just finished installing this from yall and man is the fitment kind of wack lol, the c clamps are not enough to keep the rails from bowing from the pressure of the canvas and the bar on the back doesnt even reach my tailgate. It looks cool though so theres that
I went through three of these pieces of shit trying to install on my Tacoma... Everyone keeps tearing, breaking, bars bending, bolts breaking... The worst softop on the market right here!
I installed mine when it was cold so it caused things to bend too but I had extra clamps around from my old tonneau cover so that really helped it. Now summer heat has allowed my top to stretch it has helped alot. There instructions do say install in warm temps and I think that's the key.
They’re is a slight correction that needs to be addressed with the manual. 2nd gen Tacaomas are not the same as a 3rd gen. Manual and this video state that the tailgate bracket for a 2015 and up are the higher bracket. I found this to be incorrect, the 2015 is not the same as the 2016 and up (bed design is different). I used the lower brackets on my ‘15 and the tailgate bar fits much better with a seal tight fit.
Best install video!! Step by step and easy to follow! The only thing the quick connect for the wiring was not included in the kit. That’s the only negative thing I’d have to point out.
Bestop vs SoftTopper. Seems to me that because of a superior design the SoftTopper install is so much simpler as well is temporary removal. What do you think? The Bestop does have the advantage of removable windows which can be replaced when they crack in cold climates. The SoftTopper does not have side windows about witch to worry but limits the amount of light available if used for camping and the availability of side access.
I was weighing the pros and cons of both the Bestop Supertop and the Softopper and ultimately landed on the Bestop for two main reasons: 1) I like the option of the windows and the added visibility while inside the cover looking out and easier to see items inside during the day. If I want more security from people looking in, I could easily add some reflectix panels from the inside for full blackout. 2) I like the look of the "safari" mode better with the Bestop than the Softopper. The Softopper's "floating" roof just looks weird to me without the two columns of fabric in the back that the Bestop has. Also the powder coated black bars on the Bestop looks WAY better than the Softopper's shiny stainless steel. I'm sure Softopper owners love their Softoppers but Bestop Supertop just suits my needs better.
I just learned the hard way you cannot install one of these things in cold weather I thought this afternoon might be warm enough but really it was only about 57° the directions say that it Hass to be at least 72° or the fabric shrinks about an inch to an inch and a half which you totally did even though I kept the fabric inside until I was ready to drape it over The assembling bars on the truck. I either I got a find somebody with a heated garage or have to wait till spring. I should have investigated this a little bit more because I took my Tono cover off and now I’m thinking I probably will have difficulty trying to get that back on before the winter if it’s this cold
Definitely need to find a friend with a heated garage or bring a space heater into one! Same goes with the installation of Jeep soft tops, it's really a summer-time job. The warmer outside the easier to stretch the fabric over the bars. -Zach
Ok so today was a good 82 degree day to install the soft topper cap and still having issues installing. Feels like its still a few inches short for my five foot bed but i think i may be on to why. I rewatched your video and realized you mentioned the front bulkhead cap under the rear window. Mine is missing. Whoever owned the truck before me had one of those trucks Cito bed covers and I think they removed that front bulkhead cover so the truxedo kit would fit. I see i have some bolt holes and it dips down a few inches from the side rail caps. This could be my problem so when I’m going to try to do is replace it if it’s not too expensive or build it up with pressure treated 2 x 4 just so I can put the Velcro piece and still have protection with the material overlap that hangs on the outside of the truck bed under the rear window
Thanks for the video. They should just put a link to this instead of directions in the box. Save some paper. I think I added the last 33 views double checking my install. Thanks~
I think if bestop made the rails universal for a topper and the bed flat cover it would have been great in my opinion since they make it easy to disassemble
Just ordered it. I already have a tonneau cover but I need more height to keep some tools in bed overnight sometimes. I wish there was an option to get blacked out back windows so no one can peak inside my bed.
@@hunterhughes2752 great so far. I had two issues. I noticed a small scratch on the back window, I didn't see an issue till I finished install and looked at it more closely and it was a small puncture. Emailed Bestop and they sent out a new one. Second issue was a few months in I noticed the front of the cover right on top of the clear window was wrinkled when it used to be stretched. I left it alone for a bit and it got worse. I looked at it from the inside and noticed the bar had somehow gotten loose and collapsed. It has a hole where this other bar had this pushable button on it. I tried to stretch it back but was strong enough, luckily I work at a body shop and had tools to help me push it apart to get that button to snap back in. Well it happened again not long after so again I stretched it back out then shot a small self tap screw to keep it from doing it again. The rest of the top has been great, I've taken the back window on and off a few times and gone about 30k miles with it through strong wind, 110mph hr driving lol and hail. Held up really well except for those other listed issues.
Weird in the video it says “2015 and newer use higher tab” for that corner and when I install it there is a solid almost 1 inch gap across the tailgate. My taco is 2015 short bed. Was I supposed to use short corner?
I have tried and tried to get the bar that seals the bed to slid into this tab ypu speak of I have loosened the rails and moved all kinds of stuff around what am I doing wrong
@@sucha603boy Thank you for being honest.... Nobody thus far has been able to figure out the bar... There are several slots along the bar and only one rubber seal and slide for the top.... Yet, NO one has been able to figure it out... I just might order a 4th just to send it back in disgust...

Not a great wire job poor quality wire ends not weather proof. Best Top should give plug & play so everything is done right & sealed from weather & short circuit. Poor planning best top. Great install job on canvas top. Thanks
Hate to bust your bubbles but this top is made too small. Zippers wont line up and the frame clamps don't hold the ralils to the Tacoma... The entire thing is bowed when installed and will go flying off the truck in a wind... HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.....
I agree fully . Ive had the top in blazing sun two days finally got almost all of it assemble to back of truck but the damn zippers i cannot pull pieces clise enough to close and zip up so there will be massive wind resistance at the back side windows. And i cant even join the rear window. I am going to buy extra clamps as i do not trust the measly 4 that come with it. Id never buy this again. Terrible product . They could have added just an inch more material in every direction to avoid the headache of tring to stretch the fabric to work. Im afraid to see how this shrinks during winter months. Its gonna pull away from the brackets.
I had issues with my first unit not fitting, contacted Bestop with my issues and they asked that I send pictures of the problems I was having, I did so and they honored the warranty and sent me and entire new setup. Second unit fit great. I had my doubts too about these softops, so many complaints as there are positive feed backs. I gave them a second chance and they stepped up and got it right. I was told by the company that these units are done by hand for most of the fabrication. My first units frame was not bent properly and seemed to be short. The fabric seemed to be too tight also, the replacement went right on and was half the battle to fit. Now if it holds up long term I’ll be happy.
False, I had mine in the near 24 hr Alaskan summer sun and rain. Took it on a road trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage and back. Approx. 700 miles round trip. Top speed over taking a logging rig, 95 miles per hour, did not "fly-off". It is surprising aerodynamic that I marked the frame of it to monitor slip and line stayed solid. Long story short, you don't have first-hand experience and/or didn't take the time to install it properly.
