Every new thing that people claim to replace Software Engineers ends up becoming a great tool that makes a SWE's work much more efficient.

yes but that means less and less developers are required to develop the same software,.

@@ilkrsrc081 In the general scheme of things more businesses will be adopting software hence require more SWEs increasing demand.

@@oryankibandi3556Nah bro, you got it wrong when the AI is able to do the work of 2 to 3 people in the group 5 he will. Boss will slash the workforce of the departement and keep only 2 instead of 3 and everything will be AI
The people who are more experienced like 5 to 15 years they are going to find a lot of jobs and good salaries in coming transition which is nearer then thought and there will be no pure "Entry level jobs" until unless you are working on AI or any blockchain stuff

I think truck drivers were supposed to be replaced in 2015 ? A year ago I thought I had a limited amount of time left as a dev, now I just see this for what it really is. LLMs are really impressive, but they are being pushed now by tech bros looking for investments they can cash out on.

    1. It will be fewer developers, but for sure, AI will not replace them
    2. It's too hard to join IT for newcomers now, and it will be more and more complex
    3. I do believe, that we are learning how to use all these tools and we are becoming efficient. So it will not be hard to switch to another job area. I think there are really small number of another job areas, where employers use AI tools so often like engineers became. So don't worry.

First chess program to beat human is from 1950s. The first to beat the best chess player in the world is from 1996 when Deep Blue beats Garry Kasparov. It took 40 years. Now chess engines are way above us humans. For the moment AI is only good to assist you in your job. That's it.

the main effect in the near term is to level the playing field between senior developers and junior people, reducing the premium value of senior developers somewhat.

    • @filiphedman4392
      @filiphedman4392 6 месяцев назад +1

The opposite will happen. Juniors will be completely useless since the ai can do their job almost perfectly. But the Senior can not yet be matched by an ai and is therefore more valuable.

the fact that ai is getting an unexpected error and googling it is really showing us that this is just a joke. AI engineers think all we do is to call some api or db whatever and just display text on the browser. They dont understand there are shit ton of other concerns like security scaling performance bugs that are not shown in the console output or problems that they dont even exist anywhere on the internet and needed to be fixed by a unique solution. Come on ML engineers.

Developers keep saying that they’re not going to be replaced yet the technology that’s going to replace them keeps getting better and better. We are all singing the tune of this is a great tool, not realizing that we are being led to the unemployment line in less than five years.

Actually, coding is not just about coding, but it has more to do with responsibility. AI cannot take responsibility of multi-billion website goes down due to a bug. Developers are accountable for whatever code which is being released to production. I think if company did try to do the cost cutting with AI software engineer, they will eventually hit by a bug like this and they will loose billions by doing this. So, a sane Big Tech company won't try to use AI software engineer in production environment for sure!

  • @andyk2181

My thinking is that "Software Engineer" will stop being a job title in the next 5 years, but that software engineering skills will still be required much like many jobs today want people to be able to use office apps. There will still be jobs for designers, data scientists, engineers (systems, electrical, mechanical), and they will be expected to know how to use AI to generate and work with software.

    Halting Problem enters the chat.
A program can never replace a human. Well, not completely anyway.
Ofcourse alot of our mundane repetitive work can be automated and optimized. This means the humans who were only skilled enough to do those mundane work can get replaced. But that means we need to get better. If you're looking for just pay, then programming is not the career for you. Coders are constant knowledge builders and skill improvers. Constantly changing with the technology and adapt to newer solutions.
As Max here says, we should use them to make our jobs easier and ourselves better quality developers.

Here's the thing, models are built on existing knowledge and then predictions are made thereof, science as far as I know haven't solved about 5% of our universe's mysteries, and tech can't go where the scientific community hasn't been or humans haven't thought of going, so, humans remain the most innovative or "new ideologists" of all time, and that's what Elon musk doesn't get that these things are pretty much productivity tools, you can't do away with people but you can pretty much help them be effective in what they think of and at what they do with their thoughts starting with the most repetitive parts, the boring parts because they've been done millions of times (existing solutions), AI doesn't have thoughts, their thoughts if they've it at all are human thoughts, humans made them after all, AI is a productive tool to engineers, scientists, writers, etc. the way Robotic arm is a productive tool to assembly line workers.

Still waiting for the early access. Seems its using always public or open source github repos. In a real world ppl have private repos protected with ssh, 2nd factor authentication, etc. Can this tool really setup any software and fix any bugs there? Lets see if its not anothet hype to raise funds.
