i watched this historical drama for the first time because of JKS. It so happened as I watched each episode I learned to appreciate the plot, how the script is written and of course the acting of the cast. It just amazing as progress watching from the first episode I forgot that I am watching a historical drama but I have this feeling of as if watching what is happening at present time.

jang geun suk is truly a talented actor. i can't believe he is so young yet he displays such maturity in his performance in Hong Gil Dong. the way he portrays changhwi is incredible. his hidden pain, his unrequited love towards yinok, his dilemma in having to choose between his duty & his love.. wow.. he's surely going to be BIG one day.
*sigh* i really hate it that they didn't let changhwi get together with yinok in the end. just look at the way he looks at her. *melts into a pool of goo*

I absolutely love the prince. I think he is soooooo adorable! His 'keep to himself' makes him so interesting! However, there's something about gildong that i also can't get enough of...i don't know what it is but in a way, i'm completely satisfied with yinok's decision.
I think everyone here agrees that with those looks and that voice, it would be a crying shame if he didn't do more dramas. Go JGS!

Geunsuk oppa... please play a role like this one again. Prince ChangWee was cool and complex character. He made me guessing what he'd turn to be from the beginning to the end. I love the subtle change on his face and soulfull's expression in his eyes. Anyway, it will be a long time waiting until you are released from your mandatory service TT

This series is jam-packed with cry-material, i thought i almost cried every third episode (except around 18-20 when every episode was a long melodrama cry thing)

Jang geun suk is still a great actor but he's stopped acting with his eyes now. I watched beethoven virus which he filmed in this age of 21-22 and this video too, both show the beauty of expression through eyes but in his later works like he's beautiful, its more expression on the face than eyes.

I watched this first some years ago (one of my earlier ones) and it started as a comedy and just became more serious ...and then a full on tragedy T_T
I understood why she liked Gil Dong at first, but then over the course of the drama, the love and consistency the prince had for her was touching ...but he never stood a chance, she was always 100% only interested in HGD :( I guess I am glad she was consistent, but it was one of those where it would have been better if she'd been with the other guy. It also would have been a better match and happy ending.
Iljimae is another where the other main guy is so sad and you just feel like it should/could be him. Another sad one ... I love periods but many just turn out sad, I end up rewatching the bits I like. Have found a handful of happy ones, but it's always a risk!
The ending really was sad for this one ... poor guy, and just is alone for the rest of his life without his love... :/
