I work at a university bookstore. We sell the Zebra mildlners. My customer and I discovered our love of jet pens. Thanks for creating a stationery community. I’m definitely a backpack person.
I've had my large Doughnut Macaroon for a few years now, it's still going strong after various uses and abuses. And (random info) it can happily carry an entire bag of cat litter back from the shop with no problems!
Been using the doughnut macaroon backpack for a good 4 years now! Really held up throughout school and all the times I travelled with it. It's the large series in black. Def worth the investment!
I love how genuinely friendly your videos always are, and how you guys always give your reviews and recommendations from what feels like a friend to friend standpoint rather than a seller to customer standpoint
Thanks to Jet Pen’s influence I got me a maroon/black coloured Doughnut Macaroon in medium and it has been the BEST purchase I’ve ever made. I don’t really pack lightly, so having all my gear organised and easily in reach was instrumental. Back sweat is still a thing though 😂
I was a messenger bag person for most of my life, and still am at heart, but god I love the look and colors of the backpacks for doughnut 😭😭 It also depends on what outfit I'm wearing. If I don't want something bulky on my back, then messenger. If I don't want anything obstructing the front of my outfit, then backpack XD
Great review! I adore the stylish colors of the Doughnut Macaroon, but I like the easy accessibility of messenger bags when traveling. I think the water resistance is very important if you might have rain on your commute or for tropical climates where sudden showers can occur during the wet season.
I switched over to Doughnut because I absolutely adore all of its functionality as much as its form. I personally prefer backpacks over messenger bags, but I'm using the Mattanoia right now for work since I don't have to carry my stuff so much
I'm a backpack person. I had a messenger bag in middle school/early high school and it just hurt my shoulders carrying it every day. Plus, the weight distribution made me unsteady on my feet. I also prefer mini backpacks like Loungefly because their styles are great and they're small enough to take anywhere.
I'm a backpack fan all the way. They don't make your shoulders uneven, the look cuter and don't make your hips wider than they already are 😅 I'm also in the short side so messengers always look a bit ridiculous, like I'm carrying a giant travel bag
I used to ALWAYS carry a messenger bag exclusively until I started carrying a laptop everyday. A laptop + cellphone + accessories was too much weight on one side of the body and a strain on the leg. I still love messengers more.
Have you ever thought of covering "Sling Bags" that you can sling over one shoulder and across your chest. It's like a hybrid of a BackPack & a Messenger bag. They're a pretty popular option now.
So glad this video came out. I was undecided between the adorable backpacks and the less structured functionality of the messenger bag. Now I know the messenger bag is for me. Sadly it’s sold out…😢
I prefer the look of a messenger bag, but my shoulders don't love them! I tend to carry heavier things (books and more books), so even if it doesn't look overpacked, my bags are going to be *heavy*. I do a lot better with the weight evenly distributed across both shoulders, especially since I'm on the petite end (5'4"). Doughnut bags are the best! I have four across three different sizes (two regular, one mini, one large). The mini is great for daytripping/hiking, the regular works well for a work/commuter bag, and the large is a perfect underseat airline carry-on. So glad you carry this brand!
Backpacks all day, every day, everywhere! Currently own more than 30 and I am ALWAYS looking for another. Versatile, hands free, secure, etc. Tumi, Briggs & Riley, North Face, Vera Bradley, Victorinox, Eaglecreek, Osprey, Fjallraven…
I used a standard sized, sakura colored Doughnut Macroon in university and it was great. Bought it from you guys too :) Its a good combo of cute and practical since I found it pretty comfy and also a good size to accommodate my needs.
I’m definitely prone to overpacking, lol. Not in the market for a backpack, although the Doughnut’s are soooo cute!!! My 25 yr old backpack from LL Bean has taken a licking and still looks brand new (not cheap to begin with, so people who balk at the price of the Doughnut may want to think about how durable and long lasting it will be!!) I’d also buy a Doughnut product if for no other reason than they are using recycled water bottles for their fabric, so helping reduce the waste those create. I appreciate that in a company! Stephanie…you have me sold on the mini Macaroon…it’s just so cute…I neeeed it. That’s “need” not “want” please note, lol.
@@janevinson-ij8ge This one has been through 5 years of university and 20+ years to tote my stuff to and from work, as well as it always being my airplane carry-on, cause you can stuff it full. Still looks new. Nothing has broken. Anything that spills on it doesn’t soak in, just wipes off like the demo of the Doughnut and the other one. But, it does lack the stylish qualities of the Doughnut! My only concern with the Doughnut as a backpack is the lack of zippers on the smaller outside pockets. For me, that would make those unusable, because things will fall out (based on how I use mine). @Jet Pens I wanted to let you know I appreciate on the website how you have photos of the models (different heights noted) wearing it…as I’m on the short side, pictures like that are really helpful to get an idea of “how big is big.” Great feature, thank you!
