This game was just too damn much as a kid. I never got passed that speeder bike level with the ball pits and obstacles appearing when you're going 300 mph.
I could never get past the speed racer level around the 15 minute mark, and always assumed I was terrible at it, but quite pleased to know that the entire game is only half an hour long and I actually made it half way through!
my man..... this game is an easier version of the nes version. This version only has level 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, and 10 of the nes version , and they are remixed. (for example, no boss at the end of level 11)
As someone who has finished Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden (NES), Ghosts and Goblins, ESWAT, Thunder Force 3, MegaMan & Bass, MegaMan 4, Bionic Commando and Contra... *I say you're absolutely right!* I couldn't pass level 5 in this game
Well, if nothing else, at least they started what the arcade finished in regards to making the 'Toads look and fight in a VERY distinct fashion from each other. And the one level in the arcade where you didn't punch things let you shoot MANY things. I don't care how obvious it was that they had to pack in that game's development early, that's a damn fine closer if I ever played one.
getting to and past the tunnel was pretty easy for me as a kid. the snake and the saw part was where i mostly got stuck. I did beat the game finally using save states though lmfao.
the most impressive playthrough i have ever seen! no matter what you think about it. it is a hard game in my opinion. it does take a lot of skill. respect.
I actually got to the chainsaw level with a friend on real snes hardware lol. The only reason we couldnt progress we later found out was because one of the snes controllers forward motion on the dpad did not work properly, so one of us would always get sliced in half. Eventually borrowed his game cartridge & beat it. No small satisfaction.
Great memories watching this Battletoads in battlemaniacs video, I remember not getting bored playing this game over and over again .. by the way you can get extra lives at the second stage by hitting the wasps

OMG, the memories. I remember, this game was actually THE HARDEST Battletoads I ever played. This is coz the margin of error is smaller. And... that dark queen... If a SNES game needed an ESRB rating, it's perhaps this one with her looking so... attractive!
Interesting to see how much things in this game are based on the NES version. There's Clinger Winger, Rat Race, Karnath's Lair... Shame there's no Revolution, I think a 16 bit version of a rotating tower could look really cool! See Mickey Mania for example of how that might've looked like.
It's a shame this game is so bloody hard. I remember playing this as a kid with my dad but he'd be be dead by the 3rd level lol. I think I only made it to the 5th one a few times... played it recently on the raspberry pi and jeez, I feel the blood pressure rising haha, nearly broke a controller on the 3rd level I was so wound up after getting there, saving state and dying God knows how many times. I can see why the old man used to get so angry. Best to just watch the pros. Anyway thanks to anyone who read that, I'm sure plenty have similar memories!
I saw the third Battletoad running with the other two and boarding their helicopter in the cinematic when they were pursuing Silas Volkmire at 30:56 but I agree nonetheless.
Wednesday, February 21, 2024 This glorious gem has dropped on Switch. And this game is beyond perfection like the NES original and their crossover with Bimmy & Jimmy.
@Lord of the Roars is that the buzzsaw rollercoaster like level? You have to press the pad in the direction you want Pimple or Rash to go faster e.g. if he is going right, press right. It's a battle to keep up with the ever-changing stages of the level though!
@@arte0021 It's much shorter is the big one. The bosses are easier too. However, it's way easier to rack up lives in the original NES game. This lets you repeat hard parts a lot more if you're playing on real hardware. Emulated with save states to practice, I'd judge Battlemaniacs as easier overall, but on real hardware I'm not so sure. Also, I do think Turbo Tunnels is easier in the original (even though it's longer), which I know is a wall for a lot of people.
This game was one of the few that managed to deplete my patience. I played it on the SNES more than 20 years ago and after grinding it for a long time, I could beat it. The worst stage was the snake pit by far, especially the ice part. The next stage was also a barrier, but most of the time the snake pit was the one that left me with little to no lives for the rest of the game. The good thing is that the soundtrack is a banger.
Everything up to the point where you ride a vehicle into walls is the best part of the game. I wish they kept that "smash everything that lives" formula and didn't have any of the pure difficulty sections.

