"Jewish nomad turks?"
Khazars:🌚
I went to look for this when I saw the thumbnail
Isn't that still debated?
2:05 there actually use to exist a Greek indian buddhist empire. After alexander died one of his general settled in India and also had his daughter marry the great indian emperor Chandra Gupta Maurya and got support from him .
Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s what that was referring to, the Khazars were the Nomadic Jewish Turks I believe
@@king_dot yep
@@king_dotyup only know that from ck3
The difference is that was more then one person like entire groups of people ranging in the hundreds to thousands
An African Samurai = Yasuke. Nomadic Jewish Turks = Khazar Khanate.
Ancient Buddhist Greek = Bactria. Mariachi Slavs = maybe it refers to how mariachi becomes popular in Yugoslavia during Cold War. I dunno...

For those who dont know, Yasuke was a Mozambiquan guy who was brought to Japan from the portuguese colony of Mozambique by a portuguese missionary
And also the Netherlands weren't the first country to get to Japan. Portugal "discovered" Japan in 1543

Honestly idk why Ubisoft hasnt just made the protagonist characters avatars/created characters at this point. The MCs have always been (or at least use to be) fictional characters with the historical characters being NPCs. They could avoid most/all of the controversy if they just made this short leap, but personally I do kinda believe they chose Yasuke so everyone would talk about him instead of their terrible pricing practices. The worst part is that you know people are going to get it regardless of price and without seeing any actual gameplay.
This is why before I buy games that aren’t free I watch videos on them I can handle spoilers so I will be fine
That would've been a TERRIBLE decision, Assassin's Creed is not Elder Scrolls.
@@Noctuam734 Why not? All the MCs are fictional.
Controversies are just free advertisement, why would they want to avoid it?
@@autisonm And to make them even more bland than they already are? (The newer ones at least). It's a terrible choice. Imagine if AC Origins didn't had Bayek but instead a voiceless avatar. Bayek is the soul of that game.
It's not that Japanese thought the Americans would never recover, it was meant to just buy them to time.
They had no idea it was going to be so quick
Ubisoft dose not want anyone to buy the $129.99 version of AC shadow, they want people to sign up to Uplay and then forget that they signed up to Uplay.
they actualy want people to buy (and get used to) the 110 version so when they raise the base price to 100, people will think games got cheaper
just buy the base game for 70, that's all. Or if you're not that interested, wait for a sale.
@@vodkavecz or for less then $70, you can get ghost of tsushima.

*”We can never stop the egg inflation”* - idk someone in 2020
fun fact in the 1990's most games cost 90+ dollars (adjusted for inflation).
Politicians love inflation
Fun fact in the 1990's most games were released functional. There was no microtransaction, battle pass or "definitive" editions.
@@Noperare I would not be shocked if there would of been if it wasnt for the fact that microtransactions were not even physically possible yet
@@Noperare Also, Also people just had more spending income back then because the economy wasnt fucked yet.
Charlemagne did basically invade the Papal States. Like the threat wasn't quite as direct, but if the Pope tried fighting Charlemagne it would have gone very poorly for him
The main things about AC shadows for me is that yes we always played as someone "local" for the game and that we never play actual historic people. We always play a completely fictional character and historic figures are characters we interact with.
same thing happened with the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) and RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force), by ww2's end Canada had the 4th Largest Airforce and 3rd Largest Navy
Fun fact about LBJ and Vietnam, he knew from the very beginning that the war was lost, yet his pride and ego wouldn't let him admit it and prevent the next decade of misery and suffering for everyone (especially the Vietnamese civilians.)
And he said he “would have n words voting Democrat for the next 100 years” those are his words not mine. He passed laws to keep them on welfare and dependent on democrats
Putting a black samurai in the sengoku period is quite smart, the obvious backlash will get people talking about the game, and no publicity is bad publicity
Especially since Yasuke was a real person from history in that period.
@@TheNextCubed Yeah, but they bet on the fact that people don't know that or don't care, and it worked
Wrong. The gaming market is saturated with titles right now. And with games being delivered in a "buggy" state, incomplete, or full of PC identity politics, bad publicity is just bad publicity. This is especially true with the current backlash against forced DEI/ESG nonsense in games (a la Blackrock, Vanguard, etc.). There are hundreds of thousands of gamers who are on "high alert" against this nonsense, and with Ubisoft especially, who have a reputation for pulling this kind of thing and then charging gamers with absurd prices. No. This game is done.
The “bad publicity is still publicity” thing is literally just a marketing coping mechanism to justify not getting fired, it doesn’t actually work.
@@SuperDoggy99 "This game is done" he says, about something that conservatives have spent the last two decades getting mad at and claiming will end any day now. Of course now you use terms like "DEI" and "Blackrock" as if you know what they mean or if they have anything to do with game design, but the underlying complaint ("go woke go broke") is literally the same and it shows no sign of stopping.
Samurais were used to firearms since XVI. The Portuguese and the Dutch were there for this. 😂

