My home town. I was born in Glendale in 1958 and this film is my childhood memories of that wonderful city. I was there last week on business, my God, how it has changed. So sad.
You can go back.....if only for a day or two. Turn off your cell phone, don't look at a TV, smile at strangers, eat at home, hang out with family at a park. fly a kite, play cards with friends, not video games, avoid talk radio, visit your grandparents, walk to the market, make cookies with the kids, hand write a letter to someone you love and mail it , don't say "f**k" all day long, and go to bed by 10. Don't rush!!, DavePaul
i live in canada but glendale was my 2nd home and happy place first visited in oct 62. my aunt and uncle lived on sycamore ave and when i was older i could walk up to brand park. it would have been so cool had you filmed driving up thru the old neighbourhood
In the1990's I lived on Allen Avenue, just a few blocks from the Brand Library, and I used to ride my bike up there quite often. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. The next time I am down in LA, I think I would like to see it again.
I used to go to Finley's hobby shop up on Brand across from the Glendale Federal Bank and Roxy theater. Other theaters on Brand were The Alex theater, the Glendale, the Capital, and the Sands. I watched them build the Galleria. Used to live across from the future location of the new main fire station on Oak Street. Man, I'm old
Great video David. Thanks for taking time to film and post it. I grew up in Southern California in the 50s thru the 60s and love seeing and reliving those days thru videos. What a wonderful time it was.
Wow, thank you for posting I’m trying to find. more of these, it’s the only way to time travel, I remember brand park since 96’ until now. & so much looks the same & old at the same time it’s amazing I love history & seeing things that have changed or remain the same, nostalgia.
I grew up down the street on Sunset Canyon Dr. In the 60s and 70s and spent a lot of time at Brand Park. Later I got married at the fountain in front of the library.
Haha Did you notice there were very few, if any traffic signals on Brand Blvd? Looks like mostly stop signs at each major cross street. Boy, times have certainly changed.
As great as this video is, it would have been even better with some background narration saying who was who, what was what, where was where... that sort of thing... fantastic that it's in color!
@Captain Deci Your question prompted my review of my grandfather's memoirs, but unfortunately they end near the point he became an employee of Brand's. Given the character of Brand and my grandfather, how he became Brand's chauffeur, and their long standing relationship, I would give the story some credence. The last of his living children (my Aunt Esta) will be visiting my sister Wednesday. She is 101 but sharp as a tack. She might have a recollection that might shed some light on your question, so I will direct your question to my sister to ask her. Aunt Esta was raised on the Brand estate (along with mom and my now deceased aunts and uncle) so she is the last contemporary source. David
@Jacob Glenman All areas near LA are expensive. One of the reasons why Glendale is also very expensive is because it is very safe compared to other cities in LA county.
Fluky Review You're making it sound like it's a bad thing... I mean shit, I've never been to Glendale, so I don't know what life is like there, and I'm not sure why Armenians have such a bad reputation in Glendale either. But the Armenians I've met aren't all that bad... Some do have an egotistical problem... but the average Armenian is fine.
@@gameexpert2011 People love to point out the bad things and judge a whole group same goes every group of people, you'll hear people say something. I've lived there and its a beautiful city. Great people and low crime. Ranked one of the safest mid size cities in America. Love the communityfeeling I get when I visit. It is an immigrant city for the most part mainly Armenian/Hispanic and for the most part they stick to eachothers groups. Although it has changed alot since I moved out.

I want to travel back in time to experience Glendale back then!
I was born in Glendale in 1963, and grew up in neighboring Eagle Rock. It’s so interesting to see this old footage.
Eagle Rock is Ghetto. Glendale is way better
The Broadway/Brand footage is just priceless. Love seeing the old B of A building, Johnson's Bakery, Webb's, Newberry's...thank you for this treasure.
I got my first car loan in that Security Pacific 1st National bank bldg. on the N/E corner Brand/Broadway.
Now, it's a Men's Wearhouse.
My aunt Doney worked at Webb's for many years, was probably in that building when this was filmed.
Oh how i wish I could time travel & go back & see & feel what life was like back then.

Hello from the far north, I'm Daniel Pomeroy, son of Marvin Pomeroy, grandson of Clarke Pomeroy brother of Fletcher

Miss the old Glendale.
Thank you for posting ...Viewed this 6 yrs later ... noticed the 'Temple' theater, where, at the time, we saw 3 'b movies' for only 15 cents !!
I used to live in Glendale. I always liked how the Brand Library looked with its india style architecture. I liked the fountain, too.

I worked as a dental assistant at Stuart and Morris in 74

Arthur Murray. "Walk in -- dance out!"
dance studios pretty much dried up by the end of the 80s. free style of the 60s to 70s turned people away from paying for lessons.
@2:15 is where 85° Bakery is now yes? California and Brand?
Brand St. (1963) is barely recognizable from 2022.
And not for the better either!!!😏😒😔
WAS nice is the operative word here.
Still is

How tf did I end up on this video
There is no Burbank in this; it’s all Glendale.
Wes, point well taken!! I will correct the title. I'm sure Mom or Grandfather would have corrected me as they lived on the Brand estate. in Glendale!!

Its all messed up now! Glendale 2021 Sucks!
Look at all the uncs in the comment section 😂💀
This was Glendale, CA before the Armenians took over it... LOL!
I'm Armenian, but i totally agree! I wish it still looked like this!

Armenians came and flipped it over for the better. There was nothing in Glendale before we came here. Don’t be a hater.
