Um….Joel….how physically fit to you have to be to drive a car? For 3.5 hours at near 200MPH….in the heat with no AC…..bumper to bumper, door to door. One may argue that a race car driver isn’t really an athlete, but a driver has to have nerves of steel and be physically fit to endure such a task.
Danica Patrick is perhaps the best know female driver that has competed in NASCAR. She was not the only one. She also competed in IndyCar. There have been female drivers in F1 as well.
I have been to nascar races and to F1 races. At the F1 race, people were really dressed up, and in the stands, the fans were quiet and sat there in their seats. At a NASCAR race, fans are up on their feed almost the whole race. They are cheering for their favorite drivers, and VERY involved in their race.
Leah! I'm so Happy you picked the Hendrick team! I grew up with Ricky Hendrick in Charlotte until 2004 when him and 8 family members and friends were killed in a plane crash in Martinsville, Virginia at a race... Ricky was a very nice guy and ran a dirt bike shop in Pineville, NC that I used to hangout at alot... I still have 2 of the dirtbikes in my garage to this day! Most of the Nascar race teams shops are around the Charlotte metro area like Kannapolis, Concord, Mooresville, etc. But all within 20-30 minutes of the Charlotte Motorspeedway that seats around 150,000 people at full capacity... The biggest stadium/speedway in the world is the Indianapolis Motorspeedway that is able to sit 450,000 at full capacity!
I've started watching NASCAR over the last two years and have absolutely fallen in love with it. It's an acquired taste for sure, but there is so many things happening at once that to me it doesn't feel like cars just going in circles. There are different storylines in each race, you've got up to 40 different drivers per race that you can follow and see how they are doing, and there are teams and different rivalries to pay attention to. For me it has been so much fun to learn it.
Former Indy Car driver Danica Patrick actually used to drive in the Cup Series. As far as I know of there is only one female driver and she races in the Nascar truck series. Her name os Hailie Deegan
The movie Heart Like a Wheel is about a female race car driver named Shirley Muldowney (if i remember correctly) and is portrayed by actress Bonnie Bedelia.
Shirley Muldowney was a N.H.R.A ( National Hot Rod Association) legend. She was the first woman to win the season championship. She won it three times. She drove in the fastest division which is top fuel dragster. She didn't drive in NASCAR or IndyCar races.
Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhart, Dale Waltrip....all legends of NASCAR. These cars go over 200 mpr, I don't think you would want your family in the car when they are racing LOL! This is a very dangerous sport!
Guy at driving simulator: Where you guys from? Lia: Australia! 🤭🤪 Guy: Australia! Nice, I could tell from that accent! Lia: Oh Yeah, you can tell straight away. 😈 Joel: 😏😆
Yes they are athletes! You try sitting in a car for hundreds of miles with little to no ac or a bathroom. It takes lots of stamina to drive one of those cars going hundreds of miles an hour. There are female drivers just not very many. It is a male dominated sport. I would have loved to have been a driver. It is National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. Some of my family were moonshine runners.
You make it sound like camping lol. I'm just kidding, so let me elaborate on OP. It takes tons of stamina, focus, maneuvering skill and teamwork between your wingman and most importantly the pit crew in order to inevitably win.
@@abelgreen5046 Let me guess you once drove over 50 mph on the freeway, and therefore know what it's like to drive a racecar at the limit of its capabilities
I'm not sure if you made the connection with bootlegging. "Stock Car" is a car that you can buy at your local dealership that is modified for speed, just like the bootleggers did back in the day.

Nobody mentioned Marcos Ambrose yet? Arguably the best known Aussie to have raced in Nascar. One of the most memorable wins in Nascar, when he won at Watkins Glen in 2012. Ovals are a unique style of racing. Rythm, smoothness are rewarded in oval racing. It's easier to watch in one sitting because it's all in front of you. It also rewards getting right on the edge of grip/speed due to the fact there are only 2-4 styles of corners, instead of a car being made to handle all kinds of corners.
Growing up in the South with everyone LOVING NASCAR...I think hearing Joel & Lia explain it is the best thing ever! Joel in the elevator saying he thinks the drivers get bored is exactly how I feel 🤣🤣

I used to watch NASCAR every Sunday with my father. Our driver was Dale Earnhardt, #3. He was called "The Intimadater". He got into a terrible wreck in Florida at Talladega track. The wreck took his life. That is one of the most dramatic day in NASCAR. That was the last time I watched a NASCAR race. And Lia, I think I remember hearing that there is/was a female who drives in NASCAR several years back and she did pretty well in the sport.