God the original for the NES was so hard, the snakes, the unicycle, i don’t think I was ever able to beat it with a friend. Those jet carts where u have to jump over the concrete barriers or the snakes, I never saw 2 people good enough in a sitting to do it. Usually it was one person who died once & the other guy died 22 times
I remember playing this game when I was a boy and for the life of me I couldnt figure out how to pass mark 16:07!! It was extremely frustrating :/ And now I see that there was a hidden ramp on the floor. :O
Lol, my boy brain couldn't figure that part out either, had to wait till I grew an adult brain. I kind of thought there might be a hidden jump by that grey rock, but the timing is very tricky, it helps to press jump multiple times in a row.
Ah. Back in the days before guide videos on RUclips. Where, if you got stuck on a confusing part in a game, you just didn't finish that game. Fuck, now I feel old.
I totally forgot about this game. Me and brother would play this for hours trying to beat this game. I just realized after watching this vid we never got past the air scooter part. The last time we turned it off we didn’t know it would be our last time playing it 😞☹️ I wonder what else came along in my life that became more important and furthered me away from my child hood.

I think I actually got up to the third snake level and that was it. Honestly, as a kid, the amount of memorization you had to do to pass that freaking speed level is crazy, then the snakes too… my god. Grats to those who were able to complete this game.
Guys. It's incredible. I still went through the war toads on the NES without losing lives, it was very, well, very difficult ... Several months of training
This game is ridiculous hard for normal kid. I was 7yr when I played this on SNES. Spending hours of free time to make it pass the racing bike round. After I finished this game, the other kid even ask me "Are you really human?" 😂
I rented this and was blown away by the 1st level. After that it's pretty much obstacle course after obstacle course. I suck ass at stuff like that and I think I actually ended up taking it back a few days early.
I can't believe this was Rare right before Donkey Kong Country. So unrecognizable. I mean, if you observe closely you can see it here and there. Like the green wire frames which was used in the Rareware Logo sequence. The Exit signs. The "The End?". The eyes popping out at the boss. The bonus life counter. Music at the turbo tunnel has some DKC sounding samples. Etc.
I got really good as a kid playing the NES version (I reached level 11 yet never could get past it), but only got around to play this game as an adult, and boy oh boy, this is much harder than the NES one! I got the game over screen just on level 1, and good thing it happened that way, for the rest of the game looks incredibly difficult! Especially the Clinger Winger and Rat Race levels, that's some batshit crazy stuff right there!
I hope someone could find the source code of the game. The source code included unused sprite sheet, lots of unused stuff, including a staff roll of who's behind the game (programmer Brendan Gunn, sound composer David Wise, etc.) (this was disabled for the released version, because Rare wished they will prevent employees from being hired by another developer), and many cut songs by David Wise that will soon to be found in the source code. I hope MobyGames will update the credits.
I could never get past that damn speed level. I remember spending hours playing this game only to realize that I only got 15 minutes into it. This Playthrough reveals how short it was...so maybe the developers thought, well if we make it nearly impossible to beat...
Como me encantaba este juego, me parecían super graciosas las animaciones de golpes y satisfactorio golpear a los enemigos, lo jugaba con mi hermano mayor y por mi culpa perdiamos jaja tenía 6 años.
Hard to believe that today’s console and pc games have Hollywood style blockbuster graphics and Hollywood style voice acting with Dolby Atmos! Voice acting for games like this back then(even though this game has absolutely no voice acting whatsoever) was known as “Digitized Speech”! We are so spoiled these days with graphics and audio!
Great game i loved playing it back in the 90s I never beat it though but still love it the soundtrack to this game is amazing that snake board looks crazy hard

Si creciste con esto tienes buen gusto musical
amazing soundtrack
nice gameplay
thank you!
Great soundtrack.
Toadally awesome dood!
Never make the bikes level extremely difficult
one of my favourite game wow finally i ve found it
I hope someone could find the source code of the game.
"Rare wished to prevent employees from being hired by another developer"
WTF! That's evil!
this game very hard co op gameplay, me and my co op partner always blame other when game over :D, good memory back then
I could never get past that damn speed level. I remember spending hours playing this game only to realize that I only got 15 minutes into it. This Playthrough reveals how short it was...so maybe the developers thought, well if we make it nearly impossible to beat...
The whole game is only 32 minutes...lol memories
