I’ve had mine about 2 years. It’s great. It’s had a hard life but so far still works fine. It’s been dropped a few times and got wet many times. Only problem is that I’ve managed to switch it on full power accidentally - it gets very hot when left like that. But no damage.
I'm not up on the specifics that make a good tactical light, however, my buddy is. last night he showed this to me, and I immediately had to have one. my old cheapy is on it's last leg and after playing with this torch it was time to step up. for me it's an amazing tool, and I in particular LOVE the switch system. easy, one handed operation. Amazon says I'll have it Tuesday, just in time for deer season. thank you for the well edited review, as it just gets me more excited to receive this bad boy! (by the way, my friend is also very high on the batteries that are supplied with this model.)
Thank you for showing me how to get into daily mode. I have been looking everywhere for a while. I’m how to do this… I’ve had this light for a few years now and this makes it a lot more useful as a general purpose light around home outside.
Hey Mr Baz, I am looking for a suggestion. I am (and have been for some time) looking for a tactical torch such as this one with specific requirements, I was hoping you would be able to make a couple suggestions? I want a torch must haves: 5 to 6" in length, has two tail switch (as this one does) a zoom for focus feature, 900 lm or over and strobe. Ideally it will also have a UV feature. no more than 1.25" at the head of the light. Any help with this would be great. Thank you
Only problem is that not too many have the UV that I have used only a few of the key ring type ones. There are a few zoom ones that were pretty good, none I've used with the dual switches on the base/tail cap. Fenix do a few again not in that tactical type I have used. Least not with two switches.
@@MrBazReviews Yea, I understand the UV is a minor use for me however, and that would be an extra, I just figured you were somewhat of an expert and maybe had more knowledge then I did. I have narrowed my search down and this one is a major contender. what other lights in the category would you compare to this one?
@@jmacdelivers3184 I've used a few, tricky for me to suggest anything. I like the paddle switches, but this isn't really a tactical torch it's more an EDC with a tactical layout/controls. This one is interesting if you like the UV aspect: www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-ld32-uvc-disinfecting-flashlight/ Otherwise it's down to more tactical type ones, whilst I like the paddle switches it's not a must have for me, I'm OK with a side/base switch for a tactical torch
How do one access the contacts in the tailcap? - what does the "torch never gets hot" mean? the body? - my xt2cr gets very hot after a couple of minutes, but thats mostly the head
What's the best battery to use in this light? I know 18650 size but 3600, 3500? I'm not well educated on different batteries or which company makes the best cell. Thanks. Edit: Given the time since you posted this video, do you have anything to add? If I am seriously considering purchasing this light would you have any similar lights you'd recommend I look at before I make my final decision? Thanks again.
You can use any 18650 but to get the highest output a higher capacity cell (ie 3500/3600) will work best. It will auto adjust output so it doesn't trip the protection on lower capacity ones. Or you can use IMR/INR unprotected cells just fine (again you'll get the best output with these too) At the end of the review you'll see my assessment of the torch I still stand by that months later. It's a good torch, though I try to always find areas I would tweak/change. Also worth considering the Olight Warrior M2R similar beam pattern, pros and cons comparing both
I've been torn between The XT2CR and the M2R. I like how easy to operate the Klarus is but hate the gap in lumens between high and turbo. Conversely, I love the lumen gaps on the M2R but it seems very complicated to operate. Additionally the M2R take the Proprietary magnetic charger whereas the Kalrus uses the common usb. Are you aware of any other offerings which may compete closely with these two? I was hoping a company got it right somewhere. I really appreciate you responding as I'm far less educated on these types of things than you are.
Those two are the closest match from the ones I have used. I prefer the warrior myself due to more power levels and the moonlight mode and the tint is warmer. Some might get on better with the Klarus really down to what you are looking for.
Mr Baz I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. One last question if it's not too much of a bother. Are you of the opinion that the cell this light ships with is top notch or would it be worth it to purchase an 18650 from a different maker. I'm interested in particular to know if any other cells would last longer before going flat or perhaps have an output closer to the stated 3600. Thanks again.
With any test there is a margin of error real world there is very little difference with the highest rated 18650's which are 3500/3600 I wouldn't lose sleep over it at all. Most of the cells are re-wrapped Panasonic ones be it Klarus, Rofis, Olight etc ie they are the best in terms of quality. Currently these cells are as good as it gets for capacity/performance for protected ICR cells. Newer unprotected cells are reaching similar capacities. One reason the top makers are more expensive..they use the best quality batteries
USB is always 5V standard charge, the battery termination voltage is 4.2V they are not related at all. Some phones charge at 12V, yet the Li-ion cells is not 12V it's about charging speed not the actual battery voltage
Yes it will work. Even if you use a quick charge adapter it only uses higher voltage if the device supports it, if not it uses 5V. USB is pretty much universal, nothing to go wrong really
Does anyone know how take apart/ get into right behind the LED.. started spasms between red and green lights(charging notification) and doesn’t work now.
@@Nathaniel-Heavyfoot If you have a record of the transaction that should do, could be paypal or something I would still get in touch with them maybe they can help
@@Nathaniel-Heavyfoot Sorry to hear about that honestly I've taken a step back from the company recently (sense things have changed in the management), but yes that is a warning sign to me and others.
Agree that it needs a 1lm mode but I'd also like to see around a 700 lm mode added as well. Those modes, paired with the dual tail switch system, and common usb charging, would make this light very near perfect imo.
Cool. Have you tried Zebralight brand? I have their torches and headlamps. I wish portable products today would drop AA batteries and go for one 18650 for better power.
@@WatsonWu About a month ago I emailed all the light makers I could think of, and got only 3 replies, Imalent wanted to offer discounted lights so no go there, Acebeam wanted no comparisons with other brands so I said no to them. Zebralight did reply but have not offered to send any in for review, and they're not so easy to get in Europe. So bar the odd one that turns up, it probably won't be tons in the future. Zebralight I was keen to look at because I liked their designs and thinking, but I don't have the resources to buy in lights at the moment for review - only some get good enough views to cover the cost unfortunately.
Klarus are not cheap though as with other makers the quality is there. It's about a normal price for a tactical torch from a tier one maker. Though there are cheaper alternatives around

It's an alright light for a smaller 18650 torch, they all get hot on turbo just the way it is

Not a problem you get used to changing the modes, but many just set it up as they like it.
this is my go to torch, great features for edc well made and weight with a nice range of options. great review Baz as always.
In outdoormode it should have instant low on the main botton and keep strobe on the other. This would be ideal for me.
Yes I think that might be a pretty good combination to have
I’ve had Klarus before. I really like the dual tail button and tail toggle.
They still have a similar one these days

Don't forget to ask and let your government in tke UK to ban flashlights over 1000 lumens and with crenulated bezel.
