    Thomas thank you so much for all your posting, and your willingness to share your knowledge without holding anything back. I love this video and would like to see more where you paint in this manner. It would be great if you could walk through your colour mixes at the beginning so that I can have all I need to follow along with this. Thanks again - love what you’re doing here!

      Hi There, You can now download all the source images used in this video and the other challenges (this challenge pack includes a colour mixing guide). Just go to www.paintinglab.com and click the image you want to paint from. We will also post a separate paint mixing video for each challenge. Best wishes. Chloe

    For me, this was the most instructive so far, of the episodes I was able to pull up. it shows well the relationship between the mirror and the actual painting surface. I am concluding that the reference image must be approximately the same size as the what's being painted. I built my own comparator mirror today and will be able to use it as soon as I can build up my confidence. I will start with gouache and look again at James Guerney's video. He is very good. Color mixing and selection will be challenging for me.

      Hi larry! Thanks so much for this comment. Do look out for accompanying colour mix video if you are struggling with that particular challenge. Good luck!

    I am trying to see how and understand how to start with the outside edges, which don't seem to rely on the mirror, and move from that to the interior, as well as the larger applications of color from which an actual image will emerge!

      Hi Larry. You could be very accurate with your edges if you wanted to be. However, in this version im blurring everything, starting in a very approximate way and tightening up with each layer in imitation of painting from that period. Not my normal technique at all though. Maybe i should do a second version as i would normally paint this picture. Good luck anyway and do get in touch if you need anything. T

    If I'm not mistaken, it looks like the original painting is in reverse from your painting. What is the best way to correct this issue?

    • @paintinglabofficial
      @paintinglabofficial  2 года назад +2

      Absolutely correct. I made no effort to correct this as its importrant to distinguish my painting from the original (its also a slight joke). To correct simply reverse your source image. Most copy shops will do this easily and everyone who has signed up to www.paintinglab.com will receive my image in the correct and reversed format. Many thanks tomas

    Is it possible to use the comparator mirror for plein air?

    • @paintinglabofficial
      @paintinglabofficial  2 года назад

      Hi Dougall, this is difficult in a straightforward setup. BUT there are ways to make plein air painting possible. Tomas will be exploring this in his 4th 'How to build' video which will be out in august of 2022.

    Really inspiring videos. I tried a wireless joypad with Clip Studio Paint macros to move a 'virtual mirror' around for a digital version of a comparator mirror painting-here is an early result: ruclips.net/video/oKcOaz8uCiw/видео.html (Might post a making-of follow up.)
