    I MEANT TO SAY Monopropylene glycol NOT Dipropylene!!!!!! In this essential video for perfume creators, I delve into a critical aspect often overlooked: the type of alcohol used in fragrances. Discover why some perfumer's alcohol, including popular brands like Mistral in the UK, may not be suitable for retail sale or safe for skin application under European law. Drawing on insights from a cosmetic chemist with over 35 years of experience, I highlight the importance of choosing the right alcohol for your perfumes, especially if you plan to sell them.
    In this video, I clarify the role of ingredients like Monopropylene glycol and Isopropyl myristate, explaining their suitability for personal use but not for commercial sale. Learn what to look for in a safer, legal alternative for perfumer's alcohol and ensure your creations meet safety standards.

    • @thenakedperfumer

      It's deemed safe by many I know and for personal use it's okay but my chemist who certifies cosmetics for a living informed that it's not acceptable as a denaturant for alcohol by the European union and they simply won't accept it or deem you product safe for use in the retail market.

    Oh hey there. Thanks for sharing this informative video. Well done. First time ever I decided to use perfumer’s alcohol instead of a carrier oil but this alcohol smells so strong even at the ratio of 30% perfume and 70% alcohol. This alcohol is produced locally here in Melbourne and it’s a bio ethanol at 95% alcohol, 5% water and bitrex as denaturant. It smells strong with the perfume and after few seconds of the spray as well. How to fix this problem? And why these branded perfumes don’t smell alcohol at all? Much appreciated your advice in advance. 🙏🏻

    • @thenakedperfumer
      @thenakedperfumer 3 года назад +3

      You're welcome!
      30% is huge! Try 20% instead then you need to give it time to settle and macerate, don't underestimate this process.
      Then once you smell it give it a few seconds for the alcohol to evaporate and all should be fine, even the best brands have an alcohol smell in the first seconds.
      If that doesn't work find another supplier!

      @@thenakedperfumer thanks for a prompt response. I have tried it firstly with 10%, then with 20% and after still smelling alcohol with the perfume, mixed it at 30 to 70 ratio but the alcohol smell is still there. How long it requires to settle when alcohol doesn’t smell in the perfume you recon?

    • @thenakedperfumer
      @thenakedperfumer 3 года назад +4

      It will always smell when you smell it initially
      Don't smell it from the bottle smell it on a scent strip, let the alcohol evaporate then you should be able to smell the perfume. Otherwise I would rethink who I buy my alcohol from

      You can seek out private label perfume companies. This is something I do if you're in Europe or the GCC countries. Otherwise you might find them in your own country. The first question you need to ask them is what their minimum order quantity is.
      Another option is to get a consultation from me and I can steer you in the right direction which cuts out a lot of time for you when dealing with such companies. My email is mjn@bymelaniejane.com if you want to get in touch.