I was a huge NASCAR fan growing up. Cale Yarborough was hands down my favorite driver. He was the first driver to win 3 consecutive Championships. Once he retired, Jeff Gordon became my favorite. I've always pulled against the most popular and local favorites in all sports. Most everyone here in NC liked Dale Earnhardt so I pulled for the driver who became an hindrance to his dominance. That's also why I was a Yarbough fan. Just about everyone at the time were Richard Petty fans. And for someone most people pulled against. I'm not really a fan anymore since Jeff Gordon retired. And in the last decade plus, the CEO of NASCAR has implemented so many changes to the sport that he's ruined it in my opinion.
That's funny, I always thought Jeff Gordon was a whiney baby, a sore loser, I couldn't stand him. Was always an Earnhardt fan. I quit watching when Dale Jr joined Jeff's team, that's about the same time all the changes started to take place. Richard Petty is a legend!
@@heidimarchant5438 That's funny, I know that Dale couldn't win without wrecking other drivers. He was a mediocre, dirty driver who only won because NASCAR protected him. You and every Duhhh Earnhardt fan can argue till you're blue in the face that he wasn't a dirty driver. But guess what? His dirty driving is why he's no longer here. People can spin it and excuse it till dooms day and it will never change that FACT.. Yea Petty is a legend. So is every driver in the hall, including Duhhh. The only difference is Duhhh is a legendary dirty driver. Have a nice day.. 😊
@@DSWilkes Wow, I wasn't trying to be mean, just offering an opposing view. I guess Jeff Gordon fans act just like him. 😘I must admit I've never met any of his fans.
@@heidimarchant5438 If you re-read my original post all I said about Earnhardt was he was very popular so I pulled against him. That's it, nothing negative at all. That's too bad, you missed out on a lot of high class people. 🤫
Danica Patrick was a popular race car some years back. Definitely a one-off. Only female driver during her career and none stepped in to replace her once she retired but she did have a moderately successful career
Australia really guys come on ,you guys are awesome legends, I think that you learned something from the Nascar museum, you seem to have had a good time. 👍
Believe it or not, NASCAR racing basically started from bootlegging whiskey. These southern bootleggers would modify their cars to run extremely fast to outrun the law across county lines. People loved to watch these bootleggers race across the county lines to outrun the police. Look up a man by the name of Junior Johnson and you will see how it all started. The faster the cars, the faster the loads of whiskey could be transported.
The M&M car is driven on NASCAR by Kyle Busch, who is one of my favorite drivers. The owner of his team is Joe Gibbs who was an NFL coach here in Washington, DC and won 3 Super Bowls. He is in both the Pro Football and NASCAR Halls of Fame.

In the early days of this sport the cars were faster. They used to be able to go up near 200 miles an hour. The rules changed and they added parts to the engines that reduced the horsepower. They did not want drivers getting killed. But people do like the crashes. This is a large sport in the U.S. Years ago a man who worked for Texaco told me that the best money they spent on advertisement was NASCAR. I saw an instruction sheet for these kind of races years ago - it read go straight, turn left, repeat. Oh for the record NASCAR these days has road courses. I hope you two enjoyed yourselves. Take care!
My father and uncles raced go karts and then later my father and brother raced on a local dirt track. I raced a quarter midget and drove my fathers' half midget once. You can search for what these vehicles look like on the internet. My brother is more of a fan of Nascar than I am and my father was too. I like dirt race tracks, especially Sprint cars.
Glad you learned about the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Cars used to be near street stock. Charlotte is still the epicenter of teams and fans but tracks mostly oval tracks, are all over the US. PS you can drive a real stock cars at some tracks, like Charlotte Motor Speedway. Or just get a ride along for $99. 180 mph < 1 meter from the walls! My favorite driver was Richard Petty who raced 1960s-80s. He was the guy with the big hat you picked early on.
Many little kids in the U.S. love race cars due to the Disney film, "Cars." Do you remember the red car called, Lightning McQueen? Our little guy loved all the Cars characters.
Hi!!! North Carolina girl here. I have a cousin who actually attended and graduated from the "Nascar School ". Yes, there is an actual school. It is located in a northern state. I am sure which state bc it is in. He now owns a Motorsports business. He builds & drives his own cars. He prefers drag strips which is a short, fast race down a straight track. Also, my father used to boot leg moonshine. Which lead to him racing on local dirt track. He built a car when I was pregnant with my son. I asked him to let me drive it (which was a running joke between us bc he said I wasn't allowed to race bc I was too competitive and would kill myself trying to win). He told me that I could if I could get through the window into the driver's seat. I did get into the driver's seat, but he refused to let me drive. Lol.
NASCAR got it's start basically because of moonshiners who would race from the mountains of the Carolinas and Virginia taking illegal moonshine to their destinations. They actually used to race on the beach at Daytona Beach, Fla. back in the 40's and 50's before they built these tracks that they run on.
Greatest spectacle in the United States/North America. The greatest spectacle in racing in Europe and probably on the world level is the Monaco Grand Prix.
A little something to know we don't paint our cars usually they normally are wraps literally giant stickers that we just can cover the entire car if you have up to four people that know what they're doing it also decreases the amount of rolling resistance or weight on the car
Lol, I'd love to see these two take a ride along, then come revisit the "athlete" comments. Having done a ride-along and actually driving one (12 laps) you need a pretty high fitness level to subject your body to the heat and g-forces and the physicality of dricing these cars that don't have all the driving aids that F1 and Indy cars have.
i have been following, the petty racing team, since Richard Petty's dad who's also named Richard was driving. their car is number 7 and its sponsor is tide laundry detergent.