@@janevinson-ij8ge I know! I remember paying around $60 back in the day, and thinking that was pricey, but it had all the features I wanted…just took a look at their website, and ones similar to it are now $150+, so, the Doughnut is a bargain to me for a quality product! (I know Jet Pens doesn’t sell junk, and I’ve always heard good things about Doughnut bags.)
Both bags look great! Currently choosing between Doughnut and Nomadic's for my next bag. Would love another video highlighting some of the other Nomadic's bags sold on JetPens.
Always was team Backpack solely because one strap just isn't enough or makers do not give choice for those chusioned, velcroed pads to adjust on your very shoulder to help make the weight bearable. However, I love me a converting/hybrid bag.
Oh wow. This video makes me extra happy with the Doughnut Denver Messenger Bag I purchased from JetPens in 2019. 😮 It's literally the perfect combo of these two bags. Canvas with leather accents, organizer pockets, sturdy hardware, pad for strap. Is the Denver model no longer made?!?
The leather on my Macaroon is getting a bit of a patina, which is looking rather nice. And besides needing to clean it, it's still going strong after a couple of years, and I've been taking it to work. If it weren't for the leather, I'd throw it in a washing machine, but I intend on not ruining the leather.
I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...
I understand this is not a bag review channel, but there are points that can be discarded since the title is "use a backpack or messenger bag", although I'm not sure if you are sponsored by doughnut. you need to focus on what messenger can do, not metanoia can do. Color and sizes? Timbuk2 has more. Stability? Any motorist or cyclist has strap add-on to make it stable. Heavy? Life behind bars has add on that allow you to use both shoulder. Alpaka briefcase can morph (many do). still, great review. was looking for metanoia review. nice bag.
Early in my senior year of high school, my old backpack broke and I decided to get a navy blue Doughnut Macaroon Large. I'm in college now and it's continuing to serve me very well. It can fit everything I need (laptop, notebooks, textbooks, pencil case, lunch, headphones, water bottle, umbrella, etc.), but isn't so big that I feel tempted to stuff it to the brim. I usually use the "phone pocket" for my calculator, 3DS, or other similarly sized items, since I keep my phone in my pants pocket.
The backpacks and messenger bags are great for schools like Middle Schools, High Schools, and Colleges/Universities(plus better than Elementary Schools) for familiarity such as Carryalls, Tote Bags, and Briefcases(better than Satchels). just such for kids and teenagers only in Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom, In the future, I will soon be growing up in my 30s years of age.
I am tempted to get a Standard in Wine (even though it is called "burgundy" when selecting a color to see from the color boxes) and Standard in Charcoal (even though it is called "grey" when selecting a color to see from the color boxes) while they are on sale. Every little bit helps when they are this expensive.
I have a donut macaroon mini, everything about it is great, it doesn't really fit standard size water bottles, and it stains too easily (I wear all black and it rubs off)
Backpacks with heavy English books. You definitely want structure and padding so you don't throw off your gait, or at least carry lightweight stuff in a messenger bag. Fortunately we've progressed digitally where most textbooks can be on tablets, or laptops are supplied to students. I've even seen backpacks with wheels; good if you want to watch your spine health. Those books really did damage on me after high school and college. I'm definitely a backpack person because I need healthy weight distribution. While I don't need all that capacity now, I looked into the Donut macaroon, but the small couldn't fit my tablet and B5 notebook. I had to shop around for a dual backpack messenger bag, one with handles and straps. I think only Asia has these kind. Plus, I found it in black and purple and with a protective sleeve for a tablet XD
I like my Macaroon backpack but the messenger bag would be nice if there were more size options (and it was in stock). I really don't like seeing something I want in one of these videos only to see it's out of stock.
The excitement!!!! I just saw that you guys are carrying Rickshaw Bagworks products :) so excited!!!! Thanks for this video, I'm thinking about getting a backpack :)
Is JetPens thinking about stocking different colors (if possible) for the messenger? I'm usually a backpack person but the ease of mobility of the messenger for public transit or close spaces looks amazing
I recently started commuting and quickly switched from a messenger bag to a backpack when I realized how heavy my laptop weighed on one shoulder. The back sweat is real though haha 😂
If a laptop is too big for the larges padded pocket, what is the biggest screen size that it will hold it not in the pocket? What size do they both hold if they are not in the pockets?
