  • 92%ers we are back with a special guest episode of New Heights presented by our friends at Experian and the all-new Experian Debit Card and Digital checking account!
    In this episode, we’re joined by Jason’s teammate, Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata to talk about the new Eagles Christmas album and the guys also revisit a not-dumb question about rugby players in the NFL.
    Jordan shares more about his path from Rugby League to the NFL, including his first exposure to the NFL, how he chose his position, how NFL scouts found him, and where he first started training to play football.
    Travis and Jason then ask Jordan about the lead-up to his NFL Draft experience, how he felt when he was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round, and who he spoke to first within the organization.
    Jordan also talks about the culture shock that happened upon his move from Australia to Philadelphia, his first days with the Eagles, and his “Welcome to the NFL” moment.
    Jason and Jordan get into the 2023 Eagles team, highlighting their roles in the “Brotherly Shove” play and Jordan’s dynamic with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
    Lastly, Jordan gives his Mt. Rushmore of the Greatest Australians of All-Time, Jason tries Australian candy and the guys ask Jordan a series of rapid-fire questions, covering topics like how many toes Jordan has and his time on “The Masked Singer.”
    We will be back on Wednesday to recap our Week 9 games and talk about all the other biggest storylines happening around the league.

    My dad passed away Friday at 81, around the time this came out. I didnt even know until a couple of weeks ago that he listened to the podcast (I didnt know he knew how). He may have been listening when he passed, working around the house. He was a lifelong Chiefs fan and became a fan of New Heights. I know he liked Jaosn alot too. And it gave us something additional to talk about. Thanks guys. Loved this! My nephew here in Australia was invited to a combine and he had no idea what was going on, but they were impressed with his skills / stats. Couldn’t believe he held is ground against others who had been playing the sport for 3+ years..now he’s trying out the sport here! Let’s see where it takes him.

    This episode was so much fun. My face is literally hurting from smiling the whole time.
    BTW, I also identify as an Aussie, well, because I am one, and something really needs to be done to correct that for Jordan. NZ can have its Pavlova, but they will never get our Mailata.
    One other important difference that Jordan should've mentioned was that Rugby League has 6 offensive downs, whereas Rugby Union has an unlimited number of downs. I know that may be hard to comprehend, but that's how it is.
    Edit: So apparently the Australian Prime minister, The Honorable Anthony Albanese, has just stated that Jordans Aussie citizenship will be fast tracked.
    We did it people! Something only made possible with the help of New Heights and the 92%'ers. Is there truly nothing we can't achieve? 😃
    *Having Mr Swift on the podcast is my next suggestion. A little centre on centre verbal shenanigans would be golden. Do it Jason, Make it so. Imagine how much fun that would be.

    • @joek360
      @joek360 7 месяцев назад +4

      Even that description of the differences between rugby league and union isn’t enough. They are completely different sports with big similarities. Breakdowns, set pieces all make a huge difference. 13 rugby league players who generally are broadly a similar build - whereas 15 rugby Union players who have completely different builds 1-15 as a result of scrums(mainly)

    • @EAFSQ9
      @EAFSQ9 7 месяцев назад +1

      Correct, for rugby league - we just call the "downs" tackles, and you only get 6 from receiving the ball from a kick off. The goal is to move the ball down field to the try (end) zone, only passing backwards (no forward passes) to other players, within those 6 tackles. If a penalty is awarded to your team during play, your team will receive another set of tackles, numbered Zero through Five.