The thing about this to is that this isn't even the first game Yasuke was in, he was in Samurai Warriors 5 which was released a few years ago well before AC and just flew under the radar since that franchise isn't particularly popular.
That said it is quite ludicrous to even bother putting him in the game, let alone as a titular character given the fact according to what scant documentation exists, he was only in Japan for little over a year and doing very little of note during that time, then the Honnō-ji Incident occurred and he was handed over to Jesuit missionaries and promptly completely disappears from historic record from that point on.
To be frank the only reason we even remotely know about him is solely due to Oda Nobunaga finding him to be a novelty due to his skin color, Nobunaga was apparently quite interested in novelties, hence why he was really the first daimyo to really make great use of firearms introduced by the Portuguese, such as in the case of Battle of Nagashino.
Edit: Also LBJ was a scumbag for a myriad of reasons, Vietnam was not his only Achilles Heel and frankly he is the primary reason none of us Americans can own a Toyota Hilux today without jumping through a ton of legal hoops (seriously look up the Chicken Tax and Proclamation 3564).
Does the fact that only the Dutch were authorized to trade with Japan mean that William Adams said : "kick out the Portugese and all catholics, and don't ever let the Brits in either, I want to be the only one"
He was employed by the dutch.
That whole AC shadows debacle is so close to kill my trust in humanity.
People turning out to be exponentially dumber and over all worse than Ubisoft.

Me first hearing about the AC controversy: What’s the problem? There really was an African samurai, it’s historically accurate.
Me after learning he’s the protagonist: Ohhhh….thats not good.
Why?
@@Samuil-iq6eb Because in every other AC game, the protagonist was from the place the game takes place in. (With the exception of Revelations I think.) In AC The protagonist represents the culture the game takes place in. Yasuke is cool, and is a great additon to the game, maybe even should be a major character, but he shouldn't be the player character. They set a precedent and broke it in a way that was offensive to a lot of gamers in japan that wanted an AC protagonist to finally represent them. Like, if the roles were reversed, a lot of people would be understandably upset.
@@Samuil-iq6eb Don't get me wrong, its not that he's black, its that hes not Japanese. If he were any other race, people would still be upset. (All this is purely in the context of AC, this doesn't apply to other series.) What AC games have done in the past is have diverse range of settings cultures and have a cast of playable characters to represent those cultures. For Ubisoft to tell Japan they won't get a Japanese protagonist in their game, when every other culture got a protagonist from their culture is a huge insult.
@@michaelwells529that is the first reasonable criticism of this decision I've seen of this decision. From my view, it seems Ubisoft wanted to have their cake and eat it too. Because we will have the "fish out of water" that is Yasuke and the native that is Naoe as the alternate protagonist
Was he a retainer and not a Samurai?

I think the main issue with AC is that Yasuke is somehow apart of the assassin brotherhood which doesn’t make sense for a person that was a servant of a priest and then served Oda. If anything he would be a Templar or a simply be a npc you meet due to the fact you never play a historical character in AC games.
The shogun TV show while semi functional is based heavily on Williams actual experiences and doesn’t make him apart of some super secret organisation.
Franc Jožef I. of Austro-Hungary was conscripting volunteers to fight for his brother Maximilian I of Mexico, they got around 6000 men, some of those were Slovene and a few remained and did not return to Europe. These soldiers are known as meksikajnarji in Slovenia.

Tbh with the AC thing. Every single AC protagonist (sans revelations and 4) are the part of the general population of the setting. So why the change now and remove the spotlite from the Japanese protagonist by making the 1/100000 minority a co-protagonist? Also I'd argue this character fits better as an expanded historical side character a la al-mualim or appollodorus rather than playable
And not to mention Revelations and Ac4 had context. With Constantinople being a major trade hub and the Caribbean being infested with pirates, so it wouldn’t be unusual to see a non national.
According to Ubisoft, it's so that we can discover Japan through Yasuke's eyes, like a sort of "fish out of water" situation
@@HoV326 lame reason tbh. We didnt need some random englishman in XVI italy to appreciate it.
Hey can you make a video on a ne country all game, it’s called country balls world connect

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think this scene is from the end of the first Indiana Jones movie 12:35. Though I do find it funny that "chese cave" memes are still floating around 😆
it should be noted that japan only stopped trade with catholic countries, not protestant, because the protestants didn't try to convert everyone. Some japanese still took interest and got bibles from them and converted, but that was their own choice.
