about getting a ungrabbable backturn after 236s.
Hey LK, do you have any plans on making videos about general defensive counterplay for characters in Strive? You mentioned how Leo could lose on his own offense a couple times in this video and going more in depth with stuff like that would be cool to see/watch.
Mind he has recently started maining Baiken. And her parry is active frame 1 vs Leo active frame 3. I think Leo's lasts longer though since it's only active frames 1-6. So fast that the running joke with Baiken parry is "if you see it, she whiffed it."
My friend and I played Leo and Millia respectively and I just laugh at some of the stuff I remember him saying. Like when the devs buffed him to have an easier time in neutral opening people up in which every pro at the time were confused at that yet he was like "he so needed this". Playing a more volatile character and being subjected to this bundle of ape steroids I still have flashbacks, was a blast.
Also side note as a Leo player. Just to mention as of the last patch I believe, his guard point stance has Armor on it too (The follow up) because more Def to fuel his offense.
I've been playing Leo since release, and while Dustloop says 5H is not a disjoint honestly I can't recall a time it's been exposed, the later active frames counterhit pretty much every attempt I've seen at even 6P'ing it and the reward off counterhit almost anywhere on the screen is nuts, round ending a lot of times. 15 frame startup but illegal move nonetheless.
I-No has good grounded options vs Leo's guard stance, stroke being the main one. The stance is really good vs air options, but getting them out of that habit is worthwhile.
5h is not a disjoint to my memory, and it has two versions that will come out depending on what the opponent is doing. The version that beats 6p only seems to come out when the opponent hits 6p or when you do low profile moves like stroke and vortex
Let me preface my question with this: I'm a casual scrub. Could you explain a little more about why guard point is so hard for characters like Sol and Milia to fight against?
In Sol's case, a lot of his main poking tools are mids, the guard point is 0 and basically can't be whiffed punished on reaction. For Millia, she doesn't have a fast long range low, so she has to engage a char that gets his win condition off the majority of his hits + wins in damage risk/return
If I'm not mistaken, he's +5 after the stance overhead when stance cancelled, right? Although, leaving brynhildr stance may not be the greatest idea for him
As a first to guilty gear. Leo played the game for me and taught me basic offense defense of guilty gear. Than I switched to Nago as he looked like a cool character. But this guide makes.me wanna go back to leo
This video was cathartic. Leo gets a lot of shit and this video picks apart what's deserved and what's not. Acknowledging that Leo is generally strong in most stages of the game (like most top tiers, I believe) while still pointing out his differing mobilities lacking areas and especially that his "strong" neutral tools are strong in specific matchups and not just all of them like many say and especially that even though backturn can be crushing, it's way more escapable than most advantage states if you're practicing sometimes no matter how much you lab, ram corner pressure or Nago corner looping pressure can just blow you up. A lot of the time you can flowchart backturn even if you aren't at a high-level and can just IBFD like the pros can (I know I can't.) Pure opinion from here: I think that in the most recent patch Leo definitely undeservedly got some of it worst among most of the top tiers, as they nerfed both the way to get into the win condition as well as the win condition itself not to mention a lot of his combo variety. This made him way less fun to play, imo. Wonderful video, I've been praying for it and it did not disappoint.
Its more about having good pressure, decision making and knowledge checks than combos. I guess charging inputs through combos was kinda hard for me but that depends on your skill.
In general. Learn the corner loops, learn the basic stuff you do off of most situations. Understand that your damage often comes from exiting backturn but you will sometimes get corner carry from a full backturn combo.
I started playing Testament against my friend who only plays Leo even though no one has fun playing against him. He has yet to win a set of 5 against me. Feelsgoodman
Leo is sick, I have no idea why he's one of the lesser played characters considering he's very good and not hard to use. Is it because he's a stance character and people are afraid it will be difficult?
He turned less auto pilot since last patch. You can't just just win every ground neutral with 2D anymore since it's much easier to punish and you can safejump more reliably against him due to his flashkick nerf. Also turbulenz nerf means that you can't get free mix off of every hit anymore.
@@HellecticMojo I like those changes. Been Leo for a out a year now. I like that it pushes me to be more creative on offense. But even with the nerfs, dude is still one of the best.
About Sol not being able to deal with Leo's guard points: can't he actually do HMC? It'll autoguard the followup and Leo can't jump out of it. I guess if he had meter to Roman Cancel it then it wouldn't be a good idea, but otherwise...
@@WookieChoi j.K twice on heavies only... It works consistently midscreen, on heavies, because there's less knockback.
