There is a reverse cable labeled which 12v positive its only active once reverse is selected. The way you have it wired to acc. The camera is always switched on. Even when not in reverse
Is this the red cable which is coming off the yellow reverse cable? Ive wired it to ACC but should've done to the one labeled "Reverse"? This may explain why the camera lights stay on as soon as the car is turned on! Thank you so much
This is helpful. If I understand correctly, this means the purple/white reverse wire from the stereo provides power in the exact same way the reverse lights do. So a person can use the red wire on the yellow long cable for power to the camera and then ground the black wire from the DC 12V connection from the camera. If I understand correctly, then I don't get why the manufacturer would recommend both connecting that red wire to the purple/white reverse from the stereo while also wiring the DC 12V from the camera to the reverse lights? Seems redundant unless the power from the purple/white reverse is insufficient for some reason. Thanks!
Nice install. Did mine today. That earth lead though at 06:55 you talk about is actually meant to go to the camera... In your case it wasn't needed for anything as you earthed the camera in the boot.
Just seen your channel - I have a RC nitro car too that hasn't been started in years - your videos will deffo come in handy when trying to get that all fixed up 🔥😂
Thank you so much for uploading this, been looking at getting a digital rear view mirror with rear/front car cams & was worried how to get to the number plate light. 🤝
Shoving the head unit back into place is impossible if you try to place all that extra cabling behind the head unit (believe me I tried for hours). The key is to unplug the complete wiring harness from the back of the head unit. Then grab the block where the original wiring harness connects to the connects2 wiring adapter, also grab the connects2 module and tuck them both into the space that's behind and above the space for the head unit. There's a space on the left but that is too small, use the space at the back and above the head unit space. This way most of the wiring is tucked up out way and not directly behind the head unit. Then all you have to do is reconnect the wiring harness to the back of the head unit, this can be slightly tricky as you now have less slack in the cable.
Hahah that makes two of us. Spent hours on end trying it. Unplugging it seems like a good idea, and wouldve saved a lot of time. I ended up feeding the wires into the space on the top and side and pushing it - ended up with a few cuts but made it eventually 😂
Ive been trying this for over a hour and half now so going to try your method tomorrow morning 👍🏻😂 my cable wasnt a connects2 and seems the fabric tape is shaping it impossible to push up above so I'll probably try untaping it and shoving it all in the top space 😂
This was extremely helpful thanks - I'm about to do the exact same thing to my Golf. One question - when putting into reverse I noticed that you had the parking sensor overlay, but then the display changed to cutting off some of the rear camera view, with the parking sensors on the left. Can you have by default the screen with the full view camera and parking sensor overlay (not cutting off some of the rear camera view)?
You’re very welcome! Yes I noticed the second time I tried it, you get the full screen with the overlay ontop with no borders cutting it off! I think it was because it was the first time
It's being caused by the IR sensor strip along the bottom of the infotainment unit. As you moved the camera closer, it thought it detected a finger and switched to showing the option buttons. Move away from it and it will switch to the transparent overlay 👍
Alhamdulillah bro smashed it with this video definitely going to get this done. A few questions: 1. Can the coding element be done with OBD11 or do I need VCDS? 2. Did your motor come installed with the DynAudio or was it retrofitted?
Thank you bro! Appreciate the kind words! 1. It can! As long as you've got the pro version to allow for long coding it should be perfect. 2. It came with dynaudio but ive heard you can get that retrofitted too!
Im trying to install a camera too but im not sure if it can work with my orignal screen system since i domt have gps in it... do you have gps in your entertament screen? thanks
Thank you! So it actually is in colour, it was just when it was close up against the garage it looked black and white to me. Of course the camera quality does make a difference too so a better quality one should be abit better!
Hey I installed my aftermarket camera to my golf 7.5 I have it coded it in and everything and the boot release works but the camera isn’t working? Do u know what it might be there is connection there was a blue wire labelled light do u know what that means
Whats the part number of your main control unit? (the cd from thing that was taken out) mine was 5G0035819A and that unit does not support reverse camera.
I installed mine,(HD camera), activate the rear camera on VCDS also, but i can´t get the video image on the factory 5.8" screen if i conect it to another monitor it works fine, just not in the one in the car. I get the options to change luminosity , increase coilor, but no picture, i wonder if the 5.8" screen isn´t compatible with the 720p from the camera...
Thank you! Im not sure of your exact model but check this link out: connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CAM-VW7-AD This is the unit that allows it to connect to your head unit, so if that is compatible then it should work!
Thanks for the comment! The VCDS cable is from: www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/ However it may be pricey if you will only be using it for that one thing. Maybe ask around on forums to see if anyone local to you has one that they could code it for you? Could also try emailing OBD11 and see if you can code it using that as it will work out cheaper