It's too bad you couldn't do the same about Jeff. So yeah i laid into your favorite driver. Hearing the truth about ole #3 sounds like whining to his fans, it isn't. Never met any Gordon fans? That's too bad, you missed out on a lot of high class people. 🤫
@@DSWilkes 😂😂😂 Have a good night!
The movie to watch is "The Last American Hero" its a docudrama about Junior Johnson a prestigious owner/driver.
I work on the NASCAR Hof when it was under construction. Real cool job to work on.
Just imagining Joel and Lia at a NASCAR event just makes me chuckle inside.
This was simply fun. Nice upload!
NASCAR originated in my hometown of North Wilkesboro, NC, just an hour north of Charlotte. So glad you guys had fun at the Hall of Fame!
"More cars, would you believe?" 🤣😂🤣 Dead.
Joel.. you really need to expand your horizons a bit! Lol
Great video, Lia driving with her pinky out…hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
1:57 "Pic or it never happened" Lia un-ironically using 2007 4chan memes in real life. lol
Gotta be a very specific type of fit for racing. Super hot temps, constant sweating and extreme mental endurance.
Australia! 😂 😂 😂
Also, seriously! Y'all didn't recognize Lightning McQueen from Cars???
Came here to say this! 😂🤦♀️😂🤦♀️😂
My son could not get enough of the Cars movies. I appreciated the many ways in which they made the movies watchable for adults ❤️💐💐
@@goosebump801 truly. I was lucky that my son was old enough not to want to watch it 17 times (I can quote Lion King 1 1/2 and The Iron Giant by heart, however...🤔🤣)
There is a current woman driver in the Truck Series named Hailie Deegan, and does vlogs about her day at the track from pre race to practice to qualifying to the race and then to post roace....her channel is her name if you are interested to see the behind the scenes
Hey guys I’m from Corpus Christi surrounding area and happily stumbled across your videos. I have to say…i absolutely love y’all! And yes in TX we say “ya’ll” but it is refreshing to watch the two of you. And enjoyed your TX series of coarse I’ve been binging and can’t not wait to the next videos
I used to work for graco/rubbermaid. They sponsored kurt bush and one of his cars was at the plant. I was the only one who loved when the crew started it up.
You really kept it interesting in this video. Fun to watch.
Thanks so much Joy!
I love your willingness to learn about things you couldn't really care less about. 😆 A lot of times tho things turn out to be a lot more interesting than we expect so I'm glad you try it out for us. 🙏
That was Lightning McQueen from the Pixar movie "Cars"
Australia. 😂😂😂
I grew up with my Dad watching NASCAR races. I like to see how fast the pit-stop crew works on the car.
Since you asked…I do have my own tools, but I’m not drawn to NASCAR at all! Too loud for me 😂 Love you guys, though 🥰
Having fun is cool, but learning and experiencing places and things much of your fellow countrymen would never have had the opportunity to, is a fabulous way to give a little taste of the bigger world that's out there to them.
Please visit Ken Ham's Creation Museum and Ark Encounter.
Love how Lia mistook Lighning McQueen for Herbie. Everybody loves the Love Bug!
Take care!
I was born in Martinsville VA, home of the NASCAR speedway. At 74 I can say I've never been to a race.
Love seeing you guys on this side of the pond 🙂
This was one of the most hilarious videos you have put out.
Thank you! 😂
Just coming across yalls channel, so glad that I did love yalls personality deff gotta new subscriber
Many little kids in the U.S. love race cars due to the Disney film, "Cars." Do you remember the red car called, Lightning McQueen? Our little guy loved all the Cars characters.
I met Richard Petty once by chance. I was in Texas touring the Alamo and he happened to also be touring the Alamo.
Lol.
I think top-fuel dragsters would blow their minds.
Our australian royals lol
NASCAR got it's start basically because of moonshiners who would race from the mountains of the Carolinas and Virginia taking illegal moonshine to their destinations. They actually used to race on the beach at Daytona Beach, Fla. back in the 40's and 50's before they built these tracks that they run on.
Now, to come up here to Indianapolis on Memorial Day weekend, and attend the Greatest Spectacle in Racing!
Omg i just went there not too long ago! So cool that guys went!
I was a fan of NASCAR as a child, lost interest, but regained interest after going to a race at Daytona. The power and speed just drew me.
Days of Thunder is an important film about NASCAR. Starred Tom Cruise and Nichole Kidman.
Y'all should go watch a race in person. It's amazing!!
I love seeing your new videos. I get so happy when there is a new one!
Being fit is key to performing at your peak the entire race. It is extremely hot in the car and you are pulling g's for 2-4 hours every race.
What’s interesting about watching cars go around in circles is watching them try to be keep from crashing into each other.
