It's really a pity that Oda use to be so squeamish about writing death scenes given how good he is at it. Yasuie, Hiriluk, and Whitebeard alone have to be some of the best written death scenes in media.
Oda says after a big battle he want to write a big party. If people die the party will be sad, it will not be a celebration but a wake.
Thats why u see alot of death in flashback but rarely any during current time. But i guess some is inevitable after all. Wano a few did die. Yasuie, izo, asura
It was because of that. Every death in One Piece has a significant impact. Or else it will become a cheap shock value like Akame Ga Kill.
It has both pros and cons tbh but this final saga we wil proly have more since there is no point in keeping the cards
Very true. Like they stand out so much, and there is always meaning behind the deaths Oda creates. I just love Oda's story telling in general. It's actually a shame most people wont give one piece a try because of the length or animation. I personally got into it, when it was barely at thriller bark back many years ago. But i feel even now I probably would have watched it because I love pirates, and because i love long animes. I actually prefer them over short ones. Because most times right when thngs are getting good, the anime is cut from the manga.

The land of Wano had to watch another one of its heroes fall down. Toko had to watch her father die. And Zoro had to watch the very first friend that he made in his land of ancestry (and also, without him knowing, one of the last two still-living relatives that he has) get killed.

Zoro is a Shimotsuki through his paternal grandmother's (Ushimaru's sister) side.

Yasuie went to the flower capital to commit robberies that why he was executed
Yasu went out like a true legend. Died so the revolt wouldn't be stomped. I think he regretted not dying with Oden back then. But here he was able to lay the groundwork for the retainers and Luffy to avenge Oden. This scene was both awesome and very sad.
Unfortunately Kanjuro the traitor was there, so he told Orochi everything and Yasuie's efforts somewhat went to waste...

Yasuie's sacrifice reached the heart of another one. One who stood close to the person he reviles with all his being for two decades, biding for the right time to bare his fangs.

Would have been nice if in the end of wano, chopper wouldve found out a cure for these laughing sickness. Really would have highlighted chopper more as a doctor. Ig laughter in this case isnt the best medicine
as wano arc ended , i dont think it was the real end of it , wano's people will come back as allies in the final war , so i think this issue is just on stand by but will be solved later by chopper since i think its an important part that can help him achieve his dream of curing any disease

Dude don’t start even start with that shit. Oda is still horrible with the fake out death scenes. I just rewatched alabasta and it was worse than I remembered. Chaka was believed to be dead so was Koza, in addition to Pell and Mr.8/Igaram. And all in one fell swoop Oda undoes their death scenes like one after another. Though the worst is Skypeia when it’s revealed that pretty much every single person Enel “killed” survived and Wyper kills himself with his Reject dial like 5 times. There’s Pound and Mr.2 who miraculously survive for no reason at all. The G8 marines who “sacrificed” themselves for captain Tashigi. There’s Law who gets his whole body shot up in front of the Dressrosa coliseum. And there’s probably more that I forgot to mention.
